oh okay, thanks for explaining this. I also sometimes just choose random books to start with. like I could take a month to study the book of John, then next month I study the book of James

There is nothing wrong with studying one of the independent books of the bible to seek the truth within the context of that book but you must remember that Genesis to Revelation is the full context within that book must belong. The New Testament is not independent of the Old Testament etc. It is all part of the full Council of God and to be understood by interpreting itself.

Illustration:

1 John 1:9 states:

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

This is within the context of the book of 1 John and must be seen in its direct context. Verses 5-10 are a complete thought that expresses salvation and verse 9 is bound to that context.

But if you consider the book alone and independent of the rest of scripture you may fall into error.

1 John 1:9 states of Gods forgiveness of sin directly as it is to be understood in the context of the Gospel which requires repentance from the sin of following Satan as Lord and turning unto God the Father completely agreeing with God about what he says the truth is.

It must also fit the context of the New Testament which also states that if we sin willfully (follow Satan) after we have received the knowledge of the act being sin, that there remains no more sacrifice for sin.

These two must be made to agree. Scripture interprets scripture. Christs sacrifice for your sin is not independent of your rejection of committing sin on purpose. Committing sin on purpose is the rejection of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and is considered to be an act of counting the blood of the covenant that you are sanctified with to be an unholy thing.

Do not Err my beloved brother,

His word is like food to our soul.
Matthew 4:4

Imagine only reading the Bible or hearing about scripture once a week in church. Wouldn't the soul be hungry the other six days?

Absolutely! Few, if any, of us fast from natural food all day every day, if ever. More likely we eat our 3 meals plus snacks on a daily basis. What do we think then of Jesus' words ...?

"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matt 4:4

And what good does it to eat the written Word without the Holy Spirit? "

"Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." II Cor 3:6

What then is it that we need to be eating?

Is Jesus not the Word of God? Isn't this also the name we have heard our Bibles called?

We all know what will happen to our bodies of flesh if they receive no, or insufficient, natural nourishment for too long of time. They die!

Why would we think that the new inner man, the new born man, the man born from above, the new creature in Christ, needs less to eat and drink of essential things than the natural man?

Were the following words spoken only to the 1st man Adam?

"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Gen 2:17

Do we not eat of that forbidden tree every time we partake of the things of this world instead of things of God? If we continue to eat more death than life, what will be our final result?

GOD wants us reading the Bible and asking Him the meaning of what we read . It food for our New baby spirit if we are born of God ?

Mat_4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

1Pe_2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

We need to read the bible , More than we need the air we breath or food we eat

God Word is Alive . It not like any other books on Earth . They bring health and hope and a purpose for living and life to many . It really important to read it .
satan tried to destroy and keep it from mankind . Might be a day not far off when , We will not be able to read it ?
