Sex is mentioned quite a bit in the Bible. Both in the old testament and the new testament.

The very first command God gave man, was "go forth and multiply". ( Gen 1:22; ) He wasn't talking about math class here. He said "populate the earth" or "fill the earth".
Almost the entire book of Solomon is about sexual desire, some of it is almost pornographic in a way.

Hebrews 13:4; talks about the "marriage bed". Obviously God wants many (most?) of us to have children. The Bible says children are a blessing.
Sex can be a good thing, it's even sanctioned by God.

But there are a lot of rules around sex in the Bible. There are words and phrases like fornication, adultery, sexual immorality, and harlotry. In fact the Bible has a lot more verses about who
we shouldn't sleep with, than who we should sleep with.

The word adultery is in the Bible 33 times. What is adultery? It's simply sleeping with someone else's husband or wife. If you yourself are married and you sleep with someone other
than your husband or wife it's adultery. Adultery is never condoned in the Bible. Do not commit adultery is one of the 10 commandments.
Jesus talks about adultery in Matt 5:27-32; Matt 19:9; He says under the new covenant, you can even commit adultery in your heart by lusting after someone who isn't your spouse.
1 Cor 6:9; and Hebrews 13:4; talk about God's response to adulterers.

So OK that's adultery. What's next?

Beastiality, now this seems like an unlikely subject to talk about on a Christian website, but it's in the Bible.
Leviticus 18:32; Lev 20:15-16; Exod 22:19; say we can't have sex with animals. Disgusting yes, but still in the Bible for a reason.

Ok fine, next subject please....

Homosexuality, There have been plenty of threads on this here on TalkJesus over the years.

Lev 18:22; Lev 20:13; 1Cor 6:9; 1Tim 1:10; Rom 1:26-27; and almost the entire chapter of Genesis 19 talk about how God views homosexuality.
So OK, we can't have sex with people who are the same sex as ourselves.

Women during menstruation (does the Bible really mention this?) yes it does.

Lev 15:24; Lev 15:33; and Lev 20:18; are a few of the verses that talk about this. I didn't see anything in the New Testament about this particular subject.

It's amazing what you can find in the Bible.

You can't sleep with certain relatives. Especially close blood relatives. But also you can't sleep with your parents spouse.

Lev 20:11; Deut 27:20-22; 1Cor 5:1; Lev 20:12; Lev 20:20; Deut 27:22-23;

If you are divorced from someone, and they have slept with someone else after you divorced them, you shouldn't have sex with them.

Deut 24:1-4;

A word used over 35 in the King James is "fornication".
The word "fornicators" is mentioned 3 times in the New Testament.
Some Bibles simply replace this with "sexual immorality".

So what exactly is fornication. The word usually translated here is pornos - it's where the word pornography comes from.
Websters and other define fornication as such...

Fornication is sex between two people who aren't married to each other.

We aren't supposed to have sex with people we aren't married to.

Acts 15:20; But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
Acts 15:29; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
Rom 1:29; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
1Cor 5:1; It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.
1Cor 6:13; Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
1Cor 7:2; Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
1Cor 10:8; Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
2Cor 12:21; And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
Gal 5:19; Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Eph 5:3; But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
Col 3:5; Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
1Thes 4:3; For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

There are several more verses about this, but I think this is enough to get the point across.

Deut 22:28; "If a man finds a girl who is a virgin, who is not engaged, and seizes her and lies with her and they are discovered,
Deut 22:29; then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall become his wife because he has violated her; he cannot divorce her all his days.

John 4:18; for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly."

Obviously having sex with someone doesn't make you married to them. It was a practice to marry virgins in the old testament. Sex came later, after you were married.

Isa 62:5; For as a young man marries a virgin, So your sons will marry you; And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, So your God will rejoice over you.

1Cor 6:9; Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

Even Gentiles aren't supposed to commit fornication.

Acts 21:25; "But concerning the Gentiles who have believed, we wrote, having decided that they should abstain from meat sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication."

1Cor 6:18; Flee fornication. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
The NLT puts it like this...
1Cor 6:18; Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.

... to be continued ...

This passage here covers a of things about marriage, but this thread isn't about marriage, it's about sex, so I'll stick to those verses.

1Cor 7:2; But because of immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband.
1Cor 7:3; The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband.
1Cor 7:4; The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.
1Cor 7:5; Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Married people are supposed to "fulfill (their) duty" to each other. They don't even have authority over their own bodies, your spouse does!
Stop depraving each other.

Well you don't understand.. my husband/wife is a lazy slob, who's gotten overweight and lazy, and disrepects me, and talks bad about me, and they don't deserve to have sex with me.

