Old Fashion Hymns ?

Hymns? I must add "In Christ alone" in that list. It's so wonderful and full of doctrine.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless Babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save

'Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From a life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Could ever pluck me from His hand
'Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I stand

I remember hearing about a missionary who used to work in England long ago who would take popular drinking songs played in pubs and put Christian lyrics to them. It seemed to work really well.

I'll Praise my maker while I've breath. And when my voice is lost in Death....Praise shall employ my nobler power's
My days of praise shall ne'er be past....While life and thought, and being last..........
Or immortaltality endures........etc.

One of my all time favorites is " Just As I Am"

Just As I am without one plea
but that thy blood was shed for me
and that thou biddist me come to
Thee, Oh Lamb Of God
I come I come

It is wonderful to know that just as we are we can come before our Savior and He is there and that no matter what struggles or trials we go through it is Him and His peace that will guide and bring us through.

I have recently come to love the old hymns. My current favorites are, "It is Well With My Soul", "How Great Thou Art", "Great is Thy Faithfulness", "Come Thou Fountain of Every Blessing" and, "A Mighty Fortress is Our God".
