Should christians support Blasphemy

In every movie it seems like, its okay to curse with Jesus name in it, my stomach turns and I lose interest. They mock christianity and God every chance they get. And we laugh, " Hey its only a movie "

Hollywood takes no interest in our values or morals.
Should we continue giving them more money to produce more filth ?

I never understood my youth leaders, when they told us to flee from every appearance of evil.
I thought they were being lame, trying to spoil our fun.
But now I realise that my exposure to these movies have desensitize my view of entertainment. If it didnt have some murderous serial killer its not entertaining.
It was had for me to break away from Hollywood entertainment.

Should we pay $14. to support Blasphemy.
Should we pay $30 to take blasphemy in our homes. (DVDs)

Should we ?

Definitely not, using the Lords name in vain is unacceptable.

I rarely look at the TV, never go to a movie and don't read the newspaper. It makes me negative and it is not good for my spiritual growth. I have enough other problems and I can't afford to be pulled down when I'm trying to rise in faith.

I find blasphemy very disturbing and even in our daily lives you will find people using the name of Jesus as a swear word. I'm guilty when I say we as Christians don't stand up for Jesus and take on the people who is guilty of doing this.

The answer to your question - No No and No!

Blessings!

I agree that the answer should be "no". Actually a big emphatic "NO". That being said, it's easier to say than to follow. Today's entertainment culture has evolved into one which has an underlying need to demean the name of our Lord as a way to evoke laughter. A very sad commentary on our world today...

No way. I hate when people use God's name in vain and just take His Holy name and throw it around with everyday words. His name is to praised and nothing else! Christians if you hear someone blaspheming start up a conversation about God with that person. Tell them why we shouldn't abuse God's name and give them the gospel of Christ.

I also agree the answer should be no. In the harry potter thread discussed for a few weeks now, I posted the below which I believe really came from the Holy Spirit directly. Its undeniable truth.

I would like to ask this question again to all those who are "entertained" by this movie which glorifies sorcery in fictional plot (yet keep in mind sorcery/witchcraft itself is not fictional at all, so no excuses for fiction movies).

Is it ok to be entertained by violent movies as well where blood is shed through murder for the sake of entertaining people with "heroes" like Blade, 300, Trainspotting, etc? The Scripture opposes this as much as it opposes sorcery.

So do you follow Jesus completely or do you sway around for your entertainment's sake? How many times do we have to repeat Scripture before it cuts to your heart (and mind) like the double edged Sword that it is?

Since when does it matter how old and wise you are to know between right and wrong that it becomes ok to still watch evil filled movies? Does it make any logical sense to you? So you won't let your children watch it yet its ok for you to watch this? I call that hypocrisy. Try to find Scripture that says its ok for you to soak in 'fiction' or non-fiction movies that glorify evil just because your old enough and not a child anymore.

If it is not good, it is not from GOD period.

Galatians 5:19-21

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[a] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,[b] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Matthew 6:21-23

The Lamp of the Body

22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness2 Kings 17:16-18

16 So they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, made for themselves a molded image and two calves, made a wooden image and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. 17 And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger. 18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone.

WWJD?
(What Would Jesus Do)?

Would you imagine Jesus Christ going to the movies to watch anything that He teaches against including violence, cussing, adultery, fornication, harming the temple [body, with drugs], etc?

Would you imagine Jesus Christ giving these movies or songs a good rating/review?

Now, remind yourself that we are to walk in Spirit and imitate Christ in all things we do, and glorify GOD.

We're here for simple discussion about this movie. We're not here to judge nor condemn others. We're here with food for thought, using Scripture alone and hopefully no one will use opinions instead.

1 Corinthians 11:1
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

Galatians 5:16-17
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

Amen Chad, that is from the Holy Spirit ,
I thank God for using you as an instrument to bring this message to us.

The Lamp of the Body

22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness2

I have decided to follow Jesus, the world behind me the cross before me.
NO turning Back
NO turning Back

Heavenly Father I thank you for the word received today, bless my brothers and sisters. Protect our eyes from the wicked things of this world, purify our hearts, renew our minds. Cleanse us from the filth we once entertained.
Give us the desire to be Holy for You are Holy. Guide our feet to the path of righteousness.
Amen.

Should christians support Blasphemy ?
Should we?

Christians oppose blasphemey.

I switch channels whenever the announcement is given that the the next programme uses strong language. Whatever the programme may be about I can manage without it, and I do not need it.

Society is in a mess. But as Christians we can be upbeat because the Lord is on our side. In the O.T. it is recorded that "the stars in their courses fought against Sisera" We do not have to worry about the fight, but we do have to stand up for the truth. As we do this our God can bring to bare such forces to support us, which are unknown to 'modern man' ....so called.

...Christians Support Blasphemy?

It's easy to sit in front of this computer and click "no", but, will I click "no" in my mind the next time I choose a movie or a TV program to watch?

"So I find this law at work; When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Ro 5:21-25)

yeah, i agree with you...
but what's bugging me is what do we do when we watch the movie with people who are not christians... do we still have the courage to leave the room, or change the program, telling our friends that we do not want to watch a movie that mocks God?

I love your statement, ever since I've wrote this , its impossible for me to watch anything compromising. All I watch is Gospel Channel, DayStar or the Word network, Tbn depending on the program. Old sitcoms like Bill cosby, 7 heaven (sometimes ), and I watch Hallmark Channel that shows family movies.