Really? Then why did you marry them? The Bible says husbands, love our wives. It says Wives respect your husbands, it doesn't put any conditions on these statements.
It doesn't say love or respect them "IF" they meet your standards... it just says do it. Whether you think they deserve it or not.
We say we shouldn't judge people, but do we judge our spouses? We say we should love people unconditionally, but do we love our spouses unconditionally?

"because of immoralities, each man is to have his own wife". Have you ever stopped to consider what those immoralities are here? They lust after other men/women,
they look at pornography, they commit adultery, they read "soft-porn" romance novels, they watch sexualized anime cartoons, the list goes on....
How much of this could be stopped, if husbands and wives were more giving sexually to each other?

A word of warning here for men. This doesn't mean you can force your wife to have sex with you every hour of every day. Notice it says "by agreement for a time"
Both of you need to be in agreement about this, it's not about what you want, or what she wants... it's about coming together in agreement.

... to be continued ...

sex outside of marriage is going to be one of the biggest things that send people to hell IMO, hardly anyone even knows its a sin !!! I never did until I was about 40 plus years old and went to church my whole life.

scares me to death for a lot of people I know, and I have made it very clear to them what God says but they simply do not understand

The Bible uses the word lust in several verses. Lust doesn't always have to with sex, but often it does.
Technically the word "lust" simply means wanting something bad enough that you are willing to sin in order to get it.

Jas 1:14; But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
Jas 1:15; Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

Ezek 23:11; "Now her sister Oholibah saw this, yet she was more corrupt in her lust than she, and her harlotries were more than the harlotries of her sister.
Matt 5:28; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Now it's not a sin to look at a woman and think she is beautiful. (You can become obsessed, which is another story)
But when you start thinking, I would be willing to sin in order to have sex with this woman (or man) and commit adultery, fornication, prostitution with this person, then it is lust.

The Bible also talks about burning with "passion" and "burning with desire".

Prov 14:30; A tranquil heart is life to the body, But passion is rottenness to the bones.
Jer 2:24; A wild donkey accustomed to the wilderness, That sniffs the wind in her passion. In the time of her heat who can turn her away? All who seek her will not become weary; In her month they will find her.
1Cor 7:9; But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
1Thes 4:5; not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

1st Corinthians 7 above says, it is better to marry than to burn with passion. Sex in marriage is OK. Sex outside of marriage isn't. If sex is a problem for you, it's better to get married.
Don't use parts of your own body to satisfy impurity, passion and desire. (Besides are you lusting in your thoughts when you do this?)

Col 3:5; Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

Gal 5:16; But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

If you're taking care of your fleshly desires in a sinful way, you are NOT walking by the Spirit.

We've talked about adultery, fornication, beastiality, homosexuality, and incest so far, but there is also masturbation.

Matt 5:27; "You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY';
Matt 5:28; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matt 5:29; "If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
Matt 5:30; "If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.

This passage starts off with "shall not commit adultery", then it talks about "lusting" for someone.
Then it goes on to say, if your eye offends you, tear it out... if your right hand offends you, tear it off. What are your eyes looking at? What are you doing with your hands?
It is better to get rid of these things "than for your whole body to burn in hell".

1Cor 7:9; But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

Do you lack self-control?

1Tim 5:11; But refuse to put younger widows on the list, for when they feel sensual desires in disregard of Christ, they want to get married,
1Tim 5:14; Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, bear children, keep house, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach;
1Tim 5:15; for some have already turned aside to follow Satan.

Have you felt sensual desires "in disregard of" Jesus? Then get married.
Because of sexual desires, some people are willing to disregard Jesus and turn "aside to follow Satan".
That's pretty strong language, but those aren't my words, they are Pauls.

1Pet 4:3; For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.

In the Bible if your brother died, you were supposed to marry his widow, have children and carry on the family line.

Gen 38:8; Then Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother."
Gen 38:9; Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother's wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother.
Gen 38:10; But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; so He took his life also.

Onan had already had sex with his brothers widow (he went into his brothers wife) but he didn't complete the act. He "spilled his semen on the ground".
The Lord was so displeased with this, that He took his life. We need to be very careful with how we perform sex and who we perform it with.

Gen 2:24; For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.
Matt 19:5; and said, 'FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH'?
Matt 19:6; "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."
Mark 10:8; AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Eph 5:31; FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.

