Is Heavy/Metal acceptable?

Greetings

Bro, everything is redeemed by our God in the cross of calvary even music,we know by hearts what is Glorifying the Lord.Worship is a matter of the heart not of music.Bro even screaming guitar is just a tool for our worship but God looks in the heart.remember the song the heart of worship.

Ecclesiastes 7:5. It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

God is fed up with all the electric noise. The kind of noise many are making under the guise of worship, only brings glory to the bands and their groupies.
Any sound that sounds like the world, looks like the world should should be avoided.

There is only one way to properly worship God.
Leviticus 10:10.
You shall make a distinction and recognize a difference between the holy and the common or unholy,and between the clean and unclean;

1John 2:15
Love not the world ,neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

You dont have to be the CEO of a major recording label to see,how many church going christians are influenced by their "god given right to rock n roll".

If worship is just a matter of your heart having the right motives, then why did God devour these men with fire when they introduced their own way of worship?
Leviticus 10:1-3.

The danger of contemporary singers today is that they are so enamored with their music and lyrics, and in their rush to please their fans they have forgotten the God of the bible.
This same God forbids tattooing and body piercings(Lev 20:28)and yet if you take a close look you will see that they not only practice all these but most of the men singers look more like girls with all the hairdoos.

First we must look at the root of where rock n roll got its origins. Now if you were to trace back where all this noise we call music came from you will find out that it got its beginings from some very ungodly folks.

But our hyms of the faith were birthed by God through men of God who sacrificed all and surrendered all for the glory of God.

The gospel is the power of God unto salvation, all other noise is sinking sand.

Ezekiel 33:31-33.
And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them:for with their mouth they show much love, but their hearts goeth after their covetousness.
And,lo,thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that has a pleasant voice, and can play well on the instrument:for they hear thy words, but they do them not.

And when this cometh to pass ,(lo it will come,)then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

It's a grievous sin when folk are more concerned about their way of worshiping God than falling on their faces to inquire of God.

I don't have the authority to declare that any kind of worship music is not of God because I don't know what's in the performers' hearts when they perform/record the piece. At my church, the worship ministry - staffed by skilled musicians and singers - uses a mix of old style and contemporay praise music and they work very effectively to build true worship and avoid the concert atmosphere.

Is Heavy/Metal acceptable? -

I have been thinking a lot abot Heavy Rock/Metal music lately.
I went to the youth group my children attend and was shocked at what I heard, it sounded as though the Devil was present.
The music was very heavy with screaming. What is the Christian world coming to when it allows this type of music in the Church.
The Church should be a beautiful place with the Lord's presence.
Shouldn't people be attracted to Christianity because of Jesus and his Power? But the Church is attracting young people by using this dreadful music.
I like the odd rock song myself, but there must be a line drawn somewhere. I just cannot see how this heavy, agressive screaming music can be used to give praise and worship to our wonderfull Creator.
Music is an expression of the soul.
From a soul occupied by the wonderfull Spirit of God comes beautiful music.
All music should reflect the fruits of the Spirit - Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self control Galations 5:22.
I don't believe Heavy Rock/Metal reflects these fruits. It demonstrates aggression, rebellion, depression, confusion etc and it distorts the soul of those who listen to it.
I would like to hear some comments on this.

I would hope that any one replying to this post knows what it is to have the Spirit of God within them in reality
and that they live with the fruits of the Spirit in their lives, otherwise their comments will be tainted heavily by the flesh
or the desires of the outward man.

I am particularly concerned when some of the bands sound as though demons are coming through their voice,
screeching and growelling. example - Demon Hunter who I have listened to.
This is not even up for discussion. If you can't see the error in this then something is wrong or you are an immature Christian.

Should I teach my 5 children to listen to this music? Would those that view these statements encourage me to steer them in this direction?
Should I corrupt the beautiful atmosphere in my home with heavy rock?
Should I allow these warped album covers in my home to produce warped feelings in my children? Should I teach my children to smash guitars on my floor while playing violent music? Should I encourage them to follow the image of these bands - I don't think so!

I am endeavoring to teach them to follow Jesus.

Greetings,

the above two quotes are the original posts and questions of this thread.

How far have we come in addressing these questions?

The subject, 'Heavy Metal' attracts attention, but the purpose is to determine what is good and beneficial and appropriate to teach our children with, and the example we give them of Christ Jesus the Lord.

