musical questions

please just say your true feelings
The word of God tells us that before Lucifer was cast down he was such a beautiful angel that he had pipes in his sides and his whole pourpose was to hover above the throne of God and play worship music ...after he was cast dwn he preverted that gift.. if youl look at LED ZEPPLIN album cover with the angel outsterched ( I dont rember he actual album name ) it looks as though the angel is in triumph pose...This is what he Lord has shown me. A lot of the music today is controling to the spirit like it was meant to be but in the perversion of his gift Satan uses it like a pied piper to lure some into his dark realm..not all music is of God but i beleve that when we make a joyful noise to the throne of God He knows it by the condition of our heart during worship...ive thrown off a lot of music that im convicted of listening to...but my mind and spirit are better for it..REV :shade:

The heart of a song is in it's lyrics

though i'm skeptical about metal's screamo parts because the sound is like all about hatred and anger

I think that it does not matter if you play a loud guitar or a flute, what matters is the actual lyrics of the song being sung! You can put evil words with a loud metal sounding band just as easily as you can with an orchestra or a harmonica!
I do understand when people give up secular music and chose to only listen to Christian music. I done it before.
I do listen to many genre of music, from loud guitars to Native American flutes! I guess bottom line...pray about it. We all are different, so if something hinders us from God, then it is something we do not need in our lives!

BTW Rev...I think my husband has that that record you are talking about from Led Zepplin....along with everything else that came out in the 70's..LOL...and it is interesting looking at the album covers and what they mean and all.

:weirdo:they didint call that era sex drugs and rock and roll for nothing ...what i remeber of it that is ...lol ,its was a time when music came to its most destrctive ptentiol ...my dad had a long and elustius carrer in western swing playing for bob wills at 15 ! and on from there . he had the gift of music....i heard a lot that glorified god just giving people peace and joy......but today christian metal makes me wonder if it can be used. but who am i that i shuold question Alimighty God ??? right!

My hubby don't remember much about the 70's either...LOL! I understand about what you mean. The 70's had some very weird :shock-animated:music that came out. I guess it depends on what type of music reaches you the most. I admit, that if all Christian music was like country music, I would have to just copy the words so I could enjoy it and leave out the music. :singing:

I'm with you on that!! But I think to each his own is the best answer regarding musical tastes. We can glorify God by what's in our hearts and in the lyrics we sing and listen to IMO.

very true! we all have our own taste in music. :immature:

I've been wondering myself lately. I recently felt a conviction (or what I believed was a conviction) to delete all of my trance/dance music. There were no lyrics, and the music itself was not evil. I thought to myself, "Would God listen to this type of music Himself?" But I've been struggling with this because, if that's the case, shouldn't we only listen to Christian music? Since it's not about ourselves but about the glory of God?

Gods music is not worldy music!

And not all music brings Glory to GOD!

Some may appear good but pertain to man and his soul and not to GOD even when the song is supposedly about God.

i further recommend to destroy all evil from your houses, pop music, cd's, posters, harry potter, TV etc.

i also got rid of all my old music collection from before i got saved and born again! It was a crate full of cd's: many genre's from soft rock, heavy metal, pop, trance, dance, hardcore, techno, alternative, rap music and even classical music i destroyed it all with a big kitchen knife and cut it all up, broke and smashed the devils music especially the heavy metal and hardcore devils music and got rid of all the disc's and covers (it was a lot of work and mess) but it sure was worth it.

i enjoyed it was actually fun!

i recommend destroying all worldy entertainment as cd's music and games you will have joy whilst you break the evil cd's to pieces! (safety first though: use safety goggles and wear handshoes, make use of a tool for destruction lest ye cut your fingers on those sharp cd's when they are broken)

i also destroyed and cut up old books that teach contrary to The Word of GOD (i was formerly heavily into witchcraft: occult, metaphysics and new age) i stabbed them devils books but the knifes top edge was bent because i stabbed so hard so i finished up by tearing them pages out with my hands to render them wicked satan's promotional material completely useless.

i also got rid of my computer games and broke and tore them all to pieces! All went into the dumpster totally useless and all cd's were shattered!

At first i though about selling it all but later i thought this music and entertainment i would not want someone else to listen to as it is all evil and a distraction.

What only matters is GOD

To me there is no such thing as:

"Christian" rap music -as it is worldy always by default and there is a spirit in that music that works pride in you and some hatred and arrogance
"Christian" heavy metal -as it is worldy always by default and there is a spirit in that music that works anger, hatred and always comes and resides with a deep spirit of rebellion

Pray for discernment! it is needed especially today! What is normal today was abnormal in 1940 and what was normal in 1940 was abnormal in 1880 things get worse and worse as we go on and the TV, world and the entertainment industry gets filled with more and more evil and vile as pornography out in the open, hatred, anger, wars, killings, sodomy, witchcraft etc!

