I want to be in the right church denomination while im young.. Which one is the most Biblical church and why? Also what does Matthew 7:17-20 mean

'We' do not ask for a spiritual gift -- they are given to us by the Holy Spirit upon a person's salvation. Take a look at 1 Corinthians 12 : 7 "But the manifestation of the Spirit is Given to each one for the profit of all." and then vs 27 - 28 "Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps , administrations, varieties of tongues.

"Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?

But earnestly desire the best gifts. And, yet, I show you a more excellent way."

Then we have chapter 13 -- the greatest is 'love'. And the rest of the chapter. Very thought provoking.

John 14:14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. Matthew 7:9-11 Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!! where is your faith?

What I meant is that the 1 Corinthians passage was talking specifically about God giving a person specific spiritual gifts upon salvation. In other words 'we' don't Ask for them to Be given -- they Are given.

And the John 14 passage is talking about asking God for things. You are including spiritual gifts in that passage. that's all I meant by 'misapplication'

You're taking it personally and it's not meant in a personal way at all. People agree / disagree with other people all the time.

ok no worries!! but I still disagree with you about the asking of gifts, john 14 is quite clear also if u pray for say the will of the father or for say strength to serve Gods kingdom then he will in turn give u say the spirit of wisdom to accommodate you coz u have asked not of urself but of his will if in dat sense that is wat u mean then yeah if not den ull have 2 prove it 2 me man!! its as clear as day!! ask 4 his will and he will reward u 4 it.

I pray short prayers all the time -- asking for wisdom in how to deal with various situations at home, etc.
