@ Brother-Paul
You mentioned that a person Should pray The Lord's Prayer daily? Praying / talking to God every day -- yes -- but why specifically The Lord's Prayer. Praying should be talking to go from our heart.
Prayer is talking to God, talking to Jesus, who intercedes out prayers.
We the Lord's Prayer?
It is what is in the Lord's Prayer that is important to remember, we can pray those elements daily, but look again at what Jesus said...
Matthew 6:9-15 (NKJV)
9
In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done On earth as
it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Amen.
14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Luke 11:1-4 (NKJV)
1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased,
that one of His disciples said to Him,
"Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples."
2 So He said to them, When you pray, say:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done On earth as
it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
We do not necessarily have to pray the Lord's Prayer daily, bit Jesus was telling us how to pray, or more importantly the things we should pray for regularly of even daily.
Look again...
Our Father in heaven,
(Jesus always points us
to the Father first)
Hallowed be Your name.
(God the Father is Holy
we are to Hallow is Holy Name)
Your kingdom come.
(
God's Kingdom will come, to every born again believer on earth in their life on earth)
Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
(We are to never forget,
God's will, will be done, through every believer, on earth as it is in heaven - Emmanuel, God with us, not just at Christmas)
Give us this day our daily bread.
(We are to ask God to give us our daily bread, daily bread, enough for 24 hours, not to little, not to much, enough daily. What is our Daily Bread? It is enough for the next 24 hours, food, water, clothing, roof over our heads, sanatory requirements, heating, money. But enough for the day, not to little, but never to much, all things are good and nothing rots in the Heavenly)
And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
(Ask for forgiveness daily, through Jesus, as we grow life becomes a pray and some things, especially forgiveness we will in time, as we know, pray the minute we know we have sinned, forgive us our sin, forgive us our debts, forgive us our errors in your sight Lord)
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
(The RCC wants to drop the first half of this plea, it is wrong to drop it, not one dot or tittle will change in The Word, those who do will pay the consequences.
Luke 22:31-32 (NKJV)
And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.
But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren."
How many would pray this if we didn't pray the Lord's Prayer and fully understand every part of it?
Part two of this plea we all ask daily, but do new believers?)
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Amen.
Then we conclude by giving God the Glory, for ever and ever, Give thanks to God through Jesus Christ, for the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory...
Amen, so be it.
Jesus tells us what to pray, He suggests we get the order right, he tells us what to pray for daily, it is a powerful prayer, given to us from our Precious, Loving, Lord and Saviour.
As for me, I do pray it daily, but I vary what I pray daily, without losing its reverence and meaning, but also so that it never gets repetative and always comes from the heart, at all times making sure it gives God the Glory.
I take
Our Father.... I pray also, Father, Gracious Father, Loving Father, Abba father...
Hallowed be thy Name... I pray also, Holy is your Name Father, Holy and Righteous is Your Name, Father I hallow your Holy Name...
Your Kingdom come... I vary as I feel led, thanking God for the Kingdom and that we art part of it...
Yours will be done on earth as it is in heaven... there are lots of ways to Praise God and thank Jesus...
Give us this day our 'Daily Bread'... there are examples above, but we can also thank Him and Praise Him for our 'Daily Bread' in many ways...
Asking forgiveness of sins speaks for itself but we can vary this and share with our Lord how sorry we are, as we would at any other time...
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one...
Both parts are so important, but we can vary as we wish, praying daily not to be led into temptation, praying daily and when ever, for deliverance and for protection from the evil one, his fiery darts, his devious tricks... we can also put on the whole armour of God at this point.
Then boy oh boy haven't we got reason to Rejoice and Give Thanks.
Jesus gave us a pattern for prayer, we don't have to pray it as it is, but we should include all the elements He tells us about, He tells us what to pray for. Including our 'Daily Bread', our 24 hours worth, of the items stated above and others we may think of.
It is not just praying, give us this day our Daily Bread, it is talking in prayer to God, through Jesus, and asking for the essentials for the coming day, or 24 hours depending when we might pray. It also helps us to realise what is important, the next 24 hours, do not worry about tomorrow, tomorrow will have problems of it's own.
Sermons galore can be made from the Lord's Prayer, especially when The Word is expounded, when it is understood as our Lord meant it, and all the elements put into our Daily routines. Things don't have the same appeal if we realise our soul could be called for tonight, if Jesus returns tonight, treasures in heaven are everlasting, Thanks be to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in Jesus Name we pray all He has taught us. Amen.
