How about just smiling sincerely at the person (you love the person, after all, and you appreciate the person,) and saying "Thank you."? It really is the thought that counts, and I have been thankful for gifts simply because the giver thought of me, not necessarily because it was a gift I loved, but because they were so thoughtful.
Or, how about, "Well, the green dress you tried on first looked better on you."
To be honest, I don't think the majority of lies told are about how we look in a dress or whether we like a gift or not.
Lies of any kind are wrong though. The bible is clear about that. After all, God never lies, He is Truth. And you know that other guy--he's the father of lies, I don't want anything to do with him.
