"If you're talking about, lets use Victoria secret product catalog it's not pornographic material."

As for Victoria's secret's product catalog, if you were a parent and had boys at the age of puberty. Would you let them look at this or keep it in their room? Your answer will indicate if it's pornography or not. The worldly marketing technique is just that. The clothing can be seen just as good on a mannequin. As for the Victoria's secret's product, behind closed doors with man and wife would be the only acceptable reason to wear. Yet I would hope the couples love would be good enough that they would not need these products.

Hello Edward, if a parent believe VS catalog to be pornographic why would they have it in their house ? You have to shop there to receive the catalog.
As a female my parents never shared such caution towards me viewing men in clothing catalogs. Are you saying males are born with some uncontrollable instinct to take a peek at women? If the outfit is unaccepted in a catalog why is it acceptable for the wife to wear it for her husband ?

"it's a marketing tactic. Some /most women dress sexy with other women in mind (competition), sorry guys. If you're already her target and she knows where you're going to be, then yes you will influence her choice of clothing."

If a woman has to dress sexy and use worldly marketing tactics to get a man, what type of man is she getting? Would those worldly marketing tactics get a godly man? If you wouldn't dress that way at church, a church function or just being in public with Christian friends, Why would you dress that way. What does the bible tell you how women should dress. Men and Women alike, should dress in accordance to what is good and acceptable in god's eyes.
You may want to re-read what i wrote, it's the companies that use marketing tactics not women. Please quote where I mentioned christians women dressing sexy.

If you wouldn't dress that way at church, a church function or just being in public with Christian friends, Why would you dress that way. What does the bible tell you how women should dress. Men and Women alike, should dress in accordance to what is good and acceptable in god's eyes.
Is this directing to me ?

Hi rizen1

Please support your last reply with some scripture so I might understand the Godly answer that you're giving. It sounds to me that your reply is the way of the world. Could you also answer this question: Yet who is it promoting temptation for someone all to sin? Who is it that's corrupting today's society to make someone believe dressing seductively is acceptable for society? And what did they call the women in those days that dressed promoting lust?

May we all be blessed with the truth of the God's word.

Hello Edward, after you quote me saying Christian women can dress sexy and that it's acceptable for Christian women to be of the world.

read the end of both posts the bible verse is the answer, now try connecting it.

13 Bible Verses about Children, Teaching teaching our children in God's word. It's not about how society or if you or me view the swimsuit magazine as pornography. It's about how God's views it. You may understand why they inserted scripture of teaching the children.

Joshua 8:35 There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel with the women and the little ones and the strangers who were living among them.

2 Kings 12:2 Jehoash did right in the sight of the LORD all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

Psalms 34:11 Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

Psalms 78:5 For He established a testimony in Jacob And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers That they should teach them to their children,

Proverbs 3:1 My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments;
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 "These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. "You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

Exodus 10:2 and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your grandson, how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and how I performed My signs among them, that you may know that I am the LORD."

Deuteronomy 4:9 "Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons.

Deuteronomy 6:20-21 "When your son asks you in time to come, saying, 'What do the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments mean which the LORD our God commanded you?' then you shall say to your son, 'We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the LORD brought us from Egypt with a mighty hand.

Deuteronomy 11:19 "You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.

Proverbs 1:8 Hear, my son, your father's instruction And do not forsake your mother's teaching;

Isaiah 38:19 "It is the living who give thanks to You, as I do today; A father tells his sons about Your faithfulness.

Joel 1:3 Tell your sons about it, And let your sons tell their sons, And their sons the next generation.

