I have been in churches that believe both ways. Both have a distorted idea of what the other thinks. Pieces of sermons are taken out and misinterpreted. To think that the word of faith people never say they are sick or seek medicial attention is a misconception. They go to the alter for prayer and tell the elders what they are in need of. They go to doctors and take medicine. I believe it is God's will for us to be healed, because that is what the Word says. I know weather God heals me or not. I will serve Him all the days of my life. I have been healed and there were times when i wasn't. God knows all things. He is Lord. I think we need to focus more on what we agree on, rather than what we disagree on. Because people who have been healed ,you will never change their mind. God says to live by the word of our testimony. He has healed me on more than one occasion, He delivered my husband from drugs and acoholism. And he brought my father back to life after Pennsyvania Hosptial pronouned him brain dead,all documented. By the way my parents are catholic and all of my sisters are of different churches. None of us believe everything the same way but we all came together for my father and after 4 months in the hosptial my father walked out of there on his own. I serve a Mighty God. The night the doctors told us to start to think about removing life support after being in a coma for 15 days. I said to the doctor, we have given you a chance , now lets give God a chance. He told me you can have all the faith in world but I am a sciencetist and your father is brain dead. Let me tell you 3 days later he awoke out of that coma. 3 months later on October 15,1992 my father came home from the hospital. He is still alive today drives a car, babysits his grandchildrern. He is still catholic and i am still serving the Lord. I serve a mighty God. So let's praise for who He is and not what man debates He is.

Joel Osteen is someone who I highly look up to (as a human, under Jesus Christ our Savior of course). He is always smiling, happy, energetic, humble, TRUTHFUL and all about GOD - Jesus Christ as our Savior. I have never in my life heard him say anything apart of Scripture and I have watched many of his sermons on TV, on his website as well.

I will grant you that can listen to Joel preach and not hear him say anything that contradicts scripture. Many times lies are only sprinkled in with lots of truth. Additionally, it would not be a source of concern if the problems I have pointed out here pointed to issues that were not fundamental to our faith.

Our job isn't to judge based on the size of the ministry, God's apparent annointing, or the demeanor of the pastor, our job is to judge rightly based on the truth of God's word.

As I said before it seems that Mr Osteen is a very nice man, but what he teaches is tainted with poison.

I praise God for healing and I have seen God heal personally. God restored my voice after 6 months of sounding like I had severe laryngitis in 1999.

However, God doesn't act based on the force created by the voice of man or the force of his faith. This is a fundamental teaching of Word of Faith. Your words have a creative power. Your faith can overthrow God's soveriegn will. They may not all preach this with equal fervor, but this is a fundamental doctrine of Word of Faith. Joel has preached it. Meyer, Hagin, Copeland, White, Jakes, Dollar, DuPlantis, Byrum, all teach this concept. It is unscriptural.

This topic started with Benny The Hinn and then took a turn with Mr. Joel Osteen. My wife Hazel and I have also been discussing Pastor Joel's ministry.

After learning that Pastor Joel Osteen is coming to Oakland this Friday, Hazel was able to get tickets but I did not want to go. I mentioned that I question the Word Of Faith movement. I announced in Live Chat last night that I am not going. She is aware of this.

On Sunday mornings when we get ready for church Hazel does enjoy watching Pastor Joel and I do cross reference his sermons with the bible and found he is consistent. I don't always agree with his message and that is ok. I am entitled to my stand as long as the Spirit keeps me in check with the Truth.

I have given the message and man, did I receive disagreements from the congregation. I wanted them to pat me on the back because we are, after all, the family of God but it does not work that way! I actually found my sermon on recorded playback out of whack. I needed to stand corrected and asked God's forgiveness along with the congregation's forgiveness.

Hazel and I spoke about this again and I am going to go to see Pastor Joel this Friday after all. And you know what? I am going to keep an open heart and attend prayfully. I already called Joel Osteen Ministries and spoke with Pastor Craig out of Lakewood Church in Texas. I was respectful but asked my questions direct to Pastor.

I am going to approach the staff in Oakland during the message this Friday when the Spirit moves me and ask questions, obtain literature. I remember when I was appointed counselor at the Billy Graham Crusade in San Francisco back in 1997 and many persons who attended had many objective questions about Mr. Graham.

Will I use caution? Absolutely! Its part of the armor when we are in Spiritual battle for the Lord. Please keep me in prayer. I want this to be a positive experience and know that God will prevail the Truth.

