Continuing on (red are my words, blue are yours):
The Bible tells us...
2 Cor. 6:17 "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, "
Not only do we "touch" it, we "honor" them by singing their songs.
Again, to him who considers it to be unclean, to him it is unclean. I prayed about it, God told me it wasn’t unclean, therefore, I don’t consider it unclean.
1 Cor. 14:15 "I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also."
Bible says to sing… doesn’t say which genre, doesn’t mention a rhythm-melody ratio, doesn’t say a heavy beat is wrong… just says to sing spiritually and with understanding, and I just happen to sing rock!
Christian music is not entertainment (I know this is unpopular but it is true). Christian music is spiritual "food". Real Christian music admonishes, while praising the Lord. It is not for evangelism either!
To say that having Christian messages within non-Christian based music is okay because you can bring people to Christianity through it very wrong. Not only because it cannot be combined (the Flesh and the Spirit), but because Christian music is not meant to be used for evangelism, but for the Christian community and the Praise towards God! We are to Preach to the lost, not lure them in with "feel-good" corrupt Christian music, which shouldn't be for them anyway!
Well I don’t use it for evangelism; I use it to praise God! But I know people who were brought to Christ through this music. What are you going to say to them? “You’re not really saved because you listened to that music!” Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand. Romans 14:4.
Colossians 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the LORD"
“Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the LORD”… No mention of beats, no mention of rhythm, no mention of melody… but songs, which include all three. Again, He doesn’t say, “the less the beat the more holy it is”, or, “the more the melody the more holy”. The Bible simply says songs. He doesn’t specify the rhythm-melody-harmony ratio. Just says “songs”, which includes all three. Rock/heavy metal includes all three, therefore, by your own definition, it qualifies as song.
Ephesians 5:19 "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the LORD;"
Again, He mentions melody (last), but also “hymns and spiritual songs, singing”. Don’t forget the rest of what the verse includes. It says “song and singing”. Rock/heavy metal includes all three components of a song, therefore it qualifies as song. And it has singing, therefore it qualifies as singing.
1 Cor. 1:21 "For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of Preaching to save them that believe."
"Music is NEVER used in Scripture as a means of reaching the lost." (Tim Fisher, The Battle for Christian Music, p.155)
Again, I use it to praise God! And if someone is introduced to Christ in the process, Praise God!
Christian music should emphasis and praise the Lord, not the music nor the musician!
Psalm 66:2 "Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious."
You cannot sing to "please men" and sing unto the Lord. It's one or the other!
Well, personally, I sing unto the Lord. I’ve never actually sung to anyone other than Him. And the bands I listen to also sing unto the Lord. A lot of their testimony says they really don’t care what anyone thinks of their music because it is not about pleasing man, but pleasing God. They don’t care about what the world says about their music, and they don’t care about what the church says about their music, because again, it’s not about pleasing men, but pleasing God. Kind of like how I don’t care about what you say about this music because again, I’m not trying to please men, but pleasing GOD!
Galatians 1:10 "For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ."
I don’t care what men think of my music. I don’t care if they like it or not. I don’t care if they think it wrong or not. All I care is that I glorify God with it… and again, I am convinced that I do, as are the bands I listen to.
When Christian musicians get too caught up with their music and just the "right-sound" they lose the plot! When it is more of a "performance" rather than a Christian message it has lost its Christian purpose and is fruitless. Unless you are not a Christian, then it is supplying your worldly/ fleshly needs.
Hmmm…. Well I can’t say I perform for people either. I just sing unto God. And I know it doesn’t have to sound just right (meaning it can be heavy on rhythm, or lost in melody) as long as it glorifies God.
Anyway, don’t these statements cancel each other out:
“Christian musicians get too caught up with their music and just the "right-sound" they lose the plot” : “True godly music will be composed of three elements - all in perfect balance.”
According to your statement, we should be more focused on God then creating the “perfect balance”. But the second says we ought to focus on creating the perfect balance. Confusing... but I’m gonna say they cancel each other out… Ergo, if it has too much rhythm, oh well! Doesn’t need to be perfect as long as it glorifies God.
