Parables about losing your salvation are in the word.

#1
Mat 25:14 For [the kingdom of heaven is] as a man travelling into a far country, [who] called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
Mat 25:15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
Mat 25:16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made [them] other five talents.
Mat 25:17 And likewise he that [had received] two, he also gained other two.
Mat 25:18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
Mat 25:19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
Mat 25:20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
Mat 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, [thou] good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Mat 25:22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
Mat 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Mat 25:24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
Mat 25:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, [there] thou hast [that is] thine.

Mat 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, [Thou] wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
Mat 25:27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and [then] at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

Mat 25:28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give [it] unto him which hath ten talents.
Mat 25:29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
Mat 25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Mat 24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
Mat 24:46 Blessed [is] that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Mat 24:47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
Mat 24:48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
Mat 24:49 And shall begin to smite [his] fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
Mat 24:50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for [him], and in an hour that he is not aware of,
Mat 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint [him] his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Now Hebrews 6: 4 to 8 also speaks of losing your salvation if you turn your back on God (Fall Away) But most saints stop there and don't quote Hebrews 6: 9 to 15
where it gives the backslider more hope if he repents and sees the error of his ways... and then continues in the hope that was given to him from the start.

Heb 6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
Heb 6:10 For God [is] not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
Heb 6:11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
Heb 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Heb 6:13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
Heb 6:14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
Heb 6:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

Hope that helped

God bless

Hello,

I was reading from Luke last night and found something in the parable of the sower that *seems* to support the *possiblity* of a person turning away from salvation.

5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.

6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?

10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.

11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Verse 13 is the one the caught my attention since it mentions some who believe for awhile and then fall away. Taking this into consideration with the Hebrews 6 verses from earlier in the thread, I can't help but feel it backs up the concept of someone "falling away" from salvation. It's definitely an area I want to devote more time to understanding.

Love in Christ,

Dave

::nods:: yeah, I believe an important thing for something to realize is if they believe in their sins. Do they believe that they are sinners? Where do they wanna go after they die? Questions like that.

It happened to me, It felt worse than ever. A born again sinner. I believed I was a sinner, because I had been born again, I couldnt deny the power of God. Like other sinners can. I felt I was dead the moment I went back to sin.

I turned back to Christ he was there for me with his loving arms

Hope this helps with your study.

if salvation was able to be lost, what would be the reason for attaining it in the first place anyway. I'm thinkin like a heathen here and it would seem a little absurd in my mind (think like a heathen) as to what would be in it for me if i was just going to lose it later on anyway.

I believe that salvation is eternal, that no one or nothing can take it away from you. If a person falls to sin, that will not change the fact that they will go to heaven....they will just have to give account as to why they chose to sin.

I also seem to think that you can willingly give up your salvation....by blaspheming (denying, rejecting by choice) God....by unbelieving all that He has done for you.that'll send you to hell i think...rejecting your very salvation. AND God will let us think that because He is a gentleman and not force Himself upon us.

just my opinion...

I was saved in 1967. I believe I have been saved this whole time, but I do believe it is possible to become lost again, if I chose to turn from God. I chose to stay with God.
There are many people who believe each way on this issue.
I believe the Bible supports the fact that we may become lost again, as Scripture quoted before has shown. Alaso there is some in the Old Testament that points to that. I do not have my Bible or concordance here at work with me to research it.
I also do not believe that when we become a Christian that we are still a sinner. God says to stop sinning.
He does not merely "cover" our sins with the blood of Jesus, either. He washes the sins away.... gone!
but if we sin again, those sins must be repented of & washed away, too. If we sin and do not repent, and continue to not repent, we are throwing our sins in the face of God and trampling on the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. If we do not repent, then there is not forgiveness.

Just my opinion...

I see salvation simply as an offered gift - you can either take it or leave it :present:
Some people take it and keep it - others take it, but later don't want it and give it back. But the gift will always be there waiting for them to return. God will never take His offered gift away from us. If they chose to turn around and decide they want it back it will be there waiting for them to receive it again!

Hey, I think that believing in Jesus is not enough for salvation. Satan believes in Jesus and he is certainly not saved. I think that believing really means alot more. Some of the meaning has been lost in translation. If we read other verses we find reference to obeying and following. I think it all goes together believe, repent, obey, follow. All of these are important.