Is the swimsuit magazine considered pornography. Absolutely yes this is about lack of teaching throughout the generations to bring us to the state were at now. Where people believe marketing techniques in our current culture has anything to do with God's word. By accepting our current culture is or our society where we live, with their poor moral standards with lack a scriptural teaching. We may as well give up now. Or you can put on your armor for God, go out spread the gospel teach the children in the right way, teach God's word. Win one's soul at a time, make disciples, and spread the word of God like wildfire. The way our society is today is not the way God wants it. Satan is of this world, but the good news is once you gave your life to Jesus Christ are lord and savior, you may live in this world, but you're not of this world. Never compromise your faith or the word of God, because society or your culture is doing it now. The lord wants much better for us, we just have to take the time and listen to the Holy Spirit guiding our heart. Demand better for our future generation of children teach them what is Good, acceptable and righteous in God's eyes, hold true those standards.

1 John‬ ‭2‬:‭16‬
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Any replied justifing the way of the world, marketing techniques, of provocateur dressing in pictures or public that would provoke lustful thoughts among men or women, still is not justified in God's eyes.

As Christians need to stand firm against pornography or some may say light pornography as of swimsuit issue. Stand firm with the ways the lord. I was once told an that the Christian army is the only army in the world that shoot their wounded down. We all need to lift up rise up together in not justify anything that don't strictly adhere to God's word.

May God give us all the courage and strength, to submit and commit all we do for His honor and Glory. Let's pick up our fellow Christians in rise up from the ways of the world.

Again Edward I'm having a hard time understanding what you're responding to, can you please quote me saying the church should/or have accepted our current culture.
Never compromise your faith or the word of God, because society or your culture is doing it now.
Again Edward I'm reading everything you've posted but you have not quoted exacted what you're referring to, or what you're responding to.

It's not about how society or if you or me view the swimsuit magazine as pornography
Edward the question to this thread read as, Are swimsuit magazines of women considered pornography?
When you do take the time to read my posts, you would see the answer to the question and the scripture that supports it.

If you're asking specifically about swimsuit magazines such as, playboy, sports illustrated, or any magazine that has a center fold...YES it's pornographic. If you're talking about, lets use Victoria secret product catalog it's not pornographic material.
I'll explain
Centerfold magazines are created with the intent to arouse, and provide a fantasy. On the other hand a magazine whose sole purpose is to advertise clothing,... they use sexy imagery to convince consumers that, " they too can look and feel sexy, all they have to do is buy this product," it's a marketing tactic. Some /most women dress sexy with other women in mind (competition), sorry guys. If you're already her target and she knows where you're going to be, then yes you will influence her choice of clothing.

A person who struggles with excessive masturbation, would use both for their pleasure. They would use any image for arousal whether it's a centerfold or a Kmart swimsuit ad. Any person who signs up for clothing catalog for pleasure have some issues.

There's a double standard though, men without shirts would never be considered pornographic. Why is that ? The title of the question itself targets women instead of generalizing if swimsuit on both men or women are pornographic.

The human body is beautiful thing, it's the mindset of those viewing the body and the motivation behind the person promoting the images that make it pornographic. That's why in 2014 people get upset when a women breastfeeds in public, we put meaning to what we see. In some civilizations a topless women is just that, not a sexual object.

What chad said,

"Ultimate answer:
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭28‬"

In your original post, you stated everything of the worldview (as unbeliever views things) and at the end you stated Chad's answer quoting Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭28. This scripture tells us we should not be looking at the women this way. Yet if we go to the root of the problem. 1 Timothy 2:9-10 what is Paul telling you here. 1 Peter 3:3 all what is Peter telling you here. Romans 12:2 and what is Paul telling you here. There is more scripture about this.

Reading the whole contents of your posting there is nothing scriptural base on "your opinion." I have noticed that you are tagged as a "Moderator" are you to mediate through the eyes of a unbeliever. If so I can understand your answer. Yet if you feel I'm wrong please break down your post showing scriptural base to "your opinion". For you did not site any references that it was someone else's opinion. Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭28 is instructions not to look in a woman lustfully these instructions apply no matter what clothing there wearing or not wearing.

