The sin of knowledge Genesis 2:9 The sin of Simplicity and Ignorance

The tree of knowledge of good and evil....Until Adam ate of the tree, he had NO knowledge of evil at all...When Adam ate the fruit, he was suddenly aware of the evil in the world...and was completely unprepared to deal with it...It was never Gods intent that Adam, and through him, we should know anything at all about evil, and the war in heaven...We did not need to know.
It wasnt the fruit that was the problem. Not even the awareness that Adam was naked. It was that Adam disobeyed God. It was the disobedience that caused the sin

facts or fiction :mask:
1 Timothy 2:14 (NKJV) And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived fell into transgression.

2 Corinthians 11:3 (NKJV) But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Adam was responcible for her

I can not see knowledge in itself as a sin , but i can see the misuse of knowledge as becoming sinful
The tree did not give knowledge. That's a misunderstanding that comes from a misinformed translation. The tree gave the power to determine Good and Evil (that's what gods do). Who told Adam that he was naked? Adam did. Adam told himself.

It is not the "Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil"... It is the "Tree of the Establishing of Good and Evil."

Since the fall, all of mankind establishes what he or she believes to be Good and Evil, usurping the sovereignty of God.

'And the times of this ignorance God winked at;
but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Because He hath appointed a day,
in the which He will judge the world in righteousness
by that man whom He hath ordained;
whereof He hath given assurance unto all men,
in that He hath raised Him from the dead.'
(Act 17:30)

Hello there, @TheWordIsOne,

I found your OP thought provoking, and the verses you chose interesting: for which I thank you. Though I do not believe that knowledge in itself is sin, or that simplicity and ignorance are sinful in themselves either. Neither do the latter excuse wrong doing,

* The knowledge of good and evil which Adam and Eve received brought with it responsibility, and made them subject to judgment and death. Before this they were in a state of innocence.

* In Romans 2:18-21, Paul shows that ignorance cannot be used as an excuse for not seeking after God, for the very heavens declare the knowledge of God.

* Paul's testimony:-

'And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me,
for that He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious:
but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. '
(1 Tim. 1:12-15)

* Peter tells the People of Israel:-

'The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob,
the God of our fathers, hath glorified His Son Jesus;
whom ye delivered up, and denied Him in the presence of Pilate,
when he was determined to let him go.
But ye denied the Holy One and the Just,
and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. ... ' (v.15)
' ... And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.(v.17)
But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all His prophets,
that Christ should suffer, He hath so fulfilled.
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out,
when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things,
which God hath spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.'
(Act 3:13-15 & 17-21)

* Paul tells the people of Athens:-

' Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God,
we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Because He hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness
by That Man whom He hath ordained;
whereof He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised Him from the dead.'
(Act 17:29-31)

* These are just a few evidences from Scripture regarding man's ignorance and God's abundant mercy and grace.

Praise His Name!

Thank you

Yes it was...and it opened his eyes to sin...sin comes with a consequence (the curse) which comes from sin, not from God.

I don't think the tree had anything to do with anything...except to implement Adams free will...If all things were allowed there would be no choice for Adam to make. God made all his creatures to have free will, but if there was no choice to make, what use is free will?

'And the times of this ignorance God winked at;
Does anyone, besides myself, find this translation a bit offensive? God winked at ignorance... wink wink....nudge nudge....Don't you agree that the word "overlooked" is better... Winked, to me, sends a message that it's not ok but through sneakiness or dishonesty we can get away with something.. Just my choice I guess

thank you I try :love:

Adam was responcible for her

Genesis 3:8-13 (NKJV) And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?"

Genesis 3: 10 So he said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, and I hid myself."
And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?"

Genesis 3: 12 Then the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate."
And the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

Adman blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent, lession here is they did it, and instead of taking responsibility for his own action he blamed Eve
He said she said

Read Ezekiel 18:1 - 32
Everyone is responsible for his or her action (sin)

Hmmm Maybe Adam and Eve were democrats

Some people love bagpipes. Other people love country music. Where is "Sin" even involved with these free will choices?
