Try now and let me know if the scroll bars are to the left now.
Thanks.

Excellent.
They could probably be a little smaller for aesthetic reasons only.

I spent hours trying to put a similar thing together via elements etc and had a battle working with your code etc, so I am glad you sorted it. I am rather rusty with it all but it was fun trying. I'll have a peek and see what you did.

I'm interested in knowing what others are seeing.
Looking forward to the next updates.

Bless you ....><>

I created two buttons in MSpaint, even added a little shadow .I have put the total search results back to the center where it was before. On the buttons I have first and last, instead of scroll up or down, or top or bottom.

Does the spacing fit on your screen now?

Yes, much better.
I think the search results total is better in the middle, too.

Yea I was thinking they were kinda big.

I'm working on the back button now in the read page. Should be done in like 10 mins :).

The Back Button woks fine. So much easier to navigate, now.

Enjoy your week.

Thanks.

I'm glad I just didn't rush to release it and decided to get some feedback.
Wow, I'm loving the improvements that are being made. You are helping me make
this website so much better.

I made the arrow buttons smaller and I added the up and down arrows to the read page.
Enjoy your week as well my brother.

I'm liking this collaboration indeed.

In the screen shot below you will see the up and down and back buttons on the left.

Brother WNL, notice also the top of the screenshot, central, where the mouse pointer is, where is says Genesis Chapter 1, can this scroll down a little more. It is a little bit too high on the page for the eye. I see on the actual page, there is plenty of space to go a bit further either to the top of that frame or to the top of that block/table/frame
down a little.png
that it sits in.

See here where the mouse pointer is. Somewhere between the top of it and the bottom, either frame.

where to scroll.png

Another adjustment I recommend is on the search results page, when scrolled to the top (first) that is good, but perhaps if it would go further to allow for another search if desired?
As follows (see mouse pointer)

Very good suggestions. I have just updated the code and implemented all of them.
You know I'm going to send out some acknowledgements to the TJ community and you also
for all the help. What do you want to be known as when I reference you?

Still on my to-do list for the website.

***Review video format, other than mp4

***add scroll for reference page with alphabet indexes

***Finish adding red letter to new testament books

***Finish adding search links to reference page

**Exact name searches from reference page***

I changed the format from mp4 to .mov see if it will play for you in the browser that has issues before.

Thanks.

Brother, I do not want any recognition, please but it would make me happy for the community here at TalkJesus to be acknowledged. (EDIT: I see you have done this already, bless you WNL) I have enjoyed helping and if that is a gift from the Lord, to help, then all praise and glory and honour must be to Him alone, amen.

There are a few more suggestions on the way.

I changed the format from mp4 to .mov see if it will play for you in the browser that has issues before.

Thanks.

It is not working on my usual browser but that could be my settings. I might have a look at them but I will try a couple of distro's first.

It would be good if others with Chrome and other browsers and Windows and Apple could give a little feedback..... hint , hint ! I could load chrome up but would rather not. I might be able to access an apple but only slim chances there, so any members reading this, if you could check out a few things, it would be a great help.

Brother, can i ask which KJV you are using? My guess is the Updated King James Version (UKJV). If so you will need to add an acknowledgement to it. I can point you to the required info, if that is what it is.... unless of course it is your software?
I am concerned that you have stated it to be KJV but it is not 'the' KJV.

I'll keep testing and get back with any thoughts for you to add to your list!

Bless you and keep up the good work ....><>

For the browser that has problems playing the videos, do you have a sense of what type of
videos will play on it. Have you ran a test to see?

Thanks again for all the help.

I'm going to go back and proof read the home page with the intro and acknowledgements. Right now it is just a draft
and likely have some errors or issues with content syntax on in my message. After I get everything done I'll go back and
polish it so it flows. :).

Are you by chance in Australia?

Greetings,

presently running LXPup (a Puppy Linux Distro) using Light Browser - a lightweight Firefox, and the video is fine. Again, it's Firefox.

The problem is with the Opera Browser I am using with Linux Mint MATE. Not that either are in error. Both are very good and can't really fault them as alternatives to other OS's and browsers.
On my set up it appears that maybe i need a certain plug-in that i haven't yet yet installed or something.
I don't usually worry about not seeing some videos. I shall keep investigating only for the audience that might be using a similar OS as me.

So far, the video is playable with all Firefox browsers. I think i have another Distro on hand that is set to use Opera. If i can remember which one it is....

This is why I was after feedback from others who are probably using either Windows or Apple. Brad has his hands full, blessings to him, but he may be back on board soon.
Is anyone else using Opera?

I'll change distro's now and take it from there. More recommendations are on their way, soon, Lord be willing.

Bless you ....><>

Greetings again,

now on Peppermint (Linux). Chromium Browser. All works fine.

In the Men's names section (Reference), after scrolling through a quite a few, to get back to the top, one needs to scroll back manually. Can you put a "FIRST' & 'LAST' button on that page, too? It's a very long page!
In fact, all the Reference pages could do with it, except the Category of Bible Books which is only a short page.