It seems to me that you just exist and have no testimony of anything other than being somebody who visits TALKJESUS to ramble on and on and on and on about what someone else isn't , instead of how awsome GOD is ! JESUS himself , told the Religous
people in his day that their religion causes the word of GOD , yes the same word of GOD, that you have,and share to have no power ,or effect ! You do the same ! You're words are empty , and lack any fruit . I mean spiritual fruit , like love ,joy ,peace ,patience , longsuffering , ect... ! Others have treated you this way , but you are the most hopeless poster I have read since being on T.J. ! You cry out like a rock , instead of serving like a KING !
JESUS CHRIST paid a big price for you're salvation ! The gospel of JESUS is good news , so start telling us the good news instead of throwing you're wet , stinky ,dish-rag , hopelessness at all the faithfilled people at TALKJESUS ! Again ... it's impossible to serve GOD without FAITH . I don't know the complete testimonies of the others here at T.J. , but GOD has redeemed my life through JESUS CHRIST , with an awsome display of power through faith in the promises in his word , and you cannot change any of that !!! JESUS himself said ... you're either with us , or against us !!! Please start sharing the great things that GOD has done in you're life , if you have any ? I never liked this thread to begin with ! There are too many great things that GOD has for everyone , and this debate is getting old !!!

This is my first post, and I regret that it has to be a reply to a post a fellow brother in Christ has made. JustJan's "anti Joel crusade" might not be correct for this thread in particular, but her points are clearly valid and well thought. We, as Christians, are commanded by God to point out error, and I believe that whenever deception is revealed God is glorified. Therefore, her posts glorify God (as it has been clearly shown shown Joel's and Hinn's teaching are false) albeit in an unconventional sense. I believe JustJan's post have been filled with many fruit: love, longsuffering, truthfulness, humility, kindness, and self control. This is my two cents on the matter, I hope I have not stepped on too many toes with my first post here, but I believe this had to be said.

How do you believe in JESUS and THE RESURRECTION without faith ? I am open for balanced teaching , not faultfinding teaching . My ears are not itchy , however attentive to the voice of THE SPIRIT . I am not ashamed of the gospel of JESUS CHRIST . Mathew 17:20 - so JESUS said to them , because of you're unbelief , for assuredly , I say to you , If you have faith as a mustard seed , you will say to this mountain , move from here to there , and it will move , and nothing will be impossible for you ! NKJ . Did JESUS say this , or not ? I am very tired of people getting saved , because of promises made to them for homes , and cars , and earthly gain . First seek the kingdom of GOD ,and all these things will be added to you . But faith in GOD will remove the mountains of drug addiction , alcoholism , abuse , and every ungodly thing if you have faith and believe . Faith and obedience go hand in hand . Do you have faith that THE FATHER hears you're prayers , or do you leave it up to chance ? These are questions for you to answer . God has done innumerable things for me, and I have faith in His Son, and He has given me the precious ability to repent. However, if we are going to have intelligent discussions, please do not post disparaging comments about people. Please cite specific examples where people are being faithless, or seeking earthly gain as you appear to imply. God hears our prayers dear friend, but He will not grant them if they are contrary to His will. We are to pray only for the things He wishes us to have, for strength, wisdom, guidance, etc. and not earthly possessions. God is beyond measure, and He is beyond our comprehension. However, now I ask you to respond to my post, and I ask you to please stop ranting about things that really have nothing to do with the previous discussions. There is a time and place for testimonies, this thread is not one. My comments are not meant to attack you personally; I just want you to respond to my specific points.

JUSTJAN ... You seem to be lumping everybody together in one movement .
We all have to be balanced in what we watch and listen to you're right . Ask GOD to reveal the heart of Joel Osteen to you , and allow the HOLY SPIRIT to show you his heart as an individual servant of GOD . You seem to be judging him on what other people have written instead of what the spirit of GOD is showing you . As far as faith goes , it's impossible to please GOD without faith . I see Joel Osteen as a humble man , who teaches practical applications of GODS word in our everyday lives . He didn't even want to preach , because he felt unworthy and unqualified for the task . I encourage you to also humble yourself towards brother Osteen , and ask GOD to show you the truth about his integrity towards GOD and his people . BROTHER

Although not directed at me, I feel the need to reply. I have heard Joel's sermons, he uses very little scripture, and gives you a "feel good" attitude. He implies that you are the master of your own destiny, and that you can make your life become whatever you want it to be. However, this flies in the face of Scripture. Moses, he didn't want to be God's spokesman, God made him do it anyway. Clearly, God is the Master, and we should serve Him, not the other way around. Joel's teachings turn faith into a cosmic ATM machine., and as JustJan's transcripts have clearly shown, his sermons clearly imply all that I have said.

God is my Master, and I test everything against Scripture, and Hinn and Osteen fail the test rather miserably.
