Besides the Bible of course!

I adore Max Lucado's books and would like to find some other nonfiction Christian authors similar to Max. If anyone's got any recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it.

ps. I'm hoping this is the right section to post this in. I didn't find a 'book' section on this board. Also, I did a search for this before starting this thread, and only found a thread for fiction books.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well I am a complete Joyce Meyer fan! She must seek God before she puts anything out; because it seems like it's always for me! But I also enjoy Rick Warren's Bible Study Methods. Tim Lahaye books. And Stormie Omartian's books on prayer. (I hope I spelled her name right) It's so many great articles and sermons on the internet now that I don't buy as many books as I used to.

I've seen this woman on pay tv here in Australia and on the Channel Five Access Channel. She is a great person.

Mark Cahill - One Thing You Can't Do In Heaven
Kirk Cameron & Ray Comfort - The Way of the Master (The Way of the Master)
Tim Lahaye & Jerry B Jenkins - Left Behind Series

Setapart, have you read the thread about Rick Warren and his books? If not, you might be interested in reading about it. If you want me to email you that book I was talking about let me know.

Its broken down into a number of chapters with titles like Hope, Life, Love, Discipline and other christian qualities. Each chapter has a in depth review of about 3 films with a slant towards that specific quality. This book is perfect if you want to base some ministries on movies or just understand them more.

Pebosworth, please read these links that Chad provided us about My Purpose Driven Life.

so are we not liking purpose driven life anymore? Surely it only obscures the bible if you use that as your only source for study groups. Pretty much all writings based on the bible should be taken with a pinch of salt shouldn't they?

Actually, if a book that is not based on the bible should not be considered a bible-based book!

Either you're right or left, in or out. There's no in between.

Rev 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth

The bride wore white......Dannah Gresh
He came to set the captives free......Rebecca Brown
Bondage breaker......Neil T anderson
A Divine Revelation of Hell......Mary K Baxter

The last 3 book ( yes Derrial with a pinch of salt ) was really cool.

Ive not actually read PDL Trulyblezzed, just heard good things from a number of reliable christian sources (friends in church ect.). For this reason I can't really say anything on the subject. It just surprises me that a book thats supposed to be Godly can become so popular without properly quoting the bible. I guess for me the juries (sp?) still out on this one...

Another good christian non fic book is Taming The Tiger by Tony Anthony. It's a story of his life as a kung fu legend, his fall from grace, time in a turkish prison and eventual conversion to Christ. Its an amazing story independant of the religious aspect but with it the book becomes a must for any christian who needs a boost.

Its easy for books like that to be popular.

Everyone wants to be better Christians and have a better life.
Sometimes I write articles you might like it, someone else hate it and a ton of people found it offensive.

My motives would always be questioned..
Just pray for the author ( we dont know his intentions ) like Derrial said everything we read should be taken with a pinch of salt.

People are questioning my sister Joyce Meyer..she is in the cult watch. All her books is about "Self". I have her books and I also have the Holy Spirit within me, so her teaching in no way makes me " Self centered "

Joel Osteen also made the cult watch not just for his books ,but thats another story for another day.

This has nothing to do with saying they are evil, its all about Us not giving our lives over to their teachings....Over to these books.

Read them if you wish but most importantly test them using the Word of God.

I totally agree. No matter who or where the teaching comes from I always seek guidance from the Holy Spirit before just believing or following anything. Things might makes sense, but it doesn't mean it's biblical. The author's intentions might not have been to deceive, but it doesn't mean that everything they say is law either, even we tend to speak out of turn without the Holy Spirit, so it is just as easy for an author to write things that aren't guided by the Holy Spirit.
