The Facts About
HALLOWEEN
(Taken from an email I received)

Halloween is a festival where images of witches on broomsticks, black
cats, ghosts, skeletons, and hundreds of other scary images can be seen
everywhere. For many people, Halloween is nothing but a time for scary
fun, dressing in costumes, asking for candy, and making big parties, but
are not concerned about the origins of Halloween and it’s association with
the occult, death, it’s focus on blood, and its effect on their lives.

Halloween originated in northern Europe when Pope Gregory IV in 835 AD,
designated November 1st as “All Saints Day or All Hollow’s Day”, (Hallow
refers to saints) to celebrate saints and martyred saints. Hallows evening
was on October 31, which became a special day celebrated by the ancient
druids, who were magicians, sorcerers, and priestly class of the Celtic
religion. They engaged in occult arts, witchcraft, worship of nature, and
human sacrifice to satisfy their “lord of the dead.” Samhain, the druid’s
New Year (Oct. 31), was believed to be the time when the dividing line
between the living and the dead was the thinnest, making it easier to
contact the spirits. Satanists see Halloween as their holiest day, which
is also the favorite holiday for witches and sorcerers. They all call on
spirits for personal power by meditation, human and animal sacrifices.
Satanists prepare all year for this day so the powers of darkness will be
at work over all the land that night.
Girls are ritually impregnated and their babies are offered as sacrifices
to Satan. All of the supposedly “innocent” Halloween customs and symbols
have their origin in the ancient Celtic day of the dead. For example,
trick or treating is from the Celtic tradition where people gave food to
the spirits of the dead in return for blessings. Not supplying treats
would return in demonic retaliation. Jack-o-lanterns came from the Celtic
tradition of carving faces of demonic spirits on turnips, and later, on
pumpkins as a symbol of a dammed soul. Candle light pumpkins or skulls at
a home signified that the occupants were sympathetic of Satan and would
receive mercy by spirits in trick or treaters. This means that wherever
you have them you are welcoming demons into that place, even in church.
Bone fires took place with human sacrifices at midnight. Adults and
children would be thrown into a huge fire while celebrants danced around
them in demonic feast. By morning, all was that
was left was ashes and bones. The broomsticks and witches hats were
originally considered phallic symbols. When used in rituals of witchcraft,
these objects supposedly transformed the sexual energy released during
orgasm into psychic energy. Dunking apples was a part of the druid new
year, divination of gender in pregnant women. The druids also believed
black cats were reincarnation of the evil dead, and possessed supernatural
power and knowledge, and this is why black cats are such an important part
of Halloween.

Halloween is not an innocent celebration. Babies, children, adults, and
animals will be sacrificed on that night while many Christians who lack
the knowledge, or do not fear God will enjoy the parties and trick or
treating. God said in Deuteronomy 18:9-13 that whoever practices
divination, sorcery, or communicating with the dead is detestable to the
Lord. (Also see: Deuteronomy 18:10-12; 2 Kings 21:6; Micah 5:12; Isaiah
47:12; Ezekiel 13:18, 20; Acts 8:11-24; Leviticus 20:27; Exodus 7:11;
Revelation 9:21; 22:15). ICorinthians:10:18-21 tells us you cannot drink
of the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too. You may not be wearing
scary customs on that day or be a cult member, but if you celebrate
Halloween in any way, you are spiritually participating in the killings
and rituals that take place during Halloween night, and you are opening
doors to demonic powers in your life and family. You cannot separate
Halloween from the spirit realm. I Peter 5:8,9 tells us the
devil, as a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom he may devour. As
Christians we need to come together and pray that God may save and spare
the lives of all those children appointed to die. Matthew 12:30 says, “He
who is not with me is against me”. Luke 16:13 says we cannot serve two
masters. Revelation 2:18 and Galatians 5:20-21 tells what the punishment
for those who practice the occult will be. I John 4:1,2 say that we are to
test all spirits to see if they are of God and I John 2:15 says that we
are not to love the world or the things in the world; halloween is of the
world and not of God.

Congress has been trying to pass laws to protect our children from so
much violence exposure on TV, movies, music, games, etc, yet we think that
once a year it’s ok to celebrate demonic holidays, blood shedding, and
horror. Don’t you think this defeats the whole purpose of sheltering our
children and us from such violence? Instilling fear in our children will
bring much damage to them for life, besides, God said that He has not
given a spirit of fear, but of power, and love and a sound mind (2 Timothy
1:7). Do you stand for holidays that sacrifice human babies in honor of
Satan in that day? If you are against groups like the Nazis, KKK, etc, why
is this holiday any different? Please use logic! Hosea 4:6 says “MY people
are destroyed for they lack knowledge.” By understanding the origins of
Halloween, we are not ignorant anymore. As parents, we must decide whether
or not to allow or children to participate in pagan occult celebrations,
which glorify the powers of darkness.
God offers us eternal life through his son, Jesus Christ. If you believe
his death and resurrection is payment in full for your sins, and invite
him to come into your heart, you will have eternal life (John 3:3,16;
Romans10:9). His word reveals to us his plan, for the Bible is the word of
God, the mind of God, the plan of God, and the purpose of God for your
life! Jesus loves you, accept him in you heart today.