I would be a hypocrite, to post something here and not practice it.
I love the simpsons but I had to stop watching it before I made this thread.
Its just a cartoon but for some reason it started making me sick.

But God is good, he delievered me from secular music some years ago,
and this past summer from Simpsons, might sound silly but I used to
rush home from work just to see what bart was up to.

SLE, asked a great question that everyone who said no, needs to look at.

Yes we should have the courage to move or say something, because we will be making a stand, and also this is your chance to minister to them.
The Holy Spirit would guide you when to talk and what to say.

I agree very much that even when many of us will click 'no' here in this forum, we will most probably return to the entertainment world with renewed desire, albeit having conscious about what we had 'clicked'/chose.

I have to admit that this will probably happen to me. However, this doesn't mean that I should despair and get stressed-out. I believe there will be a best time for me to stop what is bad for me from entertainment, provided that I constantly seek the Lord and pray to Him for my spiritual health and for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that I may have 'enough will' to stop the desire for entertainment that contains blasphemy, or any kind of evil deeds.

Satan will continue to attack us with these entertainments, and we should maintain a strong faith, that we can put our complete trust in Jesus, and He will deliver us from all evil. Ultimately, we do not need any of such entertainment as much as we feel that we do.

On the issue of rejecting to watch a movie with your friends, I agree with rizen1. Let the holy spirit guide you in what you say, and don't forget to pray before that!

Of course, this will not happen overnight easily. Savor the process of God sanctifying you and finally, putting light in you that you may see better- because that is a close walk with God!

Finally, looking from the perspective of your friends may help. And if your friends are overpowering you, I suggest you take a step back. Consider your relationship with 1) God and 2) your friends. Which one has to be more important and why? What does God wants you to do? Open the bible and find the answer! 'Seek and ye shall find..' (Matthew 7:7, Luke 11:9)

The best time for saying "no" is now. If I've been watching a TV program regularly for any length of time, I know the content of that program, I know the moral messages that are being promoted and I know the producer's attitude toward God. These things are blatantly obvious in the program's characters, scripts. and cinematography.

A believer is to live their life to the glory of God, just as Christ did while living in a world full of sinners constantly committing or supporting sin in some form. The thread is very good. What is hard for me though is can I support someone who supports blasphemy or any sin. In the Hollywood example can I support the computer chip company that support making those kind of computer graphics. Can I support a record company whose employees are sinners even if some are saved by grace? Can I support a computer company who produces a product that is ungodly? Is this considered condoning their action by buying their products? A very tough question.

Scott you just gave me brain freeze...lol

We can not scan everything.
When I buy milk from a deli, I dont know what the owner does with the profits.
He could be running a child prostitution ring for all I know.

The thing is I dont know, so I'm not accountable to how he uses that money. So in the eyes of God I'm not condoning his actions. If I find out and still buy stuff from him, then I'm sending the message that I dont care about those kids, I just want my milk.

If you know the truth about something, do what is right ( being led by the Spirit )if the situation is more complicated discernment is needed.

If it doesnt affect our spiritual walk, then it doesnt matter...

Its a mind blowing question. When I first started as a retail store employee I was asked in the interview that because I am a Christian could work for a company that sold alcohol? I asked her response that if the issue is Christianity should you be hiring Christians who would be working for a company that caters to pre-marital sex and substance abuse? She never thought of it that way. In the Old Testament there was the sacrifice for the unknown sin. Praise Jesus, He became that sacrifice for all my sins known and unknown.

I agree completely with all members being against blasphemy, yet I want to use this to illustrate the wonderful ablities of our God and how He can make everything work for His glory.

Pslam 76:10 says "Surely the wrath of man shall praise You"

Through Paul, The Holy Spirit says in Phillippians 1:18 "What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice".

The Lord Jesus said in Matthew 12:36,37 "But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

We do not know now, only eternity will tell, how many people associated with the production, review, transmission, viewing etc. of these blasphemous programs have been moved to seek the truth about the 'name above all names' that they have so casually used.

These programs have also served to take the name of the Saviour to people who may never get to hear it otherwise and to places where nobody may go with the gospel.

Whether or not they ever respond positively to the name of God, they will not be able to deny hearing and knowing His name on the day of judgement, and will be constrained to give an account of how they used it and what they did with it!

Surely even the wrath of man shall praise God.

But again, please don't misunderstand me. This is in no way to justify or condone the production and propogation of blasphemous material, only an attempt to show that our God is not powerless or limited against such things; He can actually use even the negative for positive results.

The purpose of this thread was to discussion the blasphemous material being produce.
And us being able to detect what we should and should not entertain.

Its easy for us to look at the producers and writers, but our battle is not against flesh and blood. We are called to pray for those that are lost, so they will see how their work pollutes our generation.

So before I continue this thread, lets remember them in Pray.
Lord touch their hearts and let your Holy Spirit move in their lives, remove the blindfolds so they may see their ways. Lord bless their families and their homes. Most importantly bless them.

Now lets proceed, should christians support blasphemy ?
Should we ?

i agree with a huge emphatic no. i get totally ashamed that a fellow human being would treat christ our lord , our king of kings that way.
