Greetings
@Andyindauk
I would really caution against guessing from whence the antichrist and false prophet might arise and allow that to colour our views and dealings with any particular country.
I've heard preachers put forward and passionately preach on other likely sources of the beginnings of the end of the world including the Catholic church and the EU. For that reason I still voted remain
One thing's for sure, even second coming experts aren't aware of dozens of Bible passages that unbeknown to us are actually prophetic in the same way that Jesus revealed prophecies to the experts of His day. For example, giving Jesus vinegar to drink,
They also gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Psalms 69:21 NKJV
Who at the time would have thought that was a prophecy? I do know that when it's closer the unfolding events will be unmistakable.
We as Christians need to focus more on the here and now and concentrate on being that light of the world.
Andy, I didn't make any comment whence the antichrist and false prophet might arise, I did however generalise on the final battle suggesting Russia, Rosh as the bear from the north and China from the east.
Allow me to share my thoughts regarding these latter days, based on what Jesus said.
Matthew 24:4-8 (NIV2011)
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.
5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.
6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
Mark 13:5-8 (NIV2011)
5 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you.
6 Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many.
7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
Verse 8 is one of the most important verses for the period we are looking at, end times as we know are the last 2000 tears, latter days are towards the end of the period.
Jesus uses a wonderful description here, he quotes many things that will happen towards the end, but also says the end is yet to come.
A pregnancy as we know is around nine months, the nine month period any woman knows, any nurse or doctor knows, is divided into three periods, each of approximately three months. Now the nine months and the three almost equal periods are not important time wise, but the three stages of a pregnancy used by our Lord is very important. As we know the first three months of a pregnancy little is seen, the second three months a lot more is seen, and the final three months continues from the second until the birth pains, or birth pangs. When the birth pangs start it is near the end but the end is still to come.
I believe that the pregnancy stage started, was conceived on 14 May 1948 when Israel became a state again. The initial period of the pregnancy is the little shows, it wasn't until the late 1950's early 1960's that things really started to change, free speech, free sex, flower power, anything goes, including clothing getting shorter and shorter, tighter and tighter. There have always been wars, but then started rumours of wars, increase in earth quakes and pestilences, famines and earthquakes which statistically have become more frequent and more severe.
We saw the Berlin wall come down, we have seen China grow, in 1967 there was the 6 day war, Israel was surrounded on all sides, their military and military availability was a fraction of those that surrounded them but miraculously they won.
As the period of pregnancy ran from the second part to the third we have seen massive changes, all confirmed by scripture, there will be a hardening of hearts, children will be disobedient to their parents, man will go with man and woman with women, there will be a form of Godliness without its attributes. People will be lovers of themselves not a lover of the one true God.
There is so much more as the period, described as a pregnancy continued.
Romans 1:26-32 (NIV2011)
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.
27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.
29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,
30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;
31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.
32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
2 Timothy 3:1-7 (NIV2011)
1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,
4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires,
7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
But as Jesus said...
We are without doubt in the final stages of the pregnancy, time is running out, the birth pangs are active, all the items relating to the birth pangs are visible now.
We don't have to listen to preachers claiming this or that, it is all in scripture.
As for Europe, I am aware you are referring to the statements regarding the second Roman Empire, whether this is right or wrong is debatable, it does reflect such by their way of controlling and governing. As for myself I vote 'out', and looking how they still try everything they can to control the UK, I still feel we are better out of the European union. But that is another topic I think.
Regarding your final comment Andy,
We as Christians need to focus more on the here and now and concentrate on being that light of the world. I agree with your comment, but also know scripture, all scripture, as been given so we know God's will, this includes the past that reflects the future, this means now, but it also means the fulfilment of prophesies in these latter days, birth pang days, close to the end days, definitely we are into the latter days of the pregnancy Jesus used to describe these times.
We are to keep our eyes on Jesus, we are to keep our lamps trimmed and filled with oil and be ready at all times for His Return in Glory. We are to love one another as He loves us, we are to work to bring others to Jesus, the pandemic, increase pestilence, gives us opportunities, people are frightened, many frightened for their life, many die without coming to know Jesus. The harvest is ripe brother but the workers are few.
Shalom
