Tattoos or not for the believer

I can understand how a tattoo on the forehead would remind you that verse, but it's what they get on their forehead and their motivation for it. If it is 666, yes of course that's for that purpose. But if they get a cross or a flower, something not related to that and not to honor Satan/Antichrist, it's not the same. It's 2 totally seperate things. They're not being required to put on on themselves to buy food, etc. I can understand using the other verse about Pagans more than that to support your opinion. It's a personal decision.
Earlier when you said that you wouldn't have to defend yourself because you don't have piercings or tattoos...none of us can say that we don't do stuff to our bodies that we shouldn't. It all depends on your motivation and your reason for getting the tattoo. God knows the depth of your heart and why you're getting it. It's between that person and God.

I have gotten tired of putting on make-up, and had considered having
permanent make-up done. Although I ask myself quite often, "What would Jesus do," I hadn't thought about the question when it came to this. My only question had been "would God say I am wrong by doing this?" Thank all of you for helping me. I will stay the way God made me (and save money in the meantime). I would really regret it now if I did. God bless each and every one of you!

Wingedgrace the people is getting the tattoos on their foreheads because they are selling that part of their body for money. Money buys food, drugs or whatever they want to buy. Read the scripture verse again.
But this will be a debate that will go on forever and ever and I am not going to entertain this anymore. I did ask Brother Chad if I may post a link here and I did get the permission for it from him today 17 March 2007 my time.

Here is that link read it and then, hopefully your ideas about tattoos will change. POPULARITY SURGE OF MULTIPLE BODY PIERCINGS AND TATTOOS OFFER POWERFUL EVIDENCE OUR SOCIETY HAS SLIPPED DOWN THE SLIPPERY SLOPE OF SATANISM.

When I was a teenager in the 50’s we were brought up believing that tattoo’s were only for people that work with their hands or have not much education. Today, well known people, celebrities, and sportsman even well known Christians have tattoo’s. Although Lev 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD, this is done by Christians. It looks like tattoo’s have taken the world by storm. If you as a Christian have tattoo’s, are you doomed, or unholy for the rest of your life, or doesn’t it matter under the new covenant. Maybe it is not such a big issue, but it keeps me wondering.
Be Blessed

I am not in favour of tatoo's. I cannot recall any such mentioned in scripture. I remember that Jezebel, is recorded to have been a good painter, she painted her face. The dogs ate her.

The body is beautiful as it stands. It does not need any such
enhancement. As I see it. I may not be correct!!

That's a great way to put it brother! GOD's work is perfect in its creation by default so why should we mess with it? One thing that bothers me so much is when people foolishly try to cover their sin with excuses left and right, thinking they can even mock GOD this way

It's definitley a difference of opinion. I think people(including me) pick and choose what to be passionate about in the bible. Like I said, we all do things to our bodies that aren't neccessarily "good" for them, but all the focus seems to be on this one. I just don't get it.

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding you sister, but how do we exactly "choose what to be passionate in the Bible"? How do we apply "opinions" when it comes to the Word of GOD? I humbly disagree, in due respect to His Word. As believers who believe in His Word, His Son Jesus, do we have a passion for GOD's Word entirely instead of portions?

What I mean by that is that people are not as passionate on certain things in the Bible. For example, it also refers to touching pigskin is a abomination, but we don't turn away football. That's just one. Again, I am not looking for an argument, I just disagree, so please don't take what I say the wrong way, brothers.
Noone really responded to my post about us doing things to our bodies everyday that is bad for them

- eat junk food that destroy our bodies, organs(heart & stomachs)
- drive too fast
- drink energy drinks that are not good for us
- take diet pills
If the body is a temple, we need to stop EVERYTHING that is not from good andeat only fruits and veggies. You know what I mean?

What I'm saying is, I believe everything I read in the Bible. But I also believe that people also interpret it differently. If someone is going to be passionate about piercings and earrings, then EVERYONE who has their ears pierced has sinned? So God is looking down on that? I disagree. It's their intention. The Pagans meant it for something else. A persons personal choice for that is between them and God. If their intentions are wrong, then God will judge them for that.

You hit the nail on the head! I could not have said that better

So as we can see tattoos is not the only concern GOD has. It includes everything else that harms our body and even our reputation (how we dress, talk and our actions).

*whew* I'm glad that wasn't mumbo jumbo. lol
I think certain tattoos are definitley a concern to God. But I know people who have been able to witness to someone because they asked about their tattoo if it is Christian. I think God smiles on that. If it glorifies Him, I think he finds it beautiful. That's how I intrepret it.
I am tired from my short gardening stint today, so lunchtime. Everyone have a blessed weekend!

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, [which is] new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Revelation 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

Strive to get this mark, the rest are just vain...

God bless

Amen and Amen. Good post Fellowservant. Thank you for posting this scripture, it might cause a little paradigm shift.

