Precious sister....I would not dare to preach to you because I see you are a sister of mine....in Jesus. And you read His word, and you know His love for you whatever.

But as you are asking us...I would suggest that in my view smoking stinks. I can detect a smoker immediately by the smell. I am aware and see the addiction, the bondage, the slavery..... and for what reason? Shortness of life! Chronic disease!

Pack it in sister....and be glad you did.

A lovely lady...a precious family.....

Well take it easy sister, smoking is hard to quit. If you feel you should quit. As far as it being a sin, sin is the transgression of the law. 1John 3:4 Smoking is not under that law. So use your conscience about it

God bless and know that your saved by grace, and not by dos and don't s. Unless it is a sin (transgression of the law) use your conscience. It will either accuse you, or excuse you.

Let no one judge you on this

God bless

My answer to your question is probably yes and here is why:

Yes sin seperates us from God, thanks be to Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross.

Another way to look at this is, does God smoke? Of course not, why would a perfect being want to something so nasty and harmful much less doing something man made. Smoking is a desire of the flesh and not of the Spirit, which God is Spirit.

Also, that brings up an interesting point, God's perfection. Anytime we humans, in our imperfect state, do anything that is contrary to God's perfect nature and will, that would be sin.

Things like anger, doubt, negative thoughts and actions, lieing, stealing and the list goes on an on, which of course bad habits like smoking could be added to the list and, there is also the possible nicotine addiction, that goes along with it.

I smoked 20 yrs., back when there was no obviuos danger to it.
I haven't lit up in over 30 yrs. now. If you think a non-smoker doesn't like it, I'll tell you it is even worse for a true ex-smoker, gives me headaches and makes me naucious.....you really ought to quit that nasty stuff!

smoking involves nicotine. nicotine involves addiction. addiction=bondage. bondage is sin.
also smoking is adding impurities to your body, which is HIS temple for HIS spirit to dwell in.

i don't think it is sin because i know christian who smoke's

That is a fair enough statement, but, it drives home a point.

No Christian is immune to sinning.
Because of the cross, we are dead to sin but know where in the Bible does it say that were are dead to sinning.

Look at what St. Paul says about his own sin at the end of Romans 7 and the begining of Romans 8. He acknowledges his own sin and then states "thanks be to Jesus Christ" and then says," there is no condemnation for anyone in Christ.

Until we are "face to face" with God and our perfection comes, we are still in an imperfect state and continue to sin in some form.

Show me a Christian that doesn't have a negative thought now and then. That is outside God's perfect will and nature and therefore a sin!

God says of course keep working on being perfect and sinless, it is the desire to be perfect that counts and, when you fall down on that, God's says that's O.K. my Son and the cross has already taken care of that.

Thanks be to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

I believe that smoking is a sin, because it is a trap of the enemy to get oneself addicted to it. It spoils the health of the person, which is something God did not design the human body for. God wants us to live a healthy life, not to make poor choices and spoil our health.

Smoking

Hello all,
Is lying a sin? Is disobeying your mother or Father a sin?
Is any of Gods commandments broken a sin?
Is going against your conscious a sin?

I knew of a pastor who on some occasions lied through his teeth.
I knew of another pastor who bared false witness!
I knew of the first pastor who mentioned smoking was a sin towards an individual who was struggling with it in asking God for strength.

That Last individual happens I know who has been struggling with smoking for a long time.
This person does not lie through their teeth. This person does not bare false witness. This person has been following what God presents to their conscious on what he says what sin is.
What is sin?

By the way I do not smoke.
But anyone legitimately born again knows what struggling with sin means. If we say we have not sin we call God a liar and his word has no place in us.

What is sin?

Sin is breaking the laws of God. (1Jn 3:4)

But if you have the Spirit of God, your life is controlled by one law, that is love. (Gal 5:18)

Love never does anything that is harmful to its neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfillment of Gods law. (Rom 13:10)

By the way I do not smoke.

By the way I do.