While I would`nt necessarly disagree that Halloween has pagan origins,
(acknowledging I have no reference base for either agreement or disagreement) the problem with the "Facts" here is the author has not listed one resource to verify the "Facts" as she/he terms them.

Historian, Nicholas Rogers has written,

"It is not always easy to track the development of Halloween in Ireland and Scotland [Celtic] from the mid-seventeenth century, largely because one has to trace ritual practices from [modern] folkloric evidence that do not necessarily reflect how the holiday might have changed; these rituals may not be "authentic" or "timeless" examples of pre-industrial times"

Hosea 4:6 says “MY people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
Yes, thats the Word of God. The problem is the "lack of knowledge"
can most clearly be seen in the "Its a FACT" (because I/they, said so!) statements, so willingly and commonly used by christians, against things other christians might be doing...or taking part in...without any valid proof of the said "Fact" (ugh!)

Just saying....

The jack-o-lantern tale is bugging me...Wikipedia tells me this (search key word: Halloween):

"In America the tradition of carving pumpkins is known to have preceded the Irish immigration and the tradition of carving vegetable lanterns may also have been brought over by the Scottish or English; documentation is unavailable to establish when or by whom. The carved pumpkin was associated generally with harvest time in America, and did not become specifically associated with Halloween until the mid to late 19th century."

It just seems to me, what one culture or country does with a custom, tradition, or holiday, does`nt make the same custom "evil" in another country. Ie. If a missionary to some african tribal community finds the heathens build bonfires, and dance around them, calling down evil spirits, then should the missionary begin to preach against bonfires to americans?

I`m just thinking out loud...admitedly I have not a clue about the origins of halloween lol...other than what wikipedia just told me...and none of us should be too quick to accept another persons commentary or beliefs as truth without study. [2Ti 2:15]

If Halloween was not originally the devil's idea...he sure made it devilish nowadays. At least in the states (U.S.) cultural style of Halloween. The whole scare tactics and fear-injecting style scenery must be from him after all. Especially the pranks.

Encyclopedia Britannica

Halloween had its origins in the festival of Samhain among the Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland. November 1 was considered the end of the summer period, the date on which the herds were returned from pasture and land tenures were renewed. It was also a time when the souls of those who had died were believed to return to visit their homes. People set bonfires on hilltops for relighting their hearth fires for the winter and to frighten away evil spirits, and they sometimes wore masks and other disguises to avoid being recognized by the ghosts thought to be present. It was in these ways that beings such as witches, hobgoblins, fairies, and demons came to be associated with the day. The period was also thought to be favourable for divination on matters such as marriage, health, and death. When the Romans conquered the Celts in the 1st century AD, they added their own festivals of Feralia, commemorating the passing of the dead, and of Pomona, the goddess of the harvest.

In the 7th century AD, Pope Boniface IV established All Saints' Day, originally on May 13, and in the following century, perhaps in an effort to supplant the pagan holiday with a Christian observance, it was moved to November 1. The evening before All Saints' Day became a holy, or hallowed, eve and thus Halloween. By the end of the Middle Ages, the secular and the sacred days had merged. The Reformation essentially put an end to the religious holiday among Protestants, although in Britain especially Halloween continued to be celebrated as a secular holiday. Along with other festivities, the celebration of Halloween was largely forbidden among the early American colonists, although in the 1800s there developed festivals that marked the harvest and incorporated elements of Halloween. When large numbers of immigrants, including the Irish, went to the United States beginning in the mid 19th century, they took their Halloween customs with them, and in the 20th century Halloween became one of the principal U.S. holidays, particularly among children.

As a secular holiday, Halloween has come to be associated with a number of activities. One is the practice of pulling usually harmless pranks. Celebrants wear masks and costumes for parties and for trick-or-treating, thought to have derived from the British practice of allowing the poor to beg for food, called “soul cakes.”

Trick-or-treaters go from house to house with the threat that they will pull a trick if they do not receive a treat, usually candy.

Halloween parties often include games such as bobbing for apples, perhaps derived from the Roman celebration of Pomona. Along with skeletons and black cats, the holiday has incorporated scary beings such as ghosts, witches, and vampires into the celebration. Another symbol is the jack-o'-lantern, a hollowed-out pumpkin, originally a turnip, carved into a demonic face and lit with a candle inside. Since the mid 20th century, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has attempted to make the collection of money for its programs a part of Halloween.

