Doubting in my salvation

Thank you Styder, and I totally agree.....but I've always struggled with HOW to do those things. I mean, I understand about how we are supposed to cast down every thought that is not of God....but how do you do that?

I really have problems remembering verses like I want to! I've rebuked the thoughts till I'm blue in the face, but when they are an obsession...they just keep coming. I've noticed that it's a LOT worse if I drink anything with caffeine or eat anything with sugar....then my mind goes into overdrive and the thoughts are a lot worse.

And how do you put on the Armour of God? That concept has always been way over my head! I have a friend at church who literally gets up and goes through the motions of putting on each peice of Armour, imagining and describing what they look like....she described her breastplate to us, her helmet, etc. It was a great idea! I can grasp the idea of putting on imaginary armour, but it's what goes with it that I can't grasp, since you can't SEE faith, salvation, etc., etc.....hard to imagine putting it on.

Wow.....I wish I had named this thread Scrupulosity instead. Once I hit 50 posts, I'll start a thread on it and post some great links, in case anyone else ever develops it.

SavedByHim you said:"I understand about how we are supposed to cast down every thought that is not of God....but how do you do that? "
You have been getting some sound advice since you first posted this thread but, I would like to emphasise one.
My experiences about bad or negative thoughts is, we all have them to a certian degree. Now, granted maybe most of us don't have the negative thoughts that you and some others share but, PLEASE, listen to this clearly:

Our God is absolute perfection. His promise to believers, which I believe you are already one, is this: When we die He will make us perfect in every way, you can find this in 1 COR 13.
When our perfection comes, we will know fully as well as God knows us. And, there will be no more tears, doubts, fears or anything negative in our being.
But while we are all still in this imperfect state, here is one answer to your question ....but how do you do that? "

Absolutely, any negative thought, is not of or from God. Truly knowing God is to know this basic truth. It is impossible for him to give you a negative thought!
Get into the habbit of trusting God in this. When a negative thought appears, in any form, rebuke it and, take peace in the positive thought that this ,bad thought, is not of God and therefore a lie. Why should you allow yourself to be controled by a lie?
Jesus said: " All good things come from above"......that means all!

Remember, practice does make perfect. The more you allow God to turn these bad thoughts into a "good" thought, the less impact these negative thoughts will have on your life.

Start practicing this basic truth from God today!

God Bless

"And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever." (Jn 14:16 NIV)

The "Counselor" in this verse is the Holy Spirit. As Counselor, He is the source of our strength if we depend on Him. If we try to fight these battles using only our own strength, the devil will slap us silly every time.

Yes, I understand that.....and that is where my problem lies. I no longer "sense" or "hear from" the Holy Spirit anymore like I used to, and I don't understand why. I hope that is not committing the Unpardonable Sin by saying that, but I really struggle with this.

SBH, you are bound by fear. This is a plot to keep you from God. You have not committed the unpardonable sin and that is obvious. In the midst of "worrying" (which is the opposite of faith" God is drawing you and you feel a great need for His presence.
Make a choice, shake off the fear.

If you did the unpardonable sin then you wouldn't be seeking after God. My pastor and our church congregation believes that if you did the unpardonable sin, then you would absolutely want nothing to do with God or His saving grace. You would be given over to a reprobate mind as stated in Romans chapter 1.

you need to understand what repentance toward GOD means

Repentance i pray that the lord opens your eyes to this truth. read acts 26:20 and pray for understanding.

“He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." Proverbs 28:13

To the Corinthian church: "Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death." 2 Corinthians 7:9-10

To the believers in Ephesus: “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent." Revelation 2:5

To the lukewarm church in Laodicea: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." Revelation 3:19

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

“Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: 'Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago.'" Matthew 11:20

Boanerges diagnosed it correctly - you are bound up by fear.

Here's the "medicine" God is prescribing for your healing:

Each day, slowly read and meditate on Php 4:4-9, 30 minutes at the beginning of the day and as needed the rest of the day. Print the verses and keep them on your person.

P.S. - As my Alcoholics Anonymous friends would say, It works IF you work it.

Yes, I believe those things.....about other people. I cannot get it into my head that it applies to ME TOO.

