Christians with mental illness: hope

Why don't you celebrate Christmas ? This might have already come up -- but don't recall. (we seem to have something in common) :)

There is nothing in the bible about Jesus celebrating His birthday. And of course all the other stuff people throw at you about the pagan celebrations co-opted by the Christians. Let's not get into that stuff. LOL Let's stay friends

Everyone I've been around since growing up have celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ. / We're told about the birth of Jesus Christ in Matthew 1 -- The book starts out with the geneology of Jesus Christ , the Son of David , the Son of Abraham vs 19 - "now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: and then vs 21 -23 /// Luke 1 and John 1:14 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us., etc.

Christmas is my favorite time of year -- the carols being sung "Oh Holy Night" by far the favorite. All the Christmas carols in the hymnal are centered around His birth . Resurrection Sunday goes hand and hand with Christmas. Ya don't have one without the other.

God gave us all that info About the birth of Jesus Christ for a reason. To celebrate it.

Just like anyone's birthday is celebrated. Parents celebrate their children turning 1 yr old, etc. and all those years after that. Friends recognize friends's birthdays.

And it doesn't really matter that we don't have the exact day Of His birthday -- or that for whatever reason , the date we have now was close to the same time as a pagan celebration.

But I've Also noticed that lots of people go to church Only at Christmas time / Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday) as their part of being Christian.

The fact of the virgin birth / virgin conception by the Holy Spirit. Without That, we don't Have a / the Savior.

Christmas can be as religious or as commercial as a person wants it to be.

Actually -- No one 'throws' any thing at me about pagan celebrations. No one I know -- church people -- brings any of that stuff up. We all celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Friendship is Always nice. :)

Sue....If that's the way you feel about Christmas, then what you should do is to celebrate it with all your heart...As Christians like to say.."Jesus is the reason for the season" Just keep Him at the center of it. Agreed?

Well -- I don't celebrate birthdays/ anniversaries every day of the year -- just the one day it took place.

ARe you by chance Jewish?

My family is Jewish a loooong way back, During the diaspora they migrated to France, then about four hundred years ago some moved to what would become Canada...So, am I Jewish?..No though I would be proud to be.

Well -- the Jewish people are the one's who rejected the Christ child as being the Promised Messiah. Jesus Christ was born into the Jewish people / culture.

I've also learned that there are Jews by nationality And those who are Jews of Jewish faith. Messianic Jews = those who Do accept Jesus Christ as their promised Messiah in contrast to Jews who do Not accept Him as Messiah.

LOL Well, I know that I know that I know that Jesus is the promised messiah. Jews can be fools just as much as any other people.

So -- what do you mean when you say that you're not a Jew but would be proud to be one. Just curious. Is it because the Children of Israel are God's chosen people. And the tribe of Judah is the line through which Jesus was born. Jacob was renamed Israel and his twelve sons became the 12 tribes / the Children of Israel. And all of That started in the book of Genesis 12 when the Lord God called Abram to leave his family land and go to the land that he would be shown. Got side-tracked into some history.

I'm having a time tonight. time to get off of here. God needed a people to act as a doorway for a physical body to enter the Earth. The Jews provided that door. You read in the Old Covenant how God actually brought about the existence of the Jews. The Jews, an obscure people, small in number were the perfect representatives for Him.

1 Corinthians 1:26-29 King James Version (KJV)
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

The Jews were to be the first of His peoples and as you see, they were/ are.

So yes, I would be proud to be a Jew. But still not for that reason...They are a good people, they are a very strong people, and they are a smart people. Do you know that of all the peoples driven off their lands the Jes are the onliest people in the history of man to retain their own culture? They were driven out of their lands almost two thousand years ago, yet they have the same culture today as they had then. No other peoples can say that.
