Controlling spirit?

The only controlling spirit in the church should be the Holy Spirit.

Hi,
I believe the greatest need is more knowledge of the word of God Hosea 4:6 says " My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge..."

My church is a non-denominational word of faith. The Christian Center.

How about these thoughts

Who or what do you follow ----->
1 Cor.3:1 - 9

:( :?
Do you think this might be a guide to the the way we look at the object,

which we follow or the person, group, fellowship, or church setting.???

What has this to do with the percieved differences between such

groupings??

What could WE do about it if this is an important point for reference????

Gideon-----
I go alone with your idea/suggestion that Body/church ''has it all right''. :shade:

Do we/you believe that God has kept things this way to keep us from complacency.
Has He created a wonderful tapestry/puzzle so that we might one day realise that we need one onother for His purposes. :lightbulb
Please don't ask me what!

They be one...this is the prayer of Jesus..

Jesus prayed that they may be one as we are one...so unity of the church is the need of the time...there can be no perfect prayer without loving one another...Praying man is a loving man and loving man is a praying man...:secret:

I voted for prayer but I also believe one of the greatest needs is discipleship/mentoring. Much of the Bible teaching given lacks explaination of how we apply the truth of God's Word into our everyday lives.

The church needs more of everything, but I think internal care of a congregation's members needs the most attention - why?

1. Keeping the congregation close together helps strengthening the individual members and directly the congregation.
2. Less people will backslide when you have better support from your fellow Christians. Cell groups in a congregation become more than friends, they become like family.
3. Having a sound core in your church will be noticed by the masses and they would like to see what this caring community is like - reaching people through actions/example.
4. Having cell meetings will increase prayer, byble study and charity (cell groups tend to tackle charity projects as a team.)

how about more commitment to God? Alot of people i know think that being a Christian is more of a 9-5 job rather than a way of life 24/7. I think us having more commitment to God would wipe all these situations off the map. the more we pray, the closer we are. the closer we are, the more we feel. the more we feel, the more we do for Him

I think that the biggest need in the Church is more outreach programs. There's nothing wrong with the body of belivers/church congregation benefiting from its services within. But Imagine how much of an imapact it would make to include others in the mix.

Not only would we be a helping hand to those with physical needs (food, clothing, and shelter), but we would also be a vessel to introduce people to Jesus-who can handle every need.

I Think this would advance God's kingdom the most.

I said that Greater sense of the Holy Spirit's leading and direction is the most important. With this comes prayer and many of the other things listed above.

I think learning more about the Bible is something we should do on our own time.

Anyway, everyone has their own opinion!

Thank you for posting this brother!

I would say a greater sense of the Holy Spirit's leading and direction.

If all of us knew what God was saying, all the other points would follow.

I wonder what happened to spiritual discernment? It's frustrating to read about this denomination and that denomination. This is what they believe and this is what I believe.

The Pharisees had God's word and thought everything Jesus did was the work of the devil.

1 Kings 3:9 - So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong...

King Solomon had God's word and still asked God give him a discerning heart to distinguish what was right and wrong. We all need more discernment!!!

I use to hate going to forums because there was always people arguing over scripture. One guy had his scriptures to support his point and the other had his scripture to support his point and back and forth they go. Hating each other more and more because they both can't be right. <cough> pride <cough> <cough>

Warning: If you see two Pharisees arguing over scripture - stay away. You're not going to convince a Pharisee. Jesus did a lot of miracles in plain view of them and they were not convinced. Your fancy scriptures aren't going to suddenly open their eyes. Eventually, when the two Pharisees meet they will kill each other and the rest of us can go back to loving Jesus again. :)

Heb 5:11-14

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. KJV

Too much feel good stuff and not enough doctrine or discernment.

I believe a church needs more knowledge of the Bible. When we have knowledge of the Bible things like prayer, direction of the Holy Spirit and etc will fall into place. The Word of God is Powerful!

Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." KJV

Sheep9999, there is only one truth not many so yes there will be debates over scripture until Christ's retyurn but what did Paul say about the Bereans? They were more nobler than those of Thessalonica because they searched the Scripture daily to see fi these thngs were so. We are called to study, mark them who cause divisions, reject heretics, reprove, rebuke and exhort but you can only do that properly if you know the truth of Scripture.

We could eliminate a bulk of differences between the denominations with acceptance of just one doctrine. The Church and Isreal are separate entities. Because so many have tried to blend the two we have had a lot of doctrinal differences. You can't put new wine in old bottles.

Just once and for all getting that one straight would be tremendous.

Baptism would be another one. There is no place in Scripture for infant baptism and the word baptize means to dunk. All mainline denominations suffer from that flaw. Indeed, Luther, Wesley and Knox a least said that immersion was the proper mode but old habits die hard.

Those two doctrines alone will separate us and there are many more but the truth is in there not out there. It's in the book and it is simple. Theologians make it hard.

I voted closer relationships in the church as the culture in which Americans live wares us down. It is important to have the elderly in the Lord impacting the younger and the younger blessings upon the smaller and on.

The only need in the Church is

more prayer, The Christians most powerful resource is communion with GOD through prayer. The results are often greater than we thought were possible James 5:17.
We cannot spend all our time on our knees, but it is possibleto have a prayerful attitude at all times. This attitude is built upon acknowledging our dependence on GOD, realizing HIS presence within us (where the Church is), & determining to obey Him. I Thess 5:17

Without true doctrine the relationships are vain.

We bought into the age group and singles and married classes and all sorts of stuff that was proposed by a Communist to create the the generation gaps so tha the young could be indoctrinated to reject their parent's teachings and cling to their peer group. Hmm, sound like Rehoboam syndrome. So when do the young get to be with the elders since we gear everything to age groups and categories.

The one room school house was the best learning environment because the older students learn to care for and mentor the younger and the younger learned to look to and respect the older ones. There should at least only be one adult class so that the younger and elder can interact since they are taught the same Bible and the answers are the same.

Without the proper teaching on prayer and being grounded in many other doctrines prayer is just a waste of breath. There is in any given moment more prayer in Hell than on earth but there is no fruit to that prayer and very little in most prayers on earth. Rosaries and that Evangelical substitute, Jabez' prayer, are good examples but in this "it's all about me" age many other prayers are fruitless.