I suffer from Scrupulosity.....(religious OCD). It's hard to explain if a person doesn't know anything about it-you can google it to learn more, but basically it is something wrong in my brain that makes it impossible to believe I am really saved. Or that I am forgiven if I sin. It causes a person to ask Jesus into their hearts, over and over and over, or to ask forgiveness for their sins over and over. You obsess about something, and then compulsively do things over and over to try to fix it. In my case, I'm obsessed with wondering if I'm really saved, and so I compulsively ask Jesus into my heart over and over, stressing over wondering if I'm going to Hell or not, no matter how many times God opens my heart to believe.

It's hell, I tell ya!

So if God killed the Israelites who murmmered and complained and did not believe that God would lead them into the Promised Land, then wouldn't He do the same thing to me, because of my INABILITY TO BELIEVE He really saved ME?

I think you just saved me a doctor bill because that sounds like what I have as well. May the Lord heal us from this sickness! It is a very terrible thing to go through...thanks for putting a name on this terrible sickness for me! May He bless us and keep us!

I just read this thread and have never read anything before which has so sounded like what i have been going through.

My situation is a little different in that I was following on with God well, until Xmas when I struggled with circumstances and then got depressed and then it got worse and then oppression set in. However, prior to this I have had periodic problems with negative voices/thoughts which are awful. The latest time it happened I thought of walking away from everything and since then I have felt that my heart hardened and I have not felt close to the Lord. I have still been having oppression. I have asked for forgiveness, I have prayed and gone to church - it is a terrible place to be - and I would just WARN anyone going through a time of awful voices/thoughts to HANG ON IN THERE and PRAISE and WORSHIP THE LORD and ask for His mercy aswell as searching for scriptures that are opposite to what the voices say. Also, STAND FIRM - know who you are in Christ - there is a course called Steps to Freedom which has a list of scriptures explaining who you are in Christ which might help.

sister savedbyhim,Many wonderful brothers and sisters have spoken well here, humbly may I add a few things. Do you remember when you were born? Do you remember what you did at 2 years old? I ask these questions to you, with this purpose in mind. Not a day goes by in my own life, that I do not regret something I did,it is always good to examine ourselfs daily!( 2 Cor13:5) Please read this Psalms 103:11-17!! To hold sin against our own selfs, believing Jesus has taken them away,to me is saying Jesus in us did not do enough? And wow!! we sure know that is not right! So we must learn to place our sin where Jesus has already put it!!Verse 12 as far as the east is from the west AND!!He remember them no more! Jesus in us is all that is perfect within us,certinly not our flesh! we know this,Jesus knows we know this as well.for Jesus unlike people looks deep within our Hearts!( Jeremiah 17:10) We know what we are without our Jesus!! NOTHING! SO!! with Jesus in us, which he surly is in you!! For I can sure see him! We do not allow Jesus to suffer again in us! He died to set us free, and only the devil is there to rob us IF!!! we let him! Remember HE!! not you is a thief!! ( john10:10) In order to lose something ,we must drop it,we must walk away from him, which we will never do! Knowing this to be true, bring rom 8:37-39 to pass everyday for everyone of us!! But in what?? amen sister!! ALL THINGS we overwhemingly conquer through who?? amen Jesus who loved us! Now since we know this to be true ,because we believe the Word!! verse 38 takes place for each one of us! For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels nor principalities. NOR things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth,NOR ANY other created thing, will be able to separte us from the love of GOD,which is in Christ Jesus!! Fear NOT!! YOU!! have been chosen!!( John 15:16) May this bring great joy to your soul and heart!! NEVER again think for one second think you are not part of the Body of Christ! For dear sister!! Not only are you a part of the Body of Christ, but you are even better!! YOU!! are a WORKING PART!! One we all need here, and we are so thankful to you!! Blessing be upon you,and allow the peace of our Jesus to fill you with his asurance in HIM!!Because knowing all this!! gives us this!!( john 14:27) PEACE I leave with you;MY PEACE I give to you;not as the world gives do I give you.DO NOT!! let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful!! AMEN!! I so agree!! Blessing and encourgment be yours!! always!!! in our Precious Jesus!

Another thought to add to this discussion: Spend lots of face-to-face time with other believers away from the church building. Socialize with them. Have fun with them. Spending significant time with other believers in non-church settings helps to strengthen one's faith. As for hearing God's voice, many times He speaks to me through other people.
