Dear Members,
A very nice thread, and the communication between you all is so far has been respectful and understanding. \o/
I truly hope it stays that way, when differing point of views are introduced.
You can introduce scripture and disagree with its application, but the name calling that has a tendency to follow is unnecessary.
I'll leave it to the Originator of the thread to keep this in mind, and use "move on" as a suggestion to those who would rather argue then agree to disagree.
God bless you all.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

Stewardofthemystery and I have both went through the same bad treatment by site owners and mods and members.
I always stay respectful.

@StewardoftheMystery
We do not get faith supernaturally, as many teach, but we get faith in a very human way, from reading the supernatural message.

Where does our faith come from, how do we come to believe? Our faith/belief comes from HEARING the word, see Romans 10:17. From hearing the word and being TAUGHT, Colossians 1:5, 7. From continuing in what we have been CONVINCED of, see 2 Timothy 3:14, and being PERSUADED, 2 Corinthians 5:11.
Faith is a gift…..
Romans 12:6
Having then “gifts” differing according to the grace that is “given “to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of “faith;”
1 Corinthians 12:9
To another “faith “by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1 Corinthians 13:2
And though I have “the gift” of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have “all faith, “so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is “the gift “of God:

A heart to believe, eyes to see, and ears to hear are “given” by God

Deuteronomy 29:4
Yet the Lord hath not “given” you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

Isaiah 50:4
The Lord God hath “given me” the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth “mine ear to hear”as the learned.

Ezekiel 3:10
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and “hear” with thine ears.

Not all have been “given” ears to hear and eyes to see what the Spirit is saying.

Matthew 11:15
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

G.T. Let me close with this. I believe in faith plus works, but it’s not our own. I believe in repentance of sin, and obedience, and walking in righteousness and being made free from sin. But all this is only accomplished by the power of God’s grace in Jesus Christ.

We by our “own works”cannot earn the “gifts” of God. If you had to earn them, then they would not be “gifts” but rather wages. God “gives” us everything we need to overcome the world, sin, and the evil one.

Even the faith “of” Christ, which is a gift.

Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith “of “ Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith “of”Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Ephesians 2:9
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

2 Timothy 1:9

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to “our works,”but according to his own purpose and grace, which was “given us” in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Titus 3:5
Not by works of righteousness “which we have done,” but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Peace

Before anyone can hear and then believe what they are hearing is really coming from God they must "first" decide they want to do God's will before they even know what it is.

Joh 7:16 So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
Joh 7:17 If anyone's will is to do God's will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.

Notice: you have to first decide to be willing to do God's will, and only then after that, you will know the voice of God speaking directly to you in the Gospel message.

Faith is a gift…..
Faith is an ability given to all men.

Being saved by faith means we don't have to do the purification works anymore just to belong to God, for now we only have to have faith that Jesus' blood purifies us. We no longer have to get circumcised and offer animals to sacrifice. We still have to obey we just don't have to do the works of the law anymore which are the purification/ceremonial works.

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is “the gift “of God:
Grace is that we no longer have to work at purifying ourselves anymore, now we only have to have faith that Jesus purifies us.

It doesn't mean we no longer have to obey.

It means we still have to obey we just don't have to do the purification works anymore.

These are the works of the law the Jews used to have to do:

Works of the law:

The Burnt Offering; The Grain Offering; The Fellowship Offering; The Sin Offering; The Guilt Offering; Dietary Laws; Purification After Childbirth; Cleansing From Infectious Skin Diseases; Cleansing From Mildew; Discharges Causing Uncleanness; The Day of Atonement; Rules for Priests; The Sabbath; Firstfruits; The Passover and Unleavened Bread; Feast of Weeks; Feast of Trumpets; Feast of Tabernacles; Oil and Bread Set Before The LORD; the Sabbath Year; The Year of Jubilee; Circumcision.

Now we only have to have faith that Jesus does those things for us.

Instead of the blood of lambs taking away our sins, now we only have to believe that Jesus’ shed blood on the cross is the Lamb's blood who takes away our sins once and for all.

G.T. Let me close with this. I believe in faith plus works, but it’s not our own.

Good, because faith alone IS DEAD. HOWEVER, what do you mean but it is not our own? Now you are speaking things that the Word of God doesn't speak. It sounds now like you are going to go into some man made teachings.
I believe in repentance of sin, and obedience, and walking in righteousness and being made free from sin. But all this is only accomplished by the power of God’s grace in Jesus Christ.
lol
All have the capability to believe and obey Jesus.

We by our “own works”cannot earn the “gifts” of God.
That doesn't even make sense. What you are speaking of is a way to get out of telling others the way to get saved, and that is that we have to obey Jesus and repent of our sins and call on his name.
If you had to earn them, then they would not be “gifts” but rather wages.
That is a man's teaching.

That is a man's teaching who did NOT understand the scriptures from Paul about not of works.

Paul was speaking about it no longer being the purification/ceremonial works of the law.

God “gives” us everything we need to overcome the world, sin, and the evil one.

Even the faith “of” Christ, which is a gift.
The faith of Christ????

We have to do what Christ did, and that is to obey the FATHER.

WE have to obey.

We have to get Jesus' teachings and do what he says.
Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith “of “ Jesus Christ,

The faith of Christ?

You know you are repeating Calvin and Luther, right?

The Bible tells us no one is justified by the works of the law ANYMORE.

The works of the law are these:

Paul is NOT saying we no longer have to obey Jesus and that he supernaturally makes us have faith.

NO.

Paul is saying we no longer have to do those works of the law to purify ourselves anymore by doing the purification works.

Now we only have to believe Jesus purifies us now.

We still have to obey God, we just don't have to sacrifice animals anymore and get circumcised in the flesh and adhere to a special diet and observes special days just to belong to him.
even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith “of”Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
The faith of Christ, the faith of Christ...

We have to have faith IN Christ's blood purifying us.

We have to believe and obey Jesus.

Ephesians 2:9
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
That is about the purification/ceremonial works of the law.

The Pharisees used to take credit for a person being in a covenant with God and boasting in all the foreskins they got.

Galatians 6:13 Not even those who are circumcised keep the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh.

No such thing as not having to obey so you can't be a boaster.
2 Timothy 1:9
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to “our works,”but according to his own purpose and grace, which was “given us” in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Titus 3:5
Not by works of righteousness “which we have done,” but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
The NOT OF WORKS are the not of purification/ceremonial works of the law.

We still are only saved by obey God.
You will not know true peace until you give up the teachings of mere men like Luther and Calvin followers.

Make Jesus your Teacher, and that is only done by the way he says to do it, and that is by getting his teachings and doing what he says to do.
