Marriage becoming obsolete

My alternative title for this thread is: Unchristlike "Christian compassion" paves the way to Hell.

According to a new poll by Pew Research Center, nearly 4 in 10 Americans consider marriage to be "obsolete." In 1960, 68% of 20-somethings were married. In 2008, that had fallen to 26%.

Let me guess, of the 26% who are married, half of them will become divorced.

This is really sad. I still believe in the institute of marriage. I think people have polluted it and lost sight of it's meaning, though.

Those of us willing to use our God-given ability to reason.

Two minutes after your post SpiritLedEd asked you for some examples of unChristlike compassion - why have you ignored his request? That seems a bit rude. Does rudeness and disrespect add pavement to that road to hell?

I mentioned the elephant in the room, which is easy enough for anyone to see, who wishes to look.

Not sure what you are getting at, but I suspect you view marriage as something "Obsolete"??

Yes. I believe marriage benefits the master bedroom and no other room in the house. I have protested my parents' marriage for 30 years and I still have to deal with a person who sees me as a lesser human.

I will never marry, for I know what hell it can bring some children.

How about that, you're riding the elephant in the room.

Because I'm I respect Christian morality and traditional morality, I will never view marriage as obsolete.

As Christians we are completely aware of the 'falling away' mentioned in scripture. "Thess:2.6.

The "falling away" (opos-ta-see) "Apostasy" is a falling away from the biblical ideal. A falling away from biblical truth.

In the Christian life the 'church'.. 'prayer'.. 'the fellowship of believers' are God things, and so is marriage. So is "home, and family life".

'Wedlock' has never been the idea of men

Early in time God said "that it was not good for man to be alone......"Gen 2:18. The great man Paul said that "it is better to marry than burn" 1Cor7:9. Jesus said Mtt.19:5. The word 'cleave' there, means to stick like glue.

Marriage is biblical.

We should not be surprised that the profligate society of today, without God and without hope, pursue a path of debauchery, and depravity. Falling the base way of animal life 'food' 'rest' and 'sex'

Does that verse give a date for the falling away? Must the bad be welcomed, even if it is inevitable?

Marriage has been the standard of all societies, regardless of religious background. But, marriage has been on the decline primarily in western Christian-dominated countries, no small thanks to Christian fatalism and pseudo-compassion.

For example, Japan is blessed by not having a significant influence by "Christians" in its culture. Japan is a very modern and prosperous country. Japan is highly integrated into global affairs. But, only 2% of babies there are born out-of-wedlock in Japan vs. nearly 50% in the US.

May God save the world from Christians.

Seeing how there is still no response to SLE's request I agree with you Doc.

As a pastor friend of mine says, "Not all marriages are made in heaven." Many times boys and girls/men and women marry because the woman got pregnant and they wanted the affair to look legitimate.

There are other causes of bad marriages as well, but that doesn't make the institution of marriage faulty. Does the shoddy work of some homebuilders make building houses wrong? Its wrong to condemn the institution of marriage because of the abuses/misuses wrought by some.

You profess to be a Christian and saved in 1995, but you are doing nothing but insulting Christians. Go judge the man in the mirror.

A large % of those who do not get married make that choice because it helps them sponge of the Government at others expense.

How sad LJ You deny yourself the greatest joy possible short of Jesus Himself because you are afraid of being selfish? Well, stop selfishness and get on with living.

Its self that causes trouble in marriage, its self that causes problems in our relationships of all types. Its self that gets in the way of our relationship with Jesus too.
And its self that stops you from getting fear out of your life. Selfishness is from the father of lies. Just like fear is
