Long Hair or Sex Change?

Hi All,

Some believe that Paul is only talking to the Church at Corrinth and some believe he is talking also to us. Some feel that 'the 'head' of woman is man' means the 'source' and that Paul simply makes reference to the order of creation but so that there is no confusion, so women are not viewed as inferior, he goes on to say 'but man comes from woman'. So basically we must respect one another and the important roles we have.

Paul starts his letter with:

To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours: (1 Cor 1:2)

The apostle Paul gives devine inspired instructions to both men and women. Men also have to uncover their heads as a mark of respect (even on a cold day in a cold church in the middle of winter)!!! It's a good job guys are a tough bunch!

Now, not everyone feels the need to cover their head or uncover their head and that is their personal choice and people should not be judged in any way for that but for me I feel the need to cover my head.

Now I know that the Lord will hear my prayers whether my head is covered or not. However, it is no skin off my nose if I cover my head as a sign of respect or not. There is a lot of fashionable headwear out there so I can't really say I would look out of place or old fashioned. I take the view that whether or not Paul was addressing the women in Corinth or me, if I can personally do a little something by the way I dress to show my sincere respect for the Lord he will be pleased that I have tried to make the effort.

God Bless

 Eve

Don't Forget The Last Verse That Goes With This

1Cor. 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
1Cor. 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for [her] hair is given her for a covering.
1Cor. 11:16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

I've always heard this explained/preached,that Paul was talking about these people having divisions in the church over stuff that didn't matter! Being legalistic!

BTW,I have known of females who cannot wear long hair, because it is so thick and heavy that it gives them headaches, plus I can tell you with loss of dexterity to my left had from a ministroke that I cannot style/take care of long hair, myself. Also most women over 50 do not want long hair.
I cannot explain why most men seem to have a fetish for long hair on females,LOL! If a woman has a hubby like that,I think he should have to be her stylist,LOL! I only say this because I have heard of men telling their wives they "can't" cut their hair, just because "they" do not want them to! As far as scripture goes, however,my church goes by Paul's last verse on the subject.

1 Corinthians 11:1-16

1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Propriety in Worship
2 I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings,[a] just as I passed them on to you.

3 Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.

5 And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved.

6 If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.

7 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;

9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

10 For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.

11 In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.

12 For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.

13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,

15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.

16 If anyone wants to be contentious {argumentative} about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.

And so, Paul is saying that this is a accurate & righteous thing to do. Right?