And yes There is also a lot of good Godly music AMEN

God is GOOD!

Glory to GOD!

Hallelujah!

But if you would get rid of all worldy wickedness from your home: music, tv etc. (if you haven't already Praise God!) i believe that you will find yourself to be with more peace inside your home, plus after a while it get's easier to get your mind focussed on Heavenly things!

God is Good!

Hello dear sister Glow,

That is a good question!

i got convicted and felt i had to throw away and destroy the whole crate. i think it has to do with that many often a time classical music is not honouring God but man and man's achievements, man's own thinking.

(i know of some Godly classical music (Handel: The Messiah) but it was not in my crate, plus not all composers believe in God as some reject Him)

God Bless you,
dutch

Oh, I understand now. But does that mean that anything we do, it has to be specifically Christian? What if we simply enjoy the music and other blessings in our lives because they are gifts from God? Now, I'm not advocating wicked lyrics, or things that promote the very things that God hates, but what about simply listening to a no-lyrics song just to enjoy it? Is it giving glory to man to choose a steak over something untasty? Are seasonings bad, since they add flavor? What about clothing? Do we need to avoid any clothing that we see as likeable? Again, not advocating "skimpy" or "obscene" clothing, but does it have to look specifically Christian? What about vacations? Are they dishonoring because they focus on man and not God? What about sports, or going out with friends/your marriage partner, or anything else fun? Where does it end?

Now before you answer, I have to say, I don't mean to come across as snide or rude, not at all. I'm just a bit perplexed at myself lately, and have been filled with many questions regarding our Christian liberty. Although I believe that we as Christians have a type of freedom, it is, of course, not to be used as an excuse for sin. But there is another danger, and that is often legalism.

Hi @Glow

Let me help you remove that confusion.

Nothing wrong with adding seasoning to your food or eating steak.

Just ate fish with His disciples

Luke 24:36-43

36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, "Peace to you." 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. 38 And He said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 "Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a i spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have." 40 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 But while they still did not believe

Paul teaches that women should dress modestly, being a light of Christ

1 Timothy 2:8-10

8I desire therefore that the men pray l everywhere, m lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;9in like manner also, that the n women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and 5 moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing,10o but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.

Vacations: nothing wrong with this at all. If you work hard and (especially) if you are married w/ kids, it's a good thing to take a break from the norm and refresh. The Lord is pleased when His children are pleased.

Wow, when I re-read my last post, my selfishness seems to really come out. The thing is, although I said those things, I was actually having trouble with my own selfish desire to want to listen to whatever music I wanted rather than what the Lord wanted. (Non-vocal dance/trance music.) I still am not sure if it is wrong or not, but I think the safest thing to do is not listen for now until God reveals to me otherwise.

Hi Glow :)
your last post revealed the answer all along!!! We are each one created special and unique and like wise have different convictions than our brothers and sisters! Remember what Paul did? Although he wasnt personally convicted for eating the meat that was served to him he still did not eat of it because it offended or convicted his brother. you are very wise in saying that GOD will reveal it in time!!! blessings sister :)

Hi everyone. I'm starting to realize something that has hit me like a breath of fresh air, about Christian liberty:

Before, I was unsure about whether or not electronic music was okay to listen to, but then it was as though God spoke to my heart and said, "It's not what goes into a man that defiles him. It's what comes out of a man that defiles him," just like the scripture that says the same thing.

Now I realize, electronic music isn't wrong in and of itself. (Just like a piano or a guitar aren't evil in and of themselves.) It's only what you do with such music and instruments that determines if it's wrong. If you create music that has sinful lyrics or praises evil things, then that would be wrong. However, just creating sounds in and of themselves aren't evil. That would be like saying that certain drum beats and/or harmonies and/or melodies are evil in and of themselves. (Which the Bible does not say at all.)

Now, for me personally, I have had trouble in the past with electronic music because I used to listen to electronic music during my sinful years. Therefore, listening to it for ME personally brings up unwanted thoughts of my sinful years. However, for someone else it might not do the same thing. For instance, with rock music, I have never had a problem. (In fact, I felt really connected to God during some Christian rock hymns I just listened to.) But for someone who has had trouble with rock music because they listened to it while, for instance, doing drugs in the past, they might have issues listening to it anymore. Again, to each person let them be fully persuaded in their own minds.

Just a little bit of insight from personal experience.

My answer to the question: Yes!
It's the lyrical contents and the author's intentions that distinguish a Christian song from a non Christian song. Without the lyrics you wouldn't be able to tell.

well...pop music not at all..now playing pop music praising God i have no problem with...I use to play in a band ..now the music wasnt bad but now i only play music to glorify and worship our Lord Jesus....its also in the words that you sing...Music God loves...but only healthy loving music with nice words and also worship....i hope i said it right..lol..mind isnt working well...