Fleshly pleasures, or non pleasures as you prefer, like smoking, eating, drinking, breathing, and stinking, should not be confused with the works of the carnal man [issues of the heart] which shows itself in immoral ways, filthy thoughts, and shameful deeds. (Gal 5:19)

God's Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways. (Gal 5:22)

As for the faith you do have, have it as your own conviction before God. How blessed is the person who has no reason to condemn himself (he does nothing to hurt his neighbor) because of what he approves! (Rom 14:22)

Lisa, I smoke also. For over 30 years. I have tried everything to stop. I don't believe it is a sin. But I do think it hurts my witness. Does that make any since? We may be the only Jesus some people see. I want to honor Jesus, not give a bad impression.

One would have to conclude that it is. Even if it is not a sin against God it is a sin against ones own self. Any time you use your lungs as a filter, it can't be good. If you smoke, pray that the Lord will help you quit. I don't believe you will go to hell for doing so but even little sins are bad sins and counted against you so pray often for forgivness and keep your slate clean.

What is sin? Sin is rebellion against God. Through Jesus, we are reconciled to God.

Now that we are born again, a new creation, covered by His blood, we are no longer in rebellion but a child of God.
Romans 8:1
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,

When the scriptures say there will be no liars or adulterers in heaven it does not mean that all of us are perfect but that if we are born again, we are a new creation, a child of God and we are perfected. Those who are not born again will not be there.

As a child of God, in our love for Him, we should want to love Him so much that our walk honors Him. Some detractions in our behavior is obvious to others and can hurt our witness but all Christians need to remember that while other's sins may show in public, no one is without sin.

I think sins that we allow to continue to have some place in our lives robs us of witnessing and thereby robs us of some eternal rewards that we may otherwise have had.

But to try and parse out one sin over another - there are many that people don't see. Some people have hidden addictions such as pornography or gambling who will point at those who smoke.

Then there are those who are prolific liars or abuse their wife and kids who will point at others's sins.

Jesus said if we hate someone we have commited murder. God's bar is zero tolerance.

So would we measure every calorie we eat to make sure we are not gluttons? Of course not.

But the longer we walk with Him and the more we come to know His love and peace and joy the more the things that held us captive - fall way.

I would be more concerned about a person's ability to forgive others and to love the least lovable and share His message with them rather than focusing on self and our sins. If we focus on others, He will break the bondage that hinder our walk.
We have no power over sin - He does.

smoking?
Just making sure that on what I wrote was for the smokers defense for right and not in the judgment of a smoker. another words you did take my reply as positive? Yes?

everyone of us stands guilty before God. Without Christ the gig is up, with Christ we have confidence before God because we have a savior which is Christ the Lord.

Your body belongs to god..it's his temple

Sister, your body belongs to God, it was bought at a very high price by Jesus blood.

Your body let's say is the appartment you are renting, the appartment you live in it but it doesn't belong to you ever. You have to keep the appartment clean and well kept.

God is the owner of your body, therefore, you must keep it clean of all things that makes your body unclean. It doesn't have to be written that you must not smoke..you know it is harmful to your body, as you know you have to keep the inside of your appartment clean, therefore if you smoke in your appartment..the walls get yellow, your clothes smell of smoke, your breath isn't smelling nice and your lungs get black the same way as if you forgot something on the stove and it caught fire.

The owner doesn't have to tell you how to keep the appartment clean, you know you have to do it. Same thing with your body. God says to keep it clean, not to to participate in things that is a abomination to His eyes and He gave us intelligence to know the difference between right and wrong. You know it is wrong to smoke, you know that it harms your health and you know death is just around the corner.

God doesn't have to write every single thing that you need not to do..you know what is good for your body. If I gave you a glass of milk and told you there were two drops of arsenic in it but take a chance that the milk has neutralized the arsenic and drink it.. WOULD YOU?

I don't think so.

Romans12: 1 Present your bodies as a sacrifice living holy acceptable to God, a sacred service with your power of reason.

Therefore reason: is smoking presenting my body as a holy?