This term "one flesh" has multiple connotations, I can't go into all of them here, but for example you and your husband become "one flesh" to the point that when of you hurts
both of you are hurting. When your hand hurts, the rest of your body knows it. When your spouse hurts, you should be feeling it.
But in terms of sex, what this means is... they will make new life together. A new living person (God creates them, but.. ) this new life is you and your spouse together
no longer two people, no longer two fleshes, but one flesh.

Now you may be thinking, will my sexual sins only affect me, it's just between me and God. Wrong. Your sins affect the entire church.

1Cor 6:15; Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be!
1Cor 6:16; Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, "THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH."

1Cor 12:25; so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
1Cor 12:26; And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
1Cor 12:27; Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it.

1Cor 5:11; But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
1Cor 5:12; For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?
1Cor 5:13; But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES.

Even non-Christian marriage counselors and psychiatrists have noticed that when you start having thoughts about someone else, and thinking about them sexually, it affects how you think about your spouse.
You don't see them in the same way, you don't treat them the same way, and it adversely affects your marriage in ways you don't even see.
There have been several studies that link physical abuse to illicit sex. People who were never physically abusive started being physically abusive after they started having affairs and non-sanctioned sex.
(This happens to both men and women).

God created sex . totally agree with all the above Scriptures . For married folks the Songs of Solomon is the positive side of God's creation.

God created many good things. And they were "all" good. Sex was just one of them. Just because humans have corrupted it, doesnt mean sex itself is bad. For people who love (real love), respect, and are committed to each other, its a beautiful thing, with many beautiful results. God knew that without marriage, it would become corrupted. It can be corrupted even in a marriage, but its most likely to "become" true within marriage.

Agreed.

I work as a mental health therapist and unfortunately many people do not see porn as cheating.
I've heard woman say they are ok with their husbands watching porn because it is not cheating (some not most).
Or men not understanding how if you are loyal and committed to your wife you porn is literally and technically cheating.

I would say they are blinded, I do not know for sure, but I have given them the word in a bible with the pages tagged and highlighted, and then went over it with them, and the response was something along the lines of --Me and God have a understanding.-- I also have received responses like Sex is to good for it to be sin, God created it, and marriage just messes it up.

2 Corinthians 4:4
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

the response was something along the lines of --Me and God have a understanding.

I have heard this also, whenever people live sinful lives. Obviously these people don't know God.
This is idol worship, they have made "a god" out to be what they want him to be.

Yes I find the more I question people about their security in salvation,, because 98% of the people I talk to all say the believe and are saved, it seems they have there own version of God, and they are good to go. They are sincere I believe but they are wrong. And I find that if I am in a hurry and want to leave, just Bring up Jesus and what the bible really says, and people all of the sudden are ready to depart LOL.

Thanks for sharing.

One thing that I will say is that it is a slippery slope.
People start dabbling in sin, just a little bit.
And slowly their conscious starts to be numb to the rebuke or the voice of the Holy Spirit.
They start excusing sin, little by little, and eventually move from a stage where they were actively
engaged in an internal debate to argue for why sin is ok, or not that bad, to a point of false rest
where they actually believe it is ok and no longer give resistance.

sex outside of marriage is going to be one of the biggest things that send people to hell IMO, hardly anyone even knows its a sin !!! I never did until I was about 40 plus years old and went to church my whole life.

scares me to death for a lot of people I know, and I have made it very clear to them what God says but they simply do not understand
You got me laughing, you didnt know until you was forty plus years and been going to church all your life. Don't feel bad a couple of years ago i was talking to my 1st cousin, his step father was a "Methodist pastor" my 1st cousin is 90 years old, i could not believe the words coming out of his mouth, and always talking about church, and how many women he went to bed with, and the women minsters who was sleepling around with. And how many women his minister step father slept with and the lanugage and enticement that the female church women would do behind their husbands. And at 90, and have no idea, him and his old friends, still commiting fornication and somtimes paying for it, with "Social Security" checks!

And those old people will get angry with you if you try or. Show them that those who do such thing is in danger of going to Hell! They get mad, and scream that they are saved and been going to church all their lives, baptize, accepted Jesus as a child. A faithful church member. And friends with a lot of pastors. Who does the same things they do!

I keep quiet, around them, to many of those christians, they will twist my words around. I am out number, even in my own household, wife's friends, children friends, church members, pastors, they grow horns, and they runs in packs! In this neighborhood, in all races, If you say anything about "hell" that is considered hate speech. For at least the last 5- 6 years,
Theses poeple stick together! They will nail you to the cross upside down:eyes:. Lie on you slander you, when they get through with you, you will be so confuse, you will wonder are you delusional, and wonder have someone put some "cool Aid" in your water! I scared of the church women and men. I have been all over these united states of america. It seem to me i was more safer in a bar or saloon or at a truckstop than a church on a Sunday morning. And the older ones where more dangerous than the younger ones. My mother and aunts had a name for them. I cannot recall what they called them. But it was referring to a young man was no match those old women. You dont have those protecting mothers today like the days of yesterday. They were few but, they protected young men in the church.