1 Timothy 4 read a whole chapter and.
2 Peter 2:1-3 (NIV)
2 But there were also false prophets(A) among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you.(B) They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord(C) who bought them(D)—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their depraved conduct(E) and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed(F) these teachers will exploit you(G) with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

Now I tell you teach me what the bible says about women dressing in this manner or have in their photos taken in this type of clothing or looking at the photo's. Tell me what Jesus would say if he picked up one of the swimsuit magazines or victoria's secret catalogs. If you are up moderator of Talk Jesus, let's talk about God's word let us use God words in our postings and daily life.

rizen1, if you reply again tell me you accepted Jesus Christ is your lord and savior if you have. For anything on this thread does not indicate you have are have not. And before you ask yes I have accepted Jesus Christ as my lord and savior and I have dedicated my life to serve the lord, and teach the gospel the truth of God's word. For right now I am unclear because of your title of Mediator if I am the one that should be bringing you to lord.

God Bless

I am not advocating anything, but what do you think of this link?

what is modest swimwear? | Modeling Christ

Here is a little background on the author

Rachel Lee Carter | Premiere Motivational Speakers Bureau

I looked at these links. This is quote from the Rachel Lee Carter site

After hearing God’s call on her life as a professional Christian model, she re-entered the fashion industry with a new agenda—to share Christ.

What a whole load of worldly new-age falsity
Where in the Bible are women instructed and called to flaunt themselves and their bodies?
The gospel does not require this.

This is even worse than the worldly swim wear magazines such as Victoria Street for at least they don't profess to be Christian

Not I, but Christ be honored, loved, exalted,
Not I, but Christ be seen, be known and heard;
Not I, but Christ in every look and action,
Not I, but Christ in every thought and word.

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price

1 Peter 3:3-4

Sorry. I thought I'd found something here. Now I'm embarrassed. .

To keep things simple, how about we ask ourselves what we would be looking at if Christ were sitting in the 'waiting room' with us...and just do that. The answer should be easy if indeed Christ in us as we say.

No intent to embarrass you @kvnchrist

Glad you posted what you did as it shows what type of stuff is going out in the name of Christ
I posted that and didn't even see it for what it was. Nobody had to embarrass me. i did it to myself by not paying attention to what was said there. I took it for granted and dipped my own face in egg.

Greetings,

I was wondering about a few things relating to the subject matter here of this poll.

Some things to think about...

If I was to ask a blind man what he thought about it, he might reply, "Eyes have not seen..."
If I asked him if he'd like to see the magazines that this poll refers to, I wonder what he would say?

If suddenly (or straight away) he could see and was shown the magazines referred to here, what would he be looking at and why and what would he be thinking? (I realize that he might rather be more likely yo be unable to contain himself that he could suddenly see!?)
What would he be amazed at, and why?

Would I need to indoctrinate him to think properly and refuse to see such things and if so, what might I say that would make me different from any other religion or culture, meaning, what could I tell him that would convince him to have the 'right' attitude to such magazines, their content and subject matter and incentives or motives and manner of presentation that would grant him life changing faith in Christ Jesus the Lord?
Should I tell him that it is wrong to look upon a picture of a person and if so, why, given that he has never seen any body ever before and might be absolutely amazed to see what one looks like?
How could I explain any concept of what is right or wrong about magazines of women's swimsuits?
Do you think he would be all that interested in the swimsuits?
I wondered if he would say to me,"I have no interest in a lady's/womans swimsuit and I therefore do not want to look, thank you."
Would he rather be mindful of the fascinating paper that makes up the magazine, having perhaps handled a magazine before and wondered what it might look like?

Do we, who are Christ's, enter into worldly conversations and debates that can bring division rather than the bond of peace and building up, pushing 'social' (worldly) morals around?
Or should we be more daring and say that such things that this thread began with are of no interest to us, that we would rather look unto Jesus and have our conversation and judgment according to the Gospel, which is Christ died for the sins of the world and rose again .... and is coming again to judge the ungodly.
Our Lord cares for the souls of men and women regardless of their take on this thread and shed His Priceless Blood that we might be free from worldliness and it's trappings ,that we might put off the old man and put on the new, believing, and that we would go forth, proclaiming the glorious Gospel and have life eternal.