1 Cor. 6:15 Do you not know know that YOUR bodies are members of Christ? Shall I, then take the members of the Christ away and make them members of a harlot? Never that may happen.
v 19: What! Do you not know that the body of YOU people is the templeof the holy spirit within YOU, which you have from God? Also, YOU do not belong to yourselves.
20: YOU were bought at a price. By all means, glorify God in the body of YOU people.

So, I believe we know that we should follow the ten Commandments and not break the law of adultry, or do anything sexual that is forbidden..just saying that we must have sex only in marriage says it all. No need to go in detail..right?

If you are asking for someone to give you verses to see if smoking is a sin..then YOU know you are doing wrong. Are you not deep down seeking the right to smoke? If it is written that we must present our bodies as a sacrifice and holy, then YOU know smoking isn't a good thing for your as you know the consequences what happens if you don't clean your appartment right?

Is smoking a sin? Maybe not but not keep it it clean is. I always keep my house clean as if Jesus would come and visit me, so imagine my body.
Outside am 66, inside am 30 the doctors say and are amazed. Simple, I keep my body clean, I watch what I eat, what I drink, so if Jesus was to come and visit my body He would find it spic and span..

So even though some things are not a sin, it's a sin not to keep one's body clean so to speak as our bodies do not belong to us.

Go into the index of your Bible and look up..Body..then go check..am sure you will know that smoking isn't right..otherwise if it was good why do people die from it?

So pray to God to help you break that addicition and I will pray for you too.

Sin or not?, I smoked heavily for many years. I finally quit in 1994 (after some 30 or so years). In 2005 I was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer and have been through all the treatments. I am now on Hospice and each day is a day by Gods grace. Unknown how long I have left, whether it is months or a few years but I am unable to do much of anything anymore. Hope God grants you the ability to give them up.....

Tabacco wasn't given to smoke

Tobacco wasn't made to smoke..it heals broken bones is one of the proprieties I know of it.

God's Pharmacy has many herbs to heal, some you can ingest others you can't.

You take a risk always when you don't follow what God made something for..like eating foods that are scavangers, you take a risk eating them, like pork. We wouldn't have the swine flu if the pigs were used for what they were made for..clean up the earth. I saw a pig eat a dead cat and a dead chicken.

So when you misuse what God gave us to care for ourselves, then you suffer the consequences.

It isn't a sin not to eat the foods God said not to eat...but you take the risk of suffering the consequences.

Our body belongs to God, He knows what is good for us and what isn't, He gives us His instructions and if you don't listen then you pay the price.

It is that simple.

Dear Lisa,
Although smoking is not mentioned in the Bible, I don't believe that we can really call it a sin as much as it is a hinderance to your witness as being a child of God. By this I mean when we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour we are expected to be different from the world now.

On the day you received Jesus Christ as your Saviour the Holy Spirit came to dwell on the inside of you. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, 19. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God and, and ye are not your own?
20. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. So this is telling us that we belong to God now and what glory would God get from our smoking?

It is a known fact that smoking causes cancer which has the warning right on the label of the packages and it causes other illnesses as well, so why would we do anything to harm ourselves in such a manner as this? Jesus died on the cross to free us from all manner of addictions and bad habits.

Plus there will be no smoking in heaven, there will be no polluting heaven with any cigarette smoke...LOL.

Hi Lisa---Looks like your already convicted of your need to quit---Just need a little support and guidance---The Lord is much more powerful than the addiction of nicotine---As you read God's word and develop a deeper love and trust relationship with Jesus you'll begin to love what He loves and detest what He detests---And as you begin to see the harm and destruction that this habit causes---You'll develop an animosity and a righteous indignation toward it---And that will give you the power to overcome it---Also open up to others in your fellowship and have them pray with you for deliverence from the bondage---The Lord loves you very much and wants you to be free in all things and not in bondage---I'll join the others on here in praying for you.

Happy

Sin is rebellion to GOD !
If people can trick you to believing your sinning then you are!

But nothing entering our body is sin! It might be bondage , But not sin!
Still we want to overcome everything if we can!

Rom 14:22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

Mar 7:15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
IT talking about our Words!

Not sure about this scripture?

Mat 12:20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
