What is an evil thought? How do you define an evil thought?
A new Christian has to be careful or live in fear. God does not wish you to live in fear that you are sinning daily.
For example I am a married man, have been for 27 years, so, I see this pretty girl, boy she is a cute one. So I talk to her, admire her, and flirt with her, I am attracted to her.
If I take it any further , that is the sin. I was created by God to live and enjoy life, but to also live a good life.
But I am not to live in fear that I am no good, just a sinner all the time. That is not the purpose of Gods word.
Many years ago I was a policeman and I had a fellow officer who had shot a person during a robbery. He was a new Christian and was very fearful that his taking of a life was going to send him to hell. Nothing could be further from the truth, but it took me many conversations to convince him of that. He had been brainwashed by his local religious experience and had some very wrong ideas.
So define sin, what is sin.....exactly.
Tis not always what some will have you think it is.

So define sin, what is sin.....exactly.
This is a great question Kit and I am going to give it a shot at the answer.
Sin is often misunderstood, both in understanding fully what it is and in its consequence.
Like anyone else I do not fully understand everything, but for me sin is pretty simple to define.
Once I fully understood the absolute perfection of God the Farther, this question came into focus.
There are many things about the bible that support my understanding of sin as a opposing to God's perfection.
If you look towards the end of 1 Corinthians 13, you will see St. Paul talking about this divine perfection in relationship to us in our human state and how all that will change when we go to heaven.
Paraphrasing:
"For our knowledge is imperfect and our understanding is imperfect but when the imperfection goes and the perfection comes, we will stand Face to Face to God and we will know Him fully, as well as He knows us."
What Paul says here comes right at the heals of Him telling us about perfect love, God's love, starting in verse 3.
Chapter 13 is often called the the "love" Chapter. Paul is certainly talking about God's love here, perfect love, and our imperfection at it!
Previous to 1 Corinthians 13, we are told that love replaces the Ten Commandments. But here is the significants of this, as imperfect beings, we can no more keep this kind of love (God’s unconditional, agape, love) than we could keep the Ten Commandments 24/7.
In Chapter 13, God is reminding us how sinful we are.
And that is the purpose of the Ten Commandments and also the Covenant of love that replaced the Ten Commandments, to reveal in us our sinful nature and our dependency upon God's Grace in Jesus Christ. Neither of these was meant for us to do perfectly, 24/7, because none of us are perfect.
10As it is written:
"There is no one righteous, not even one; Romans 3:10
So what is sin?
Sin is anything that we do that is outside of God's perfect will and nature.
