I really dont understand why there isnt an increased devotion to the Blessed Virgin. Time and again she has proven her "power" as an intercessor for the faithful, yet still people denounce her works as "satanic". Can anyone exactly tell me why some refuse to remove their blinders>

Ummm. Do you seriously expect an answer to that? Mary was called blessed among women ONLY because she was chosen to bear our Lord Jesus Christ. She was a sinful woman who's prayer at finding out she was pregnant was 'I thank you, God my SAVIOR'. Sinless women don't need a Savior. The Bible says there is One mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. That's why people do not participate in the idolatry of worshipping a human instrument that God chose to use to bring Jesus to earth...anymore than they pray to the stone tablets God wrote the Ten Commandments on. Please, study the Bible and see that it is Jesus alone that saves you. Mary would have remained lost in her sins had she not put her trust in God her Savior and His Son whom she considered herself unworthy to bear.

Hello Ave Maria - as this site is non-denominational you will receive many views based on individual beliefs. For us who honour Mary we hold her in a special regard. We know Salvation is the Lord's and it is difficult for Christians who do not come from a Catholic background or upbringing to understand the emphasis placed on Mary and the Saints by the Catholic community.This is not a criticism in any way of their beliefs as I am sure they do not judge us who follow a different doctrine. Our Lord Jesus Christ is our hope and our light , the indisputable King of our hearts. Mary is our mother and having witnessed the working of God through her at Fatima where millions gather to worship the Lord we know how special her place in Heaven is. There are many passages in the Bible that used the vernacular of the time to communicate to the flock. Some expressions are dated but the message remains true.In Catholism Mary is a proven font of love , a willing handmaid saying "Be it done according to Thy Word" who brings people to the Lord. Others may not accept, believe or understand this but for some it helps place them on the road to eternal salvation through the Lord. Despite our differences we are part of a Christian family and like all families we will not always agree with everything we say and do. Ultimately it is our faith in God that prevails.

Let me ask you Maria, why are you concerned about giving Virgin Mary recognition beyond just "Virgin Blessed Mary"? Who saved you? Jesus Christ. Who is GOD? Jesus Christ. Who is Mary? The sinner who GOD chose to carry His Son Jesus Christ while He roamed the earth 2,000 years ago.

Obviously we have some strong feelings in here lol. Actually Chad, the Virgin Mary saved me inasmuch as if it werent for her intervention I wouldnt even be ALIVE. So excuse me if I have an exceptionally strong bond to her. Also, I dont adhere to the "sola scriptura" way of thinking that my non-Catholic Christian brethren do. Also, the Blessed Virgin was conceived and born without the taint of sin, remained pure until and after the birth of Jesus, and died a blessed woman who was immediatly taken up to heaven, body and soul, where she was crowned Queen of the Universe. As Nicholas has already pointed out, the miracles worked at Fatima are a testiment to the "power" given to Mary by our Lord Jesus Christ, who IS her only son and our Savior. Lastly, idolatry is the practice of worshiping idols, or false gods. Mary is not a "false god" because there has never been a claim to her omniscience or omnipresence. Lastly, who did the people go to at the wedding at Cana? It was Mary, and if that isnt proof enough to some of you I dont know what is.

Mary is not GOD, correct. Also, What does the wedding have to do with anything? Jesus Christ is GOD and the ONLY way to the Father in Heaven. Jesus Christ is the ONLY name you can pray to. Period! Obviously you, like many other Christians I know, are so close-minded there's no point in even TRYING to prove nething but indulge me here for a minute. My point regarding the wedding at Cana is people came to Mary, who sent their petitions to Jesus. This is wat we Catholics have belived for the last 2000 years and like it or not, it must be true if it has been preached for that long. In regards to my "sola scriptura" comment, no where, and I mean NO WHERE in the Bible is the existence of DNA mentioned. And yet we know it to exist. Also, in the Bible it describes the sky as being "a firmament in which the stars are stuck, with floodgates that open to allow the waters from the heavens". Obviously this also is untrue, but I hope I dont need to go into detail to explain THAT. My grandfather's grandfather, on his way to America, was in danger of drowning when the ship he was on was caught in a violent storm. Being the devout Catholic he was, he prayed to Mary that if she spared him from the storm, he would build a shrine and dedicate it to her. Obviously he made it to America, and built Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Cheektowaga, NY. It was by the intercession of Mary on his behalf that I sit here writing this post, so dont U go and tell ME that I am the evil one!Chad said:

To me idolitary is putting anything before god, whether it be false gods, or worshipping statues of virgin mary, i was brought up a catholic and went right thru to confirmation, but mary was just a woman who god choose to concieve jesus, if it wasnt her it would be some other woman, if we put any living or non living thing before god, he will be jealous as all the glory goes to him.
My eyes were opened to false docterines of the catholic faith and i truly became a child of god when i accepted jesus as my lord and saviour, who died on the cross, not mary.

Once again Mary is not God and this is a misunderstanding among lots of believers that follow your line of thinking of Mary. I believe in the scripture only and keep praying that the truth be known to all who seek God and his Son Jesus. Amen Ariel. I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school for 13yrs. The only thing I found acceptable was belief that Jesus Christ is Savior. However, the rest speaks for itself and the false doctrine does damage than good.
The Holy Bible is clear to what is right and wrong. There is no excuses, no reason to come up with your own religion.

The devil said that to Jesus, our Jesus Christ. Of course he could not deceive our Savior but the devil has deceived many with his given authority (sin = authority to satan). Kara, the way you hear is what it is. She is blessed for being able to carry Jesus Christ out of her own womb. This has absolutely nothing to do nor assuming she has power to heal or hear prayers. She is blessed for that one single fact that she carried Jesus Christ in her womb.

That verse you just read is about when Christ was at His home town and He wa not very welcomed... His family was there to pick Him up because they were thinking He was a bit crazy... Tell me.. if Mary was so Holy why was she with them trying to get Jesus to stop talking and leave?
