Peircings

Just a little History.

In Jewish Culture, Slaves of peoples houses often decided to stay with the Family they were serving after their time in slavery was up. When the slave decided to stay on and serve his Master, the Master would pierce his ear.

Ex 21
2"If you buy (B)a Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years; but on the seventh he shall go out as a free man without payment.

3"If he comes alone, he shall go out alone; if he is the husband of a wife, then his wife shall go out with him.

4"If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall go out alone.

5"But (C)if the slave plainly says, 'I love my master, my wife and my children; I will not go out as a free man,'

6then his master shall bring him to [a]God, then he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him permanently.

The Word in greek for this type of voluntary slave is Doulos. This is the Word Paul uses to describe Himself at the beginning of epistles.

Romans 1:1
1Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—

Phil 1:1
1Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,
To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers[a] and deacons:

Some have speculated that because of this relationship, Paul himself had one of His ears pierced as an act of committing himself to Jesus.

Also, the place I got the name. =)

Well lets see what the word says about this..

The second part of this scripture speaks against jewelery

1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

and here is another

1Pe 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward [adorning] of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

Now this one tells us to come out from among them.
That tells me that i Should Not ....act or look like them

2Cr 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,

I like them

:thumbs_up I have piercings in my belly, they are cool and did not hurt much. I would loke one done in my nose.

I guess it depends where. There are some places (which I will not mention) that people shouldn't pierce and that REALLY is self mutalation. I find some piercings look nice. I don't mind belly rings, a nose stud and ears, but anywhere else I don't even find it attractive.

God bless

I have peircings but I dont think its bad. If I wouldn't have had them before I was saved I most likely wouldn't have gotten them.

would Jesus have body peircings?
this is the question to ask yourself..
we are suppost to be Christ like and act as Jesus would.
I don't think Jesus would have a stud put in his nose,or in his brow.
Really I don't think he would have one as all.

I don't know which looks funnier......a stud in a persons nose....or the bandaid the resturant make them wear to cover it up...

I know how you people feel about the I am a 40 year old male and by the time i was 20-22 i had 4 earrings 3 in the left and 1 in the right.
And the only reason i had mine is because i thought they made me look cool

Don't let the devil pull the blinds over your eyes to the point you think wrong is alright, because he will do it in a heartbeat...............

ok so i just found something in the bible yeah it says in Psalm 40 verse 6

"but my ears you have peirced" talking to god i think. So they did have peircings and i guess it is all good then

i've only got my ears pierced, and i don't think there is anything wrong with them, or the way they look, but i personally won't get any more piercings, but i think they look great on other people1
Stay Real

Well I had my tongue and eyebrow pierced. I don't have them now, just because they made me look rough and I'm not a rough person. I do have 2 frog tattoos. What do you all think of tattoos? Natashia

i think the devil is misguiding you on this one Heather-Anne, so it will lead you astray

Psa 40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required....kjv.

I had both my ears pierced when I was a baby, so I didn't really get a say in it-but I don't mind and I like them. Overall i'm not too bothered about piercings, I probably won't get anymore. I'm not much of a fan of tattoos though, but I'm not against them if you like that kind of thing.

This thread is about what each of you want. Not about what Christ wants.

"deny yourself, follow him"

Then you dont need to ask these questions.

Do you think that people set out from the start to be covered in peircings and tattoos?

No they started with one. Then it goes from there.

My ears well thats ok, then well my belly button wont be that bad, well i got 3 peicings i may have another, oh i want my nose done next

The key word being next. It never ends.

For the record i have 7 peircings in my ears. I have 3 tattoos. I speak from experience. I dont wear jewellery anymore. I wish I had none.

Please follow Christ and not yourselves as his opinion is always perfect. Ours is not.

God Bless.

Leviticus 19:28

" 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

and also

1 corinthians 6:19

19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own

I'm not sure if this pertains to peircing or not. I have my ears pierced, though.

I don't think peircing is a problem. You can get your stomach or face or ear Pierced(which is all the same, you peirce your body, it doesn't matter where). I have my ear peired on a third place, at the top. The funniest part is that I used to judge people who peirce them selves, but when I do it, it doesn't really change who you are, it is just some object hanging on your body.
But if a person getting peirced affects another christians walk with Christ, it is wrong- this is found in Coronthians(spelling!!)

I am really sorry that you have peircing and tatoos you don't want on your body but it doesn't really matter. You getting peirced or not doesnot change you. You wear jewlery on it or show your tatoos, still you remain "you".
I partly agree to what you are saying. When ever you focus less on how you look (peircing and tatoos), you focus more on Jesus. But the things on you don't matter, they are just there. They have nothing to do with who you are.
And I think Jesus sees more than the peircings and the tatoos on us
God bless
Jesus's always

I dont have a huge prob with it, i have 3 piercings in each ear and a navel piercing, but I don't go showing around to anyone (like some of the girls in my school) My sister has about 13-14 piercings and a tattoo, (shes 16 and isnt a christian) - I don't like her tounge piercing but no one else minds really. Lots of people at my church have nose piercings, eyebrow piercings and almost everyone has ear piercings and some have their navel pierced, but I guess if you don't want it anymore, you can always take it out and let the hole close up again. :thumbs_up

God Bless,

Christians are not to imitate the extravagance of those who deck themselves, wether in clothing or jewels, merely to attract admiration and attention to themselves. [Gal 5:26] ...being desirous of vainglory. The extensive wardrobe and jewelry of Hebrew women is suggested by the catalogue given in Isa 3:18-24: anklets, cauls, crescents, pendants, bracelets, mufflers, headtires, ankle chains, sashes, perfume-boxes, amulets, rings, nose-jewels, festival robes, mantles, shawls, satchels, hand-mirrors, fine linen, turbans, veils. (all which are fine in themselves) But the elaborateness of this ornamentation throws light on the apostle Peter's counsel to Christian women not to make their focus, the adorning of the external, and the putting on of showy apparel, but rather to have the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit.

As saints of God, then, holy and dearly loved, let your behaviour be marked by pity and mercy, kind feeling, a low opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, and a power of undergoing all things;(BBE)
Col 3:12

Hope this helps answer your question.
