Subject Heading:-' Those who speak against the Word???'
Hello
@Twistie,
Your subject heading draws our attention to those who speak contrary to what is written in the Scriptures: and you ask the question, are those who do this guilty of blaspheme? As an example of this you refer to those whom,
you have heard, say that more than one water baptism is required, and ask if they would be guilty of blasphemy by so saying.
* The word, 'blaspheme', is found in the New Testament in 6 places (Acts 26:11; 1 Timothy 1:20; James 2:7; Revelation 13:6) and twice in the following verses:-
'Verily I say unto you,
All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men,
and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness,
but is in danger of eternal damnation:
Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
(Mark 3:28-30)
* We can also be in no doubt as to what constitutes blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, for we have the Lord's own example to refer to, don't we? As well as the words which end the quotation (above). '.
... because they said, "He hath an unclean spirit" '. The Scribes had attributed the works of the Lord Jesus Christ to that of an unclean spirit:-
'And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said,
He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth He out devils.'
(Mar 3:22)
* The seriousness of this is obvious, isn't it, because of the Holiness of the Holy Spirit, Whose works they were.
* All of the vain words of man spoken contrary to the word of God pale into insignificance when compared to this, don't they? Though should not go un-condemned.
Thank you
In Christ Jesus
our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.