(Proverbs 31: 3).
"Do not give your strength to women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings"

Sex outside of marriage is the most candy coated deceptive sin that entraps people in its lure.
And it is so questionable.
How can love and romance be wrong? How can anything so sensual, loving and pleasurable be bad?

It even traps Christians and turns their thinking and reasoning away from the Lord.
I've been down that pathway in the past too many times and its a slippery slope downwards.

Praise the Lord for Jesus who forgives all sins when we turn to Him or as Christians turn back to Him.

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name.
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

Psalm 103:1-4

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

Psalm 103:1-4

The Bible is so true, when it says: "Stolen waters are sweet":p "Lips of am Adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil" [ and the devil is near and when he cast that "Star Dust" in the AIR and slap those "Spiritual Handcuffs"on you and lock those hobbles around around your ankles" you can call on the Lord all you want, you are on your own! The word of GOD have never Lied. It said: "FLEE", in other words, RUN! you can hang around their if you want too!
Speaking to you "Child of GOD"! The Bible has also said:

"the way of an Eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the mist of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid" [when he puts his hands on her].

Here is the killer, when GOD turns the tide. you are going to surely know there is a "GOD in Heaven" and no one is going to have to tell you nothing!

You are going to find out what "Love and GODLY fear"really is, and they are inseparable! It will put a new meaning to the word, "HOLY" and "Sanctified"

Like God told Israel, when i get through with you; "You are going to know I Am GOD"!:eyes: If you haven't never been there, you have no idea what i am talking about! And I am just as happy and content as i want to be, with suffering..

Apparently some of the "sex rules" weren't just for humans, but angels also.

Jude 1:6; And angels who did not keep their own domain but abandoned their proper dwelling place, these He has kept in eternal restraints under darkness for the judgment of the great day,
Jude 1:7; just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these angels indulged in sexual perversion and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.

Most scholars believe this is referring to Genesis 6:2; when "the sons of God" had sex with "the daughters of men" and made them their wives.
But even if it isn't talking about the Genesis 6 event, the angels still "indulged in sexual perversion" of some type with someone, and "went after strange flesh" (presumably human women?)

Gen 6:1; Now it came about, when mankind began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them,
Gen 6:2; that the sons of God saw that the daughters of mankind were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.
Gen 6:3; Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not remain with man forever, because he is also flesh; nevertheless his days shall be 120 years.”
Gen 6:4; The Giants were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of mankind, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

Now obviously it wasn't a sin for "the sons of men" to marry human women, so then why was it a sin for "the sons of god"?

.....

The Bible mentions whoredoms and prostitutions. What's the difference? One does it for free, the other charges money. Either way the Bible speaks against it. ( Ezek 16:33; )

Proverbs 6:26; Prov 7:10; Prov 23:27; and Prov 29:3; talk about how harlots affect men.

It is not by accident that God compares the betrayals of Israel, as a harlot. Israel as a nation is called a harlot (or whor.. ) 60 times in the Bible.
Whenever they went after other gods and idols, and started following the religious practices of other countries god calls them harlots.

Exod 34:15-16; Lev 17:7; Lev 20:5; Numb 25:1; Deut 31:16; Jdgs 2:17; Jdgs 8:27; Jdgs 8:33; 1Chron 5:25; 2Chron 21:11; Isa 1:21; etc.... (dozens more)

Men aren't supposed to marry prostitues. - Lev 21:7; Lev 21:14;

Now while these verses aren't really specifically about sex. They talk about how God views people who betray Him. They are like a wife who has taken another lover. - Ezek 6:9; Ezek 16:26-30;

Isa 23:17-18; Jer 2:20; Jer 3:1-9; etc... (dozens more)

OK, so how does all this relate to sex?

This sword cuts both ways... rejecting God is like being a harlot.
Having illicit sex is rejecting God.

1Thes 4:3; For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality;
1Thes 4:4; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
1Thes 4:5; not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;
1Thes 4:6; and that no one violate the rights and take advantage of his brother or sister in the matter, because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you previously and solemnly warned you.
1Thes 4:7; For God has not called us for impurity, but in sanctification.
1Thes 4:8; Therefore, the one who rejects this is not rejecting man, but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you.
