Will The Holy Spirit Ever leave A Believer

Hey RJ,

You might consider rethinking that interpretation of these verses. I'm not so sure that a plain reading of this text is saying exactly that. I mean, I've never been to seminary or anything, but idk.... I'm just not so sure that's what it is getting at exactly.
That's O.K. we all have different interpretations. I wouldn't consider mine a plain reading though. It is more of context of who God is to me and includes things like eternal hope and OSAS. It is my understanding, that at the time of the writing of Hebrews, the church was having a problem with false Christians (Jews from the Synagogue) infiltrating the church. They would claim to be Christians, brothers of the true believers, but on the side, would urge these brothers to come back to the temple for sacrifices.
The writer of Hebrews was issuing a warning of Apostasy to the true believer, telling them about these false Christians. He was telling the believer that they could not fall away because their salvation was secure. For, if the did fall away, it would be impossible to bring them back to repentance because Jesus was not going to be sacrificed again. What he was saying is that once saved, there is no such thing as ever needing to be brought back, from Apostasy and to repentance ever again. He was also saying that these infiltrators were never saved in the first place, or they would not have been telling you to go back to the Temple for sacrifices.
If you don't mind, I would like to ask you one question:
  • You being a "Born Again" with the Holy Spirit in you, could you Travis, ever fall away to Apostasy and where the Holy Spirit has left you?

Wives "walk out" on husbands that love them.
Father's "walk out" on children that love them.
Mother's leave babies that need them.
Husbands leave wives that love them.
People leave families that love them.
People "walk out" churches that love them.
Israel walked out on God over and over again in the Old Testament.
70 disciples walked out on Jesus in the New Testament.

There is a way to keep your wife from leaving you, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal in most places.
You can tie them up and lock them in the basement. I wouldn't recommend this, but people try it from time to time.
It's called kidnapping, entrapment, unlawful imprisonment, and a few other things.

Forcing someone to stay with with you who doesn't want to be with you is not love. It's bullying.
If you really want to walk out on God bad enough, He will eventually let you.

I will never leave or forsake my wife, and no one I know is big or bad enough enough to "pluck her out of my hand".
God is infinitely bigger and badder than I am, no one can take anyone away from Him.
But if my wife really didn't love me anymore and really wanted to leave, I would have to let her.

This may be true, but what does it have to do with the original thread " Will the Holy Spirit Ever leave a Believer?"

could you Travis, ever fall away to Apostasy..

Ya,

I could walk away from following the Lord tomorrow. I could go off into the world and live large. I could totally abandon all reason and just completely drop off the edge and live like the chief of the heathen. I could become the most despicable, wretched, filthy creature imaginable.

But, I don't want to.

Blessings,

Travis

Now we are talking the scripture in Hebrews 6 that you were questioning me on. Here the situation is you are a true born again Christian with Christ, as I am sure you are Travis. In the scripture, we are talking about " falling away", this means going from born again to all out rejection of Christ. This would essentially mean going from born again back to un-born. This would be a conundrum in God's realm. Like first being born your natural / physical birth, I see no where in nature or the Bible where you can be un-born from your natural or your spiritual birth. I know you think you could walk away, but that is not what I asked and what "falling away" means!
But, I don't want to.
With the spirit of God in you, that counts as not being able to fall away. With God in you, and he promises to never leave you, how does one fall away from a God like that!
BTW, this was my original question: You being a "Born Again" with the Holy Spirit in you, could you Travis, ever fall away to Apostasy and where the Holy Spirit has left you?:D