The world lies in Darkness and is putrid in many more ways than this thread covers and those who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, know that they have no care about such worldly do's or don'ts anymore for their conversation is in Heaven and knowing that people of the world, unsaved and unbelieving, rebellious and lost, are indeed lost in the world. Doing things referred to here in this thread is of no amazement. Let the world decide on their flavour of darkness, we have no interest in it once delivered from it. Let the world decide and debate if something is right or wrong according to what and who thinks is morally right or wrong.... they will anyway.
If filth is filth, do we really need to debate and argue about it's filthiness. What profit is there in doing so?
Our part is to think on those things that are of good report, namely the testimony and Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

If we were to be at the foot of the Cross, what eternal value would be found in women's swimsuit magazines and would we be so interested in arguing about them?
People need the Gospel, not the virtues or lack of them of the world.

Then I wondered what a blind man would say if I asked him what he thought about such a topic as this (see heading of thread) and I figured he might say something like this, "Eyes have not seen..."

Bless you ....><>

ps... in love, building each other up with edification, not shooting each other and sinners down.

It may be that lust and pornography are much more "than a lack of virtue". It may be that our salvation depends on obedience to God and stopping certain sins. God's will and commandments are much more than suggestions. They are the way we are supposed to live.

Matt 7:21; "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
Matt 7:22; "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'
Matt 7:23; "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

Both God and Jesus made it a point to declare adultery as sin. (Exod 20:14; Matt 5:27-28; Matt 19:18; Luke 18:20; etc.. )
Paul went so far as to say those people who are committing adultery (lusting after pornography) will not enter into the kingdom of God. ( 1 Cor 6:9-10; )

Very few verses are more specifically about masturbation than these.

1 Cor 6:18; Flee sexual immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
1 Cor 6:19; Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
1 Cor 6:20; For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

On one hand, it's simply debating women's swimsuits, on the other hand it's our eternal fate based on what we do.

John 5:28; "Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice,
John 5:29; and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

1 Cor 9:27; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

Matt 5:30; "If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.

Rom 6:12; Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,
Rom 6:13; and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
Rom 6:14; For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Rom 6:15; What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!
Rom 6:16; Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?

The Puritans wrote whole books about all the details regarding how one should adorn themselves, what they should or should not partake in, and similar kinds of things. I don't doubt for a second that they had good motives for doing so, and that much of what they addressed had some importance to it. Personally, I don't live in that frame of mind.

It is interesting to me though, that if just 70 years ago, in the USA (or anywhere elsewhere most likely), if women, and probably men as well, had gone out in public in the type of swimwear we wear in public today, they would have been arrested by the public authorities (who were not necessarily Christian at all) for public indecency. Our culture has undergone a huge change in what is acceptable (beyond just swimwear), that's pretty much un-debateable.

As a single male, I really appreciate it if my sisters in Christ intentionally dress modest. I can appreciate beauty just fine without it crossing the line into sensuality. I don't know how to write a book detailing the exact difference between the two, but I can pretty much tell which is which by making my own judgement call. A lot of this stuff out there is intentionally sensual, whether the person wearing it really realizes that or not.

We are to be in the world but not of the world. We have a lot of freedom in that, but we can also cause others to stumble with our freedoms.

Exactly. The last 30 years alone has seen a huge downward spiral in morality in this country, let alone others. Not surprised any more. Just proves the prophecies in Scripture about the end times.

Yes indeed.
The devil has gradually added more and more candy coating to filth and immorality....making it easily acceptable because it appears tasty and beautiful
What we have in these last dark days is plenty of eye candy and plenty of ear tickling, a diluted gospel and a worldly ministry

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:
and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Do not err, my beloved brethren
James 1:14-16

The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

1Corinthians 15:47-48

The world looks to the exterior to support a bankrupt interior. Flash and glitter to adorn what is most precious and those that follow this see the results but can't access what is wrong because they are taught to concentrate on coating the body with glitter instead of making the soul shine. It simply has no value to them.