On the read page(s), when you use the FIRST button, it scrolls well (very well) but stops with the Read button. Can you make it higher so an alternative search can be made without needing to scroll further up?

Another fix for you:
When i searched for justice, one of the results is Psalm 119:121. Can you set it so that it goes to the highlighted verse? If not, one must scroll down to it. Not a real problem but something I noticed a few days ago and forgot to mention. Handy if wanting to read the verse with the surrounding verses in context.

I'll keep going now and try to find that Opera problem!

Bless you ....><>

I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to mine oppressors. Psalm 119:121

Greetings again WNL,

I have gone through about everything possible to sort out the video problem. Lots of fun in Terminal (Command line). Also I have searched the web and from what I gather, it is an Opera 'problem' possibly through the stronghold in the business from Google and Chrome.
So please don't worry about it. I also tried Ubuntu and Watt OS but as they both run Firefox, everything worked well.
Perhaps one day i will have to switch to Firefox or Chrome... and perhaps not. In the meantime, I shall stick with what I have and continue to work your Bible Search site as hard as i can to see if it breaks!

Grace and peace to you Brother ....><>

Thanks for the updates. I have added the suggestions to my to-do list of programming fixes. Very good points. I noticed that too earlier.

Thanks for testing that out. Are you saying that your browser does not play any videos or just the video on my page?
If your Opera browser does play videos, I'm trying to see what file types it plays, for example, .avi, .mov, .mp4, . mpg, etc

Take a look at these sites for example and let me know which file formats you can view

HTML5 tests - video

MP4 H.264 Video Test

I want to include as many people as possible.

Thanks again.

I actually misunderstood what you meant about the post with Psalms and the search link. I thought you were talking about when searching, but you meant
when clicking and going to the read page. I was reading too fast. That is a cool feature that you mention. You have great ideas. I just implemented that now.

I'm going to try to finish updating the reference page with the links for the men i the Bible and work out some of the funky situations where it will search for pieces of the name
instead of the exact name. That might take me two to three days to do, then I'll go back over the list for the other details. The names is probably going be the longest in terms of time
it takes so I want to knock that out. The rest are real easy fixes that won't take too long.

Once again, great suggestion with the search going straight to the highlighted text, I like it. It should be working by the time you ready this post.

-WNL

Looks like the other one was super easy to update so I just did that now with scrolling to the top on the Read page to allow for other searches of books of the Bible.

Here is my TO-DO list for now. Getting ready to continue the links, about to put in 6 hours of work, lets see how far I get with that .

***Finish adding search links to reference page (may take a few days)

**Exact name searches***

***Add top link to List of men in the Bible

***add scroll for reference page with alphabet indexes

***Finish adding red letter to new testament books

Wow, I thank God for the energy and the strength. I got alot done in just under 3 hours.

Everything in green below on my list is now completed. I added the alphabet links to the reference page and the appropriate
scroll buttons. Currently I haven't done the error checking, which means names that have multiple names will come up blank in the
search and names that are 4 letters may include other non related words in the search. I need to do another pass another day to
tweak that. That is the "Exact name search" on the list below. But for now the linking mechanism code for most and placeholder
code for some is in place. I also fixed it so that when you click on the link from the search page it allows you to get to the page where you
it scrolls down to the search for you already instead of you having to manually scroll initially.

***Finish adding search links to reference page (may take a few days)(done)

***Add top link to List of men in the Bible(done)

***add scroll for reference page with alphabet indexes (done)

**Exact name searches***

***Finish adding red letter to new testament books

HTML5 tests - video is outdated looking at the Firefox results and the versions tested.

This site
The HTML5 test - How well does your browser support HTML5?
rendered these results for my browser which could be indicative of Opera in General:

You are using Opera 45.0 on Linux
video opera.png

my opera test audio.png

There are quite a few other results which if need be I can show you but for the video, this is much the same as other sites I have looked at.
Ogg is fairly well accepted all round but I don't know about Safari (Apple). I'll see what i can find out.

I'm glad you're taking the approach to reach as many as possible.
------------------------------------------

I copied some Scripture earlier and when attempting to paste it on a reply here at TalkJesus it wouldn't Paste via my pop up menu on right click of the mouse. It did paste however on the 'Paste as plain text' option which i usually use anyway..

I'll try it again from different pages/results. I thought it was odd so that's why I mention it. Any ideas? Looking at the results from the above site regarding my Browser it might be something to do with Opera but i shall explore it further.

Bless you ....><>

ps... I keep meaning to mention that the FIRST & LAST buttons could be slightly opaque/transparent and maybe in one of the border (Table) colours (eg #3B4C42 - rgb(59, 76, 66 ) instead of white background. Try the opaque adjustment first, when you get time. It will make them stand out less and yet still be clearly visible for use. At present they are a bit bold especially being with the white background. I think the transparency / opaqueness adjustment would be OK.
Try to keep the number of different colours down rather than add more colours. More colours has a proven negative effect especially on first impression on websites even the stark coloured ones. Your choice is easy on the eye and anyone serious about reading and studying would be pleased with what you have chosen. ....><>
