the term "God Fearing"

I am not exactly sure if this is the correct place to post this. But I never really understood the term "God Fearing" it always left a bad taste in my mouth because it kind of sounds like God is being described as some harsh dictator/punisher that we have to be afraid of instead of the loving and forgiving God that I know. What do you all think of this word ? What does it even really mean ?
Here....There are more than one definition for fear...take the first one to be in the realm of terror, fear of a shark in the water, fear of the monster in the dark, fear you feel on a roller coaster.... and there is some other kind of fear...the fear of the Lord...
Proverbs 9:10 is a good example. This fear is defined as 'a reverential respect' for the Lord..You give Him respect, honor...This fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom... If you were to fear the Lord as in the first definition, terror, it would do you no good at all...God does not want you to be afraid of Him....If you fear Him you will hate Him...Human nature you know...But if you reverentially respect Him, you cannot help but love Him.

This is the absolute correct place.

There was a time when "fearing" equated to being afraid of God.
In ancient times, especially with the Jews, who were pretty much a devout people, with regard to God, most were definitely frightenend of Him!

An example was found in Exodus. Moses seeing God in a buring bush , wanted more, he wanted to see all of God's glory and God essentially said , " No Man could see His face and live.

That has to do with His holiness more than anything, a subject for another time.

Needless to say, the Jew of the times took this to heart and further perpetrated the the fear of God thing. NOT that God is not perfect in every way and demands our utmost attention, He has been known to be pretty tough down through the ages but, Jesus changed all that.

I think , it is safe to say that the war is over, now, most references to "fearing" God is more like a healthy respect and admiration rather than being afraid of!

That doesn't mean that some, some day , some might experience the full wrath of the all Omnipotent God, but if you are a Believer, I think you are pretty safe now!

To know God is to have a healthy respect and administration for, like, regardless what happens, your own Father.

God-fearing.
φοβούμενος (phoboumenos)
Verb - Present Participle Middle or Passive - Nominative Masculine Singular
Strong's Greek 5399: From phobos; to frighten, i.e. to be alarmed; by analogy, = to be in awe of, i.e. Revere.

It is all about context, verb-present participle Middle or Passive- Nominative Masculine Singular.

And God's word of a proper "Translation" are never deceiving. The "Adversary" is the deceiver. When you read the WORD of GOD. The Holy Ghost will lead you into the right direction into the "Truth", If the "Truth" is what you are looking for. So says, the BIBLE not me.

Now if you are serious and willing to be a guide to others. You should have a set of "ISBE" , "Vines Dictionary of New Testament Greek Words", A Brown's and Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon and "Thayer's Greek- English Lexicon, Hard copies and not internet half truths. By having these tools and learning how to use them, you will understand why they are needful. and they will keep you from being a False teacher of "Biblical Truths". and keep you from being a "Instrument" of "Plagiarism".

For the "WORD of GOD" is the most serious writings that any "True son of GOD " may encounter in this day and age. And God has provide this era and Generation, the most advance, tools that any , true Child of GOD may dissect with surgical expertise the unadulterated "TRUTH". Not meaning "paste and post" of someone else work and calling that studying. For the devil himself uses the internet Himself and guide a many of christians into its pathway, knowing the laziness of some, who still has the aroma of sin, and deception, those who have not yet yielded to "the way" of the cross.

The internet is like any other tool, it is a good thing and a bad thing, it carry's "porn" and it is a "Instrument " for thieves, liars, and false teachers, and false so called prophets. No different from the "family Automobile" that will drive you to church, to day care, the children's Hospital, and grocery store, and Wednesday Night after work before you get home to The "Shady Rest Motel" or to the "Conner parking Lot Spot" at the Convenience Store, Rendezvous date. before you arrive to place you lay down at night and close your eyes..

GOD's Word does not Deceive, The "Adversary" does. When the word of God say something it means it, It means exactly what it says, the Problem is people don't what to believe it, and they are skillful in explaining it away! The word is "trust" what you have read and lean not upon your own understanding. "TRUST" the "WORD of GOD"

My ears are so tired of these, half truths, that is destroying our families and friends in the ways of "Salvation" with all of this "Whitewash" "prosperity" taught truths. But the bible says, that these days would come, and "The Way" of truth will be evil spoken of.:pensive:

Somebody has to say it!

One day the BOOKS will be Open. and we will have plenty of time to read everybody's carless words we have spoken. and at another point, the bible has also said: " and among those books everything is recorded according to their works. I might not exactly understand how all these take place, but if it said it, I believe these events will take place.:eyes:

And the ones, that says. I don't fear GOD, I reverence Him, Is going to be the 1st ones that runs, like they think they can hide.:eyes:
How can i fear what i Love, God

How can i fear what i Love, God
That is nothing new, a lot of people do not fear GOD, and some of us do. No big deal.

John 14:23
Jesus replied, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
John 15:10
If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and remain in His love.
1 John 2:3
By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments.
1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome,

Moses so feared his knees started to shake.
And Jesus said:
Luke 12:5
But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after you have been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him!
Hebrews 10:31

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

There are many who do not fear GOD. Example:
"Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray at all times and not lose heart: In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared GOD nor respected men."

"And there and many men and women who fear man, but do not fear GOD:" but perfect love casts out fear! But yet they claim they love GOD But they Fear a man and don't fear GOD. But The "sons of God" do fear their Father.
But JESUS has said: "But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after you have been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear Him!"

All these "Nominal Christians" walking around fearing their :"Husbands", fearing their wives. Fearing Robbers, scared of their own shadows.
Ignoring the "Commandments of Jesus"! Luke 12: 5 is indicative.

Fear
φοβήθητε (phobēthēte)
Verb - Aorist Imperative Passive - 2nd Person Plural
Strong's Greek 5399: From phobos; to frighten, i.e. to be alarmed; by analogy, to be in awe of, i.e. Revere.

Content, context of the subject matter, and Language syntax. goes a long way. and "exegesis" is always preferred when dealing with the Biblical text. whether implicit or explicit.

PS. you said: " How can i fear what i Love, God"

answer: You fear, you just don't know it yet! it is called delayed action.:eyes:
I feared my daddy and love him at the same time! and that is not a "paradox"!:eyes:

Paradox: "a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth."

I see my God who I believe in, is different from yours. A lot more, matter of fact a whole lot more different from the GOD you believe in. Maybe yours is the True GOD. But the One I believe in is a lot bigger more powerful and HE is To Be Feared, For HIs Holiness is enough and HIs presence is enough to destroy the whole "Cosmos"!

"Admiration" means: respect and warm approval. something regraded as impressive or worthy of respect. " I don't know that GOD"! LOL

I know the GOD of "Abraham, Isaac and Jacob", I know the GOD, that Heaven and earth fled from His presence.
The GOD i know leaves me "speechless" and humble past all understanding. and Broken and undone! His Majesty

"Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled, and no place was found for them."

Many will go to hell, for there are many who do not fear The Almighty GOD. Because they do not know HIM, they might know of HIM, But Him they do not know, if They did, they would fear HIM. For He is someone to be Feared! We are commanded not to fear MEN but we are commanded to Fear GOD. These are the words of Jesus and we need not a Interpreter., For our GOD is A Consuming FIRE and HIs wrath waxes HOT!.

So do you Fear man or do you fear GOD!
A lot of Christian women claims they fear men, and not GOD! That is Backwoods Theology.
