Forgive and Forget?

When we forgive someone that has asked us for forgiveness then we are to forgive that person of what he/she did that was wrong.

But as for completely forgetting, that's to me, another thing.

I'm not sure, but I think that GOD doesn't want us to completely forget.

For GOD gave us a memory, to be able to remember right from wrong.

To forget, sometimes, may be impossible, it goes against the way GOD has created us.

So I say, just because we can forgive, and still have memory of the wrong of what the person had done, doesn't necessarily mean that's a bad thing.

As long as we don't dwell on it.

To me, forget is, in a sense to treat this as though it never happened.
Forgive with understanding. To forget is to understand the fact of not dwelling - do not dwell on it.

And in that sense we forgive & forget.

But, always remember PRAYER!

Prayer to our Almighty Father, through our Beloved Savior Christ Jesus is the best way to find your answers.

And I will be praying for you too!

Yes, I think we should remember, so we do not allow it to take place again!
Evil things take place, and if we knew the type of being ?
We would not allow ourself to get in the place, where it could take place again or worse?

Proverbs 16:3

One way I know when I have truly forgiven someone is that I begin to have
compassion for them.

Thank you, Kingskid for sharing this Scripture with us all.

I believe in these words completely!

Proverbs 16:3 (New International Version)

3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and your plans will succeed.

My niece also calls her self AKingsKid, too.

We must differentiate between the offering of forgiveness by the offended person and the receiving of forgiveness by the offender.

Of course we must, from our hearts, forgive the offenders when they repent. But, Jesus also told us to forgive those who sin against us period, whether or not they repent:

"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But, if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Mt 6:14-15)

"And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him that your heavenly Father may forgive you your sins." (Mk 11:25)

There are no clauses in Scripture requiring the sinner to first repent to be forgiven. It's a darned good thing, too. The forgiveness I accepted from God in 1983 was given me in about 34 A.D. by Jesus Christ.
