Legality or Life?

@NetChaplain,
Hello Pastor, I have a interesting question.
Didn't the sacrifices, offered for the sins of the people, take away and divert the punishment for Israel when they sinned - to keep them in favor with God?

Appreciate your question Brother! Also to let you know I'm not a pastor but a nationally ordained chaplain and I use it for fellowship in the Word on the internet (about 12 years now). But thanks for the compliment.

As you will recall, "the blood of bulls and of goats" could not " take away sins" (He 10:4, 11), but did provide for Israel believers, "sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh," (flesh; physical body - Heb 9:13) which was according to God's instruction to Jewish believers in Him (Jhn 14:1). This provided forgiveness from sin's guilt but not from its "dominion" (required Christ's expiation). The phrase "take away sins" relates not to the presence and work of the sin nature, but its guilt and dominion. Thus procuring power to remove sin's guilt and reign is as the same as restraining (Rom 6:6) it or taking it away, seeing it can do nothing more than harass.

Sinning intentionally indicated unbelief and was not forgiven (Num 15:30).

Blessings!

@NetChaplain,
I noticed something else Pastor. I noticed that "sin" and "death" are never separated in scripture.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 8:2
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

@NetChaplain,
Where can I read up on scriptures that teach Jesus tooK away the penalty of sin - death, guilt, curse, etc - "without" taking away sins eternaly? If I could study this it would be food that will automatically cause me to change my view. If you can it will be a blessing.

Thanks and God Bless

A soul is under condemnation (guilt) prior to rebirth, but no longer after rebirth (Ron 4:7, 8; 8:1; Gal 3:13). There is also much in the Gospels! Not sue what you mean by "taking away sins eternally."
