Church of The West

I personally prefer neither east nor west and to allude to the temple doors etc as a previous post did, I prefer to be in the temple, neither east nor west nor south nor north, but in the heart of it with Jesus my Lord.

How about you?

Well, we do have to enter in through the correct door, or we are not really in the temple, but just have the appearance of such. But, yes, then in the temple, the body of Christ, is where we need to be, with Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen! I'm in!

Thought it was constantinople (named after constantine?) that was the centre, east and west split, one was greek, the other latin, at least thats how I understand it. They argued over something called the filolique and there was some ruckus over icons.
One put in a pope (who was like the emperor) and the other governed by bishops. The vatican is actually its own state, but the church didnt move there, it split. Another name for it was the Great Schism.

Greetings,

The split between East and West of which you speak relating specifically to the original secular Roman Empire, was not the same as the Christian Church although the split in the Church may had included similar geographical lines. The center of capital of the Western Empire was Rome. The center or capital of the Eastern Roman Empire also called the Byzantine Empire was Constantinople. That city was named after Constantine. He was an instigator of what would become the division of the secular empire into two parts. Constantine was involved in the establishment of a formal Christian church, but the Great Schism occurred long after his death.

The secular split in the Roman Empire took a century or two [beginning with Constantine], but was completed several centuries before the split in the church called the Great Schism [1054AD or CE]. It is much more complicated than that and without researching it myself I could not give you much more detail. By the time of the Great Schism, the Western Roman Empire really no longer existed at all. The Eastern Roman [Byzantine] Empire ( as a secular empire) continued until the Turks in the process of establishing their Ottoman Empire conquered in the city of Constantinople the 1400's.