You can strive to get that mark and still have marks that glorify the Lord on your earthly body. Our bodies will be renewed in heaven. Us girls won't even need makeup. :)

Make up now that is another thing. I do not wear make up now. I see no need to wear it and I look good for my age too.

Fellowservant is quite right in what he says I totally agree with him.

Let the Holy Spirit lead us to do the right things for our bodies and convict of the wrong ways.

God bless  :rainbow: :rose:

Context

Leviticus was referring rather specifically to the magical "warding" tatoos of the pagan peoples that lived near the Hebrews back then, and the ritual scarification "for the dead" was a part of necromancy. Those practices are known and have come down to modern man via the translations of tablets found in the library of Nineveh and elsewhere. I don't recommend you read them unless both your faith and your stomach can handle such research -- it's pretty awful stuff but dangerously tempting for all the power it promises.

Anyway, you have the usual arguments of Old vs. New Covenant with respect to following this particular bit of the Law.

Personally I think you should generally avoid tatoos not because of any part of the Law, but because of the usual purposes for tatoos themselves. Let's look at all the general ways tatoos have been used in history.

1) They were used to mark prisoners
2) They were used to mark slaves
3) They were used to mark pagan warriors and priests
4) They were used as pagan magical symbols
5) They were used to denote membership in a group.
6) They were used to mark one as a criminal
7) They were used to mark prostitutes
8) They were used to mark a cult of assassins
9) They were used to indicate tribe (virtually insperable from #4 due to the rites involved)

I'd say #5 is probably the least dangerous of any of these reasons...but still ... Which of these reasons glorifies God?

The idea of a tatoo as nothing but a bit of art is a very modern concept. Even then, it wouldn't hurt to carefully examine whether you were getting the tatoo for the sake of vanity or pride.

I'm not saying a tatoo is evil by default, but you need to think *very* carefully about why you are getting one before you get it.

Also, while I could *maybe* see myself getting a military tatoo or a club tatoo or something, I'd be more hesitant to get a "Christian" tatoo.

I'd be afraid that getting that symbol just so people could see it would be a lot like praying to be seen praying. I think if my conduct is in harmony with God, it will be pretty obvious that I'm Christian without any need for me to color my skin with some symbol.

I don't wear jewelry, piercing which I do have in one ear but I did not mean too because I was not a Christian in that time but It may have heal away so yea umm.

I don't believed in wearing tattoos, lol must be sound like a Pentecostal from those Spanish churches, hahahahahahahahahahaha.

My aunt said that if your clean from the inside then it have to be on the outside because the temple of your body belongs to God

So really we need too look different from the world not like the world so they can see us different from them

In no way, shape or form are tattoos smiled on by God for the Word clearly says that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and we must take care of it. If someone came into your house and started spraypainting your walls, how would you feel? The Holy Spirit isn't happy when people come in and color His house either.

Aside from the spiritual side, let's just take into consideration the law of gravity and although that cute little butterfly looks good now, in about 30 years it'll look like a gigantic moth!

Does this include coloring your hair, wearing make-up, wearing earrings, wearing designer label clothing that may be associated with evil doings and wearing certain hair styles?

well i myself have one .. i got it a while back and it is of my husbands name. BILL .. i had it done after we got married as kinda way to show him he was the only physical man there will ever be in my life with the exseptions of our boys that is ....was that wrong of me to do?

In my personal opinion, yes you were wrong. I don't think a Christian should have tatoos, piercings, dye your hair, really make any permanent modifications to your body. However, my opinion doesn't really mean all that much. It's just my personal view, and if someone else holds a different view that is fine.

However the reasons I hold these views are might be of intrest. The Bible says we are supposed to seperate ourselves from the world.
2 Corinthians 6:17
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

We are supposed to be different. Many people will say the bible means we are supposed to act different, and I believe that to be true, but I think our appearance should also reflect the difference that is in our hearts.

1 Timothy 2:9 says:
In like manner also, that women should adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobermindedness, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly array,

While this verse specifically speaks to women, I think it applies to all Christians. As a Christian we are soldiers for Christ. Everything we do should be to glorify God. When we dye our hair, when we pierce our ears, and when we get tatoos, we are glorifying ourselves.

1 Corinthians 6:20
For ye are bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

Our bodies aren't even our own! How can we go and make altercations to something that isn't even ours?

It's no secret that tatoos and piercings are more and more popular. But is it a coincidence that they are becoming more and more popular while people are getting more and more selfish? I don't think it is. Peoples concern for others is at an all time low.

Glorify God in all you do. If you think getting a tatoo, even a so called Christian tatoo is fine...*sigh*...that is entirely up to you. Just remember, your body is a loaner, and you have to give it back some day. How would you feel if you created something, lent it to someone and it came back full of holes and covered in marks because the person you lent it to thought it looked better that way? Think about it....