"If Halloween was not originally the devil's idea...he sure made it devilish nowadays. At least in the states (U.S.) cultural style of Halloween."

True...its pretty dark...

But i`m reminded here of what Paul said in his letter to the Romans
(14:5) "One person decides that one day is better than another, while another person decides that all days are the same..."

(14:14) "I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in and of itself..."

So this would`nt be a good place to say, trick or treat (NY cheesecake) to you eh? :embarasse

This is something from History.com to show it's not just something Christians "made up".

Origins

Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in).

The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies were an important source of comfort and direction during the long, dark winter.

To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities.

During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other's fortunes. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter.

By A.D. 43, Romans had conquered the majority of Celtic territory. In the course of the four hundred years that they ruled the Celtic lands, two festivals of Roman origin were combined with the traditional Celtic celebration of Samhain.

The first was Feralia, a day in late October when the Romans traditionally commemorated the passing of the dead. The second was a day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple and the incorporation of this celebration into Samhain probably explains the tradition of "bobbing" for apples that is practiced today on Halloween.

By the 800s, the influence of Christianity had spread into Celtic lands. In the seventh century, Pope Boniface IV designated November 1 All Saints' Day, a time to honor saints and martyrs. It is widely believed today that the pope was attempting to replace the Celtic festival of the dead with a related, but church-sanctioned holiday. The celebration was also called All-hallows or All-hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints' Day) and the night before it, the night of Samhain, began to be called All-hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween. Even later, in A.D. 1000, the church would make November 2 All Souls' Day, a day to honor the dead. It was celebrated similarly to Samhain, with big bonfires, parades, and dressing up in costumes as saints, angels, and devils. Together, the three celebrations, the eve of All Saints', All Saints', and All Souls', were called Hallowmas.

I read the articles, as I have many before...this forum has a thread for every halloween since its beginning I think lol. I dont think I have ever commented on the halloween issue before, but I thought the email in the OP was one of the most extreme I ever read, even if, factual about the origins of halloween as it may be.

I strongly disagree with the authors conclusion that he/she included in with what they state to be facts:

"You may not be wearing scary customs on that day or be a cult member, but if you celebrate Halloween in any way, you are spiritually participating in the killings and rituals that take place during Halloween night, and you are opening doors to demonic powers in your life and family."

Where is the biblical basis for making such a bold statement? The scripture that was used, certainly doesnt in my view, and i`m unaware of any NT scripture that does.

I think, to agree with the author, I would have to also say Paul was "opening the church doors to demonic powers" when he stated, if you be "disposed," you may go to a pagan party, and eat pagan meats sacrificed to devils. (1Co 10) No, Paul preached "to the pure, all things are pure." This speaking of the condition of our hearts, what our intents and purposes are. (Rom 14:20) This is likely why he told Timothy to
"avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings"

1Co 10:28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:
1Co 10:29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?
1Co 10:30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
1Co 10:32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
1Co 10:33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

Halloween
Kid's Treat or Pagan Trick?

The widespread problem of harmful substances such as razor blades, drugs, poisons, needles, etc. being placed in the Halloween treats here in America is no accident. Testimonies of several ex-Satanists show that these children killed and injured by the "treats" are sacrifices to Satan (or Samhain). Satanists throughout the world continue to perform human sacrifices on Halloween.

I know one thing that I had found out that pilgrims (protestant) find it evil the one that was the founder of the United States. Until maybe like 300 something odd years latter Halloween came in 1900 when the Roman Catholic from Ireland to bring that junk here so that’s one basic stuff to understand…:lightbulb

I would like to add a differnt side to this

Before I was saved by the Lord, I was a witch and being such I had no respect for any christian who told me I was going to hell ( which of course I was), while they were celebrating my(witch's) holidays and finding it fun and innocent. Any Christian who wanted to witness to me who also celebrated halloween etc... i refused to listen to because i felt they did not even take their own bible seriously and wanted to tell me my witchcraft was wrong, while they werent willing to turn from their own pleasure in witchcraft.

After the Lord saved me, He showed me that indeed i should no longer being celebrating those days no matter how innocent people tried to make it seem ( because i knew better) and He also showed me that even if it was ok which it isnt, that if my doing such, ruined by testimony with any unbeliever, then it was terrible and i was giving up the worth of my testimony with them for foolishness just as so many had who tried to justify it to me when i was a witch.

Each person will walk with the Lord as He leads them and as they are willing but this is something i rarely here talked about in all this halloween stuff.

