Video Games...I want some other believers perspective

Video Games

I think the entire chapter of Romans 14 covers this topic. Each person must follow their own conscience as it lines up with Gods word. The bottom line here is each gamer or people who play video games are different. What bothers one and becomes an addiction may not bother some one else. Each of us have to allow the Holy Spirit to direct us in all areas of our lives.

If you feel like God is telling you to cut back, then cut back. If God is telling you to quit all together then quit.

Anything can become a sin if not done in moderation. What you mediate and dwell on becomes part of you. Take this site, Talk Jesus. It is full of the things of God, but if I stay on this site for 14 hours a day and do not work or fulfill my daily responsibilities as a father, husband and provider I am wrong and need to re-evaluate what I am doing.

I would ask this question of myself while playing these games. What is it adding to my life?

Do not allow others convictions to sway you from your own God given convictions! Just remember, your convictions must be based on the foundations of the Word of God!:shade:

If you get desenthisised to violence, you can have a better handle of situations where you see someone die. I saw this kid die on the pool once and because I played so much GTA, COD and other shooting games, I wasn't all bothered about his death.

But just try to be careful playing online because if you keep getting killed and rage then you are breaking God's rule about not having a bad temper.

retired

I’m speaking solely about myself… but I’m actually retired from gaming for similar reasons as a few people who’ve posted. I’m not insinuating that gaming is necessarily evil… however it can be very distracting. For myself I’ve noticed that when I start to play a new game I begin to drift away from my focus of bible study and just slowly start to lose my self-control. The concept of not serving two masters applied to me I guess. Being as how I couldn’t control my gaming habit I simply had to quit.

Outside of that… how many people here have tried Christian Gaming? Once I was working on a Christian Video Game and actually had spoke with an executive on the game design plan…. Unfortunately my partner decided that the Christian perspective wasn’t cool enough and the dream kind of died….
