Facing the Giants

all i am saying is lets not throw out the baby with the bath water...imho i saw nothing in that movie that deneid Christ any his due...we will find temtations in our own churches..but it doesnt stop us from going.....im not as sucessful as Id like to be in this matter but every day we need to put our thoughts under the blood to avoid a wrong response to temptations..having the mind of Christ in this life is not an easy task for even the elite of us...but it should be our goal

Yes, having the Mind of Christ. This we should do. Would Christ sit down and watch a movie, one that tempted him, on purpose? Would his sitting down to watch a movie be doing the works of the Father who sent him? Is this self sacrificial love?

May the mind of Christ be in you, guiding you into all truth,

Gary

I'm interested in hearing what you think is a proper response to temptations, particularly that of lust. You say, "but it doesnt stop us from going". Does that mean you go, but avoid any temptations by just looking the other way? Or do you also avoid situations that you know might potentially cause you to sin?

For instance, obviously God doesn't say anywhere in His word that we can't go to a beach on a hot day. Yet, at the beach everywhere you look there would be temptation. If we play with fire will we not get burnt? So for that reason I don't go to the beach, even though I am sure I would enjoy just relaxing there doing my own thing.

Proverbs
6:25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Yes, for sure, that is our goal! And you're right, it is not easy. Taking up and carrying our cross takes dedication, perseverance and strength. The easy road is the wide one. We strive to walk on the narrow road of faith and in obedience to God.

Anyway, back to the subject of movies. If a Christian-produced movie glorifies God, it is worth watching. I just hope these movies don't become more worldly in order to expand their market base, like how a lot of Christian singers have done, with their "cross-over" attempts. When we dilute the Word to please the masses, the message is lost, not expanded.

If a man is tempted with lust for females, does it really doesn't matter what their wearing? While we should be considerate of the weaker brother, we should never make others responsible for our weaknesses.

I thought the movie was pretty good.

Wasn't Christ was led by HolySpirit into the wilderness to be tempted?

TV is a media good and bad, I don't watch much and stopped watching "christian tv" like TBN and the likes several years ago.

Jesus didn't have a TV to watch but if He did have one available maybe He would.

Jesus did connect with sinners where they were and much to the disgust of the religious crowd.

That is what scripture says, yes.

I cannot make a biblical argument to support or deny this claim, therefore I cannot use it to support or deny any truth.

Jesus was 100% selfless. If there is some argument that can be stated that would show that he would be watching television for the purpose of glorifying the Father and fulfilling his mission here, then I may be able to see it. There was no lack of entertainment mediums back then, they were just primitive compared to our vast self-absorbing line of vain activities. It was never recorded that Jesus once participated in them. So I am careful to be led to believe that Jesus would have participated in TV. The temptation would have been to set a TV in front of Jesus. The answer that I give when it happens to me is, it is written, I will not set any wicked thing before mine eyes as I have never seen anything completely pure on there.

Jesus did connect with sinners where they were and much to the disgust of the religious crowd.

I am thinking about the 'where they were' part of your statement. It is written that Jesus ate with sinners for the purpose of calling them unto repentance. What else does it say to show as what 'where they were' would mean?
