What Donnie is trying to tell you is that people aren't Christians because someone convinced them, or because it's a comfortable culture to try on like a sweater. Yahweh is the one, true Living God. If someone humbles himself, and seeks Him, He reveals Himself to them. Then we know He is the real deal. This is why Christians have been willing throughout the last 2,000 years to die for their faith without denouncing Jesus.

He is right there, if you want to know Him. But you must humble yourself, turn from your sin, and seek His face. He will reveal Himself to you. You won't regret it, either.

The OP is asking us personally why we chose God, Yahweh, over other gods.

I think for me it was because God showed Himself so much to me and is doing so still. I could never turn from Him because I have seen Him at work in my life. He is awesome!! His name is above all others.

At the name of Jesus EVERY knee shall bow and EVERY tongue shall confess that He is Lord!! None like Jesus!!

I can't help but worship Him and WANT to know Him more. I am Yours oh Lord!!

I personally chose to follow God because of the huge
amount of physical and historical evidence, as well
as evidence of His presence in my life.
I look back and see how God has reached down and touched
my life when I didn't know it then. It is a miracle
that I am out of the situation I was in before.

Hence...Matthew 16:17.

Its all by revelation. Our human minds/hearts could never recieve or grasp God or the concept or a God unless by His revealing it to us. We must be willing to know....

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Because they didn't! The one true God chose them first!

Amen RJ, the truth has been proclaimed! God chooses. God calls. We can only respond.

Thank you for sharing the blessing of the truth RJ,

May God pour out his truth upon all through which ever vessel he chooses,

Gary

RJ, please forgive me for my past insults to your character, they were not of God. I was confused and allowed another unholy spirit to speak you you through me....I confess that sin unto you. Please pray for me that I may be healed.

just wanted to know why people chose Yahweh as the one true God?
Hi Aaron.

We don't choose God, He chooses us. Scripture tells us that while we were dead in our sins and separated from God, we had no desire to call on God. That's why Jesus had to come and save us.

1 John 4:19

We love Him, because He first loved us.

John 6:44

No man can come to Me unless the Father who hath sent Me draw him.

He reveals Himself to us, and we respond to Him. I chose nothing, but I did respond to something!

I think it is well for all of us to remember that it is his will and understanding before ours:

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding". Proverbs 3:5

you all seem to be saying either God revealed Himself to you or you had an experience of Him, but why did you decide that the God being revealed is the God of the Bible?

i do believe there is a God and for about 4 years i followed the Bible and tried to live in accordance with God's will as i understood it, i hit a hard patch, fell away and now i am seeking God for who He is, just feel that as i studied the Bible, questions popped up that seemingly can't be answered, wandering now if maybe the bible is wrong or if there is another explanation.

bottom line, want to know the truth about God, and find out what God wants of me.

It remains a curiosity why He reliably chooses people whose parents and surrounding culture happen to be Christian as well.
For reasons only known to the deity, He rarely selects folks from Kandahar or Madras.

One also may wonder whether the forced conversion of the indigenous peoples of the Americas by the Spanish invaders (well, truth be told, they were offered an alternative to converting to the religion of their conquerors, namely death by the sword) may have something to do with the current dominance of Catholicism in these regions.

But if one keeps dwelling on these little inconvenient details of history, one might also start contemplating whether being picked up by the Roman establishment, under emperor Constantine in the 4th century, might have been somewhat of a boon to Christendom.

No doubt, some here will make like an ostrich and prefer to think this is just one massive coincidence, or one can always pull out the wet blanket that extinguishes the spark of all interesting conversations and state that "God moves in....". You know the tedious end.

I think Jesus went through that same process.

Luke 2:46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

When Jesus was 12 he stayed behind in Jerusalem talking to the teachers of Israel. Both listening and questioning their interpretations of scripture. He didn't seem satisfied with their take on many issues and that's why he was always rebuking them for distorting the word of God.
Jesus seems to have come to the same conclusion that there was either error or another explanation.

John 10:8 All who came before me are thieves and bandits, but the sheep didn't listen to them.

In the new testament it is revealed that God IS Love.A concept that is a little muddy in the old testament.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have
it more abundantly.

I would venture to say all that came after him(religious teachings) are also thieves and robbers.

John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
John 10:5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
now i am seeking God for who He is
Good work on spotting the thieves.
Keep seeking, when you hear the Shepard you will know.

just to remind you of the original query,

Oh,--well he said if I believed the world would hate me and that really worked out well.