As with all opinions, they fade when in the light of the glory of the Lord, and so let us see if we can address the Centre of our Lives regarding this topic, Jesus Christ, Who I am quite sure has His Word on the subject of raising children.

Please understand that while different tastes and doctrines abound, the forum is about Jesus, and we can all benefit by looking to Him for answers to even this thread's questions.

Bless you ....><>

Different variations of music, same method of worship

I listen to a lot of the screaming metal christian music and this is my reply: The "demonic" screaming is just an energetic and powerful means of getting the word about God throught the music, This is how I look at it, when they scream they are just shouting and putting as much energy into the words the band is preaching. When just saying the words with mixed notes and tones isn't enough, shout the lyrics to the lord and the good christians listening to the music. Example: When fans cheer their favorite sports team on at a sporting event, their cheers make the give the players the confidence to give it their all, The band is just throwing in the full power of their voices in with the full power of the words of God to make a music that is praises the lord gives the listener an adrenaline rush and creates an experience that is beyond words.

I think that now in days, there are more types of Christian music. I guess in a way to attract more people..teens in general.

I myself like rock and hard rock. :) Its fun.

AJS, I haven't taken the time to read all of the replies, but, having read the first few, I'd say that God gave your children to you to train up in the way of the Lord, so you must help them in that area, as only you can because God gave them to YOU.

What is in your heart . . . listen to it. Not what is in our hearts. Myself, I grew up on acid rock myself, but as I surrender my heart completely to Father, I am finding certain hard rock Christian bands/recordings not as pleasing as I did at first. I think the Holy Spirit is leading me in this, and He will also lead you, so carry on. You are your children's father, and as such, you need to guide them as Father guides you. I wish I'd had a father to guide me.

It's sometimes hard to discern, but some of them may secretly be thankful you won't allow them to listen to this music. We all have our tastes, but much of them are defined by what we learn over and over, and at their age, there is much peer pressure. Even if they have different tastes than their peers, they may feel pressured to go along with it and not be different. Remember, you have to develope a taste for beer. Few of my friends liked it at first taste.

Just my thoughts on the subject. God bless you as He leads you.

Keep on rocking if you are rocking for Jesus. If not then it is time for a change.
My sons listen to Christian metal. They are fine young men who love Jesus and I trust them to make sound choices. Of course that is something that you as a parent have to discern. I have found that if you keep them away from expressing themselves in their tastes they will rebel later so within Christian bounds I allow them freedom.
Answer this question:
Did you really want to hear the same music as your mom and dad when you were growing up? Most people would definitely say no.

I happen to think this is funny. Im not saying anything about it. But my mom would listen to really heavy rock and metal when I was in her. Often to the point that I was even kicking to the beat. I guess this is a reason why I like heavy rock and rock in general even now.

As far as music styles. As I tell my mom. I could be listening to much worse than this. (the world music now)

Music is an expression of the soul.

Indeed...and I agree with you....but

This is always central, the focus, the main item, the paramount.... absolute main theme....whatever the expression

In His Love

Yes Stephen, the theme and the message of the "song" may be Christ and His wonderful love, but if the listener cannot hear the words or understand the message due to the deafening music or the high level of screaming and yelling, then there is no glory brought to Him.

I truly do not believe that Christian heavy metal music is any different from secular heavy metal music. To me, Christian music should bring you to your knees. It should calm the heart, still the soul and bring you into a place where it's just you and Him. The heart is bowed and your voice lifted in worship and praise.

What sweeter pleasure; what greater privilege than to stand before Him in worship?

In the middle ages the church organ was often called the "devils bagpipes" by the religious folks of the day. Try to take them out of an old line church today- LOL.
Every major move of God in the history of the USA has been accompanied by a change in the style of worship. What pleases you and me may not be received by another and vice versa.
God is not scared away by loud music even if someone else does not life it and it is always the heart of the worship God looks on anyway.
What you and I cannot understand is clear to another so in my opinion it is merely a matter of personal preference.

when it comes to music. I listen to groups from southern gospel to contempary. I feel like what you feed yourself the spirit accepts...if it is good to the spirit it is feeding properly..the music of the world such as ac/dc and of that group is not for me... I gave up that kind of music when i sold out for christ..i want my heart to stay pure and what i listen to helps keep me focused..[high-light][/high-light]
