Old Testament Reference:

Malachi 3:1 “… Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come…”

New Testament Fulfilment

Matthew 21:12-16 Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there….

Rulers will take council against him

Old Testament Reference:

Psalm 2:1, 2 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against his Anointed One.

New Testament Fulfilment

Matthew 12:14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.


Matthew 26:3, 4 Then the chief priests and the elders… plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him.


Matthew 26:47 … Judas… arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people.

He will be a “stone of stumbling” to the Jews


Old Testament Reference:

Isaiah 8:14 … and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

New Testament Fulfilment

Romans 9:31-33Israel… stumbled over the “stumbling-stone.” As it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

Upon his coming, the deaf hear, the blind see

Old Testament Reference:


Isaiah 29:18 In that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll, and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see.

Isaiah 35:5 Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped.

New Testament Fulfilment

Matthew 11:5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.

Old Testament Reference:


Exodus 12:46 It must be eaten inside one house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones.

Numbers 9:12 They must not leave any of it till morning or break any of its bones. When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.

John 19:31-36… But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs….These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.”

Psalm 27:12 Do not hand me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence.

Matthew 26:60 … many false witnesses came forward….


Mark 14:55-61… Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him….

Psalm 22:16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.

Matthew 27:35 … they had crucified him…

John 20:25-29… “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands… and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.”… Then he said “… Reach out your hand and put it into my side.”…

Soldiers will cast lots for his coat

Old Testament Reference:

Psalm 22:18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

New Testament Fulfilment

John 19:23, 24 … This garment was seamless… “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”

Isaiah 50:6 I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.

Matthew 26:67 Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him.


Matthew 27:26-30… They spat on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.

Luke 23:18 …“Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”

Old Testament Reference:

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

New Testament Fulfilment

Matthew 27:12 When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.


Luke 23:9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.

New Testament Fulfilment

Matthew 26:14-16 Then one of the Twelve… the one called Judas Iscariot… went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?”…


Matthew 26:23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.”
