A model is basically a dummy.
As most models are impossibly thin for clothing rags, its silly to look in magazines for clothing. You're best bet is to actually go the the clothing store and try on the swimsuits yourself, to see what best fits you, as everyone is different.
But I would say. Speedos one piece is the best if you want a basic no frills swimsuit. You can always wear a fancy sarong over the top, besides, its best to be covered at the poolside or beach cos of the UV rays.
