New book - The shack

Hello Trucker,

Thank you for your review on the book “The Shack”.

I read the Shack and was set back at First by the fact God was portrayed as a women. But soon I saw something that astounded me. The book showed me the complete yielding of the trinity to each other. It showed a continuous ebb and flow as each part of the trinity did their job yielding to each other to accomplish the will of God in the lives of humans. I enjoyed the book, did not agree with all of it, but I walked away marveling at the Grace of God, the genuine concern God has for his man and that he will go to great lengths to reach out to people both good and bad. Did anyone catch how concerned God was for the serial killer? He knew if he continued on the path he was, it would result in eternal damnation.

Now that is the Love of God.

As a matter of fact, I did read the book “So you don't want to go to Church anymore” -- online. I enjoyed the book so much that I purchased a copy for my library in hopes in reading it again. It has been a while so it wouldn’t be fair to give it a review since it has been a few years. But what I do remember is that the story itself set in motion a yearning for a deeper relationship with my Heavenly father.

For those who may be interested in knowing what the book is about here is a synopsis of the book from Chapters -- “Jake Colsen, an overworked and disillusioned pastor, happens into a stranger who bears an uncanny resemblance (in manner) to the apostle John. A number of encounters with John as well as a family crisis lead Jake to a new understanding of what his life should be like: one filled with faith bolstered by a steady, close relationship with the God of the universe. Facing his own disappointment with Christianity, Jake must forsake the habits that have made his faith rote and rediscover the love that captured his heart when he first believed.”

Another book I do recommend. God bless!

Best wishes,
Snowrose

Hello Bambi

I totally understand where you are coming from. At these present days, it is hard to find a good book (or even movies) and it is great to have such wonderful friends who will recommend (or not recommend) certain titles.

I have a friend and her husband who read the book, "The Shack" Her husband was a Pastor. They both found the book, unbiblical. Now knowing them as I do I believe they have sound judgment and due to their recommendations I will not be reading "The Shack".

It has taken me a while to find my favourite authors – Dee Henderson, Ted Dekker, John & Lisa Bevere, Beth Moore, Wayne Jacobsen ... and now I count William P. Young (the author of “The shack”) among them.

I've always enjoy a good book but since I find it difficult to find a good author, I tend to be on the lookout for good books. Before I read any book, I look up their synopsis and reviews (if I can find them) to see what they are all about and if I would be interested. Lately I have taken up looking at the bestseller lists of ECPA (Evangelical Christian Publishers Association) & CBA (Christian Booksellers Association) to find new books / authors. So far only some of them have caught my interest. :embarasse

Nevertheless – thank you so much for you contribution in this thread. God bless!

Best wishes,
Snowrose

My favorite Christian Fictional writers are Linda Lee Chaikin and Liz Curtis Higgs. Non-Fictional writer has been Elisabeth Elliot.

this book has some interesting (and even helpful) ways of communicating the nature and love of God, but it is contains some serious unbiblical ideas as well. i would only recommend this book to those who know God and the bible VERY well - people who won't be misled by the unbiblical aspects of the book.
