G.T. Let me close with this. I believe in faith plus works, but it’s not our own.
Good, because faith alone IS DEAD. HOWEVER, what do you mean but it is not our own? Now you are speaking things that the Word of God doesn't speak. It sounds now like you are going to go into some man made teachings.
I believe in repentance of sin, and obedience, and walking in righteousness and being made free from sin. But all this is only accomplished by the power of God’s grace in Jesus Christ.
lol
All have the capability to believe and obey Jesus.
We by our “own works”cannot earn the “gifts” of God.
That doesn't even make sense. What you are speaking of is a way to get out of telling others the way to get saved, and that is that we have to obey Jesus and repent of our sins and call on his name.
If you had to earn them, then they would not be “gifts” but rather wages.
That is a man's teaching.
That is a man's teaching who did NOT understand the scriptures from Paul about not of works.
Paul was speaking about it no longer being the purification/ceremonial works of the law.
God “gives” us everything we need to overcome the world, sin, and the evil one.
Even the faith “of” Christ, which is a gift.
The faith of Christ????
We have to do what Christ did, and that is to obey the FATHER.
WE have to obey.
We have to get Jesus' teachings and do what he says.
Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith “of “ Jesus Christ,
The faith of Christ?
You know you are repeating Calvin and Luther, right?
The Bible tells us no one is justified by the works of the law ANYMORE.
The works of the law are these:
The Burnt Offering; The Grain Offering; The Fellowship Offering; The Sin Offering; The Guilt Offering; Dietary Laws; Purification After Childbirth; Cleansing From Infectious Skin Diseases; Cleansing From Mildew; Discharges Causing Uncleanness; The Day of Atonement; Rules for Priests; The Sabbath; Firstfruits; The Passover and Unleavened Bread; Feast of Weeks; Feast of Trumpets; Feast of Tabernacles; Oil and Bread Set Before The LORD; the Sabbath Year; The Year of Jubilee; Circumcision.
Paul is NOT saying we no longer have to obey Jesus and that he supernaturally makes us have faith.
NO.
Paul is saying we no longer have to do those works of the law to purify ourselves anymore by doing the purification works.
Now we only have to believe Jesus purifies us now.
We still have to obey God, we just don't have to sacrifice animals anymore and get circumcised in the flesh and adhere to a special diet and observes special days just to belong to him.
even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith “of”Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
The faith of Christ, the faith of Christ...
We have to have faith IN Christ's blood purifying us.
We have to believe and obey Jesus.
Ephesians 2:9
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
That is about the purification/ceremonial works of the law.
The Pharisees used to take credit for a person being in a covenant with God and boasting in all the foreskins they got.
Galatians 6:13 Not even those who are circumcised keep the law, yet
they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh.
No such thing as not having to obey so you can't be a boaster.
2 Timothy 1:9
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to “our works,”but according to his own purpose and grace, which was “given us” in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Titus 3:5
Not by works of righteousness “which we have done,” but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
The NOT OF WORKS are the not of purification/ceremonial works of the law.
We still are only saved by obey God.
You will not know true peace until you give up the teachings of mere men like Luther and Calvin followers.
Make Jesus your Teacher, and that is only done by the way he says to do it, and that is by getting his teachings and doing what he says to do.
