Beauty Pageants

I am writing because since the whole ordeal with Miss California my fiance' and I have been at odds concerning the whole thing.

He said I was over-reacting and it has made me question his integrity as a Christian and how he views women.

I try to view myself as worth more to God than my body parts, but when my 'Christian' fiance' perceives my passion to disable the degradation of women as 'over-reacting', it is disheartening in so many ways.
Am I so out of line in my thinking?

No, your not out of line in your thinking.

Not that it's any of my business Toughy, and neither do you have to divulge any info your not comfortable telling, but..

If you and your fiance are romatically involved with each other to the point where you'd be uncomfortable
with anyone else in the room with you..

..that might explain his reluctant attitude to agree in spirit, to your response.

But no doubt, much of the culture he has grown up in has more to do with his world view, than anything else.

God bless you with wisdom,
Marco

i think it's worldly and the word says to be not conformed to this world but be ya transformed by the renewing of the mind. I'm getting to the point, by the Grace of God, that i find all worldly thing detestible and that's just plain and simple. Just becuase it seem right doesn't mean it is. When i was in the world i thought just like the world and loved watching beauty pageants for the same reasons i loathe them now. i hope this helps

100% agree with you!

but when my 'Christian' fiance' perceives my passion to disable the degradation of women as 'over-reacting' it is disheartening in so many ways.

You seem to have an attitude of condemnation toward your fiancee because he doesn't believe as you want him to believe. That's a recipe for disaster in any relationship. I learned long ago through experience that I cannot force my wife or children or anyone else to think as I do on issues of morality, no matter how Biblically and morally correct my views might be.

I hate them.I totally think they are teaching that your body and looks is what determines your importance in life(favortism against scripture). Absolutely nothing about them is healthy. It teaches intolerance toward people of less appealing features.I have seen some of the most beautiful people in the world filled with arrogance self pride, and self lovers. However on the otherhand some of the most beautiful hearts in the world has had disfiguring flaws. Hollywood has the same mindframe of beauty.

I have told people that have struggled with flaws, self esteem issues, disabilities, and disfiguring features; I love to give them a glance of the Savior to let them know what standards the world judges by is nothing like the Savior. These beautiful people that think the Savior will favor them more because of there outside apperances have totally missed the boat. It's all about Love,Love,Love what the two greatest commandments are based off.

Here's a glance of the Savior:he was not beautiful like the perfect pictures paint him to be. This is refreshing to my soul and my flawed appearance.

(Isaiah 53:2-3)

2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

no form-the body outward appearance
Nor no comeliness-not pleasing in appearance, not attractive,
no beauty-he's not handsome

notice it is not past tense but in the furture
''when we shall see him"

So no I think beauty pagents are a rediculious attempt to parade women infront of judges to pick the best stock that you place a bid.It is no different than parading cows out at an auction to place your bids on the one that looks good. It's cruel and stupid.

Yes Ester was in a beauty pagent that don't make it right. It was a pagan society holding it.Sure God worked it out for good He always does.

I think God actually organized the first beauty contest, which Esther won. But nowadays, it looks like an opportunity to promote lust especially with the way most of these ladies are scantily dressed.

Evil Plain and Simple

Plain and simple beauty pagents are evil. They do not display godly women and they are a temptation to men. We see them on TV and they are marketed to us because SEX SELLS. I don't mean to sound extreme, but lets be honest these pagents as well as so many magazines and tv shows that are thrown at us are soft porn.

I recently read part of a book my husband is doing for a Bible study called Measure of a Man by Gene Getz. There is a chapter in there specifically talking about sexual temptation for men, although I must say it was extremely insightful for me as a wife to read.

These shows are a temptation to men and a sinful example for women.

We as Christians must be careful that we do not try to justify our actions based on what we like to watch.

I John 2:

15:
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16: For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17: And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Turn this evil off!!! Shelter your eyes, shelter your husbands, and please please shelter your children!!!!