It feels amazing! There was no way when I was in such darkness that I could have known the greatness of the glory of the God that then I hated so much in my rebellion and pride and lusts.

I too, was raised to be very worldly, but now with all my heart, soul & mind, and I hope, with all my might, I will become Holy as HE is Holy, this is my hopes & care about the moat of all the things in my life.

Here are some scriptures that inspired me.

Genesis 4:6-7
6 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."

This gave me the strenghth to try with all my might to do what is right in The Almighty GOD'S eyes & to pay close attention to HIS Word {Jesus Christ}.

Deuteronomy 5:29
29 Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!

This scripture says to me The Almighty GOD wants to love & care for us. And encouraged me to try {with all my might} to live by HIS commandments {HIS Word - Jesus Christ' Teachings}.

Ezekiel 3:1 - 11
1 And he said to me, "Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the house of Israel." 2 So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat.

3 Then he said to me, "Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it." So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.

4 He then said to me: "Son of man, go now to the house of Israel and speak my words to them. 5 You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult language, but to the house of Israel- 6 not to many peoples of obscure speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have listened to you. 7 But the house of Israel is not willing to listen to you because they are not willing to listen to me, for the whole house of Israel is hardened and obstinate. 8 But I will make you as unyielding and hardened as they are. 9 I will make your forehead like the hardest stone, harder than flint. Do not be afraid of them or terrified by them, though they are a rebellious house."

10 And he said to me, "Son of man, listen carefully and take to heart all the words I speak to you. 11 Go now to your countrymen in exile and speak to them. Say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says,' whether they listen or fail to listen."

These scriptures spoke to me, telling me to go out & to preach to GOD'S children, everyone, whether or not they believe in The Akmighty GOD or not.

Speak to them. Even if they do not listen, I still must try to get through to them.

Ezekiel 33:11
11 Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?"

Malachi 3:7
7 Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you," says the LORD Almighty
These two scriptures says The Almighty GOD -LOVES- all HIS children - the wicked & the good, and that HE wants us all to live forever. All we have to do is love one another, be kind to all & love The Almighty GOD with all our heart, always putting HIM first, for HE created us & knows what's best for us all.

Matthew 6:1-14
Giving to the Needy
1"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Prayer
5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9"This, then, is how you should pray:
" 'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.[a]' 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

These scriptures not only teach us how to pray propperly to The Almighty GOD, but also teach us how to show our respects to HIM as well.

I have a question for everyone, what if someone was to trace Christmas back to a pagan holiday or celebration, would you stop celebrating Christmas?

"they were celebrating my(witch's) holidays"
"they werent willing to turn from their own pleasure in witchcraft"

I need to ask...who says anyone who takes part in Halloween is 'celebrating a witch`s holiday?' Does your 'thinking' thats what they are doing, make it so? Going back to my earlier post, if I see a man in an idols temple enjoying a feast, and I conclude he is 'celebrating' some pagan ritual, and 'taking pleasure' in pagan idols, does my own thinking make my conclusion right?

I am not trying to affect your concience because if you think this festival is wrong, it is wrong for you to take part. But because you have stated "taking part in Halloween is giving up 'their' testimony for foolishness" and this would include me, I am openly saying I disagree.

This is the pitfall of trying to carry the thinking and reasoning of an unregenerated mind, into the spiritual realm. As Paul says in Rom 12:2 "Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Our belief here is influenced entirely by our own understanding of what it means to "conform to the world" Should`nt our beliefs be based on the truth,(the Word of God) and not simply our thinking? Is`nt conformity a matter of the heart?
Christ ate and drank with sinners, should we then conclude with the Pharisees that He was a sinner? Nay.

If all a man or woman of God has to do to 'give up their testimony' is take part in some foolishness, there`s no hope for any of us. Just about 100% of what we do for fun, is foolishness. As the writer of Ecc. says "all is vanity"

Not taking part in Halloween will not bring us closer to God. We are no worse off if we do not, and no better off if we do...Paul said in 1Co 9:21 "To those outside the law I became as one outside the law--not being without law toward God but under the law of Christ--that I might win those outside the law."

I personally dont care what the origins of Halloween or any other festival is, or what others do with it. When Paul walked thru the streets and the temples of Athens, he wasnt overconcerned with all their beloved mythology and he didnt even try to tear down their alters to the greek gods...he knew their idols and their gods were nothing...the only thing that troubled him was they didnt yet know God, and so he preached Christ.

I have a question for everyone, what if someone was to trace Christmas back to a pagan holiday or celebration, would you stop celebrating Christmas?

This is aver good question, but a very sensitive one. And is a matter of opinion.

No, I would not. But I would always remain remembering Jesus Christ and all He has done for us all.

I would still do my best to fallow & live His Teachings, always.
And thus I will always - always worship GOD.
