question: Is it sinful and vain for women to wear makeup? (Should Christian women wear makeup?)
answer: Christians are the Body of Christ.
looking from another angle: the Body is the temple (not a barn) made of living stones, perfect and entire, beautiful and no man should add to it or take from it
an eternal thing
mans opinions are foolishness and vain
the flesh wars against the spirit
all too often around the world both now and in history it can be seen and heard the covering of doctrines and opinions, marring the perfect living holy Word; the false appearance; the preaching and teaching followed by the following of followers; the using of opinions and the name of the Lord; for vanity and gain, for satisfying the lust of the flesh, be it the world or the individual, to cover the manpleasing and desires, the weaknesses and fears, the excuses used to deny reality, the easy road to destruction; pretending to be something they are not, falsity, corruption, conduct compromised and filthied with artificial displays of righteousness and a resulting holy show
unpure and hurtful or damaging results arise from defending a personal preference
reference to the Word offends some resulting in attacking others and jesting, mocking as in the last days
luring some into vain traditions, into deceitful arguments, to dead and ugly reasoning
some decide
to put the Word aside
to voice
their choice
and support it with made up convictions and reasonings
turning ugly in all they say and do and angry at those who don't
should we wear make-up to cover such things?
the real or greater sin appears to be in the devouring one another and using the name of the Lord to defend our natural man, our flesh
the flesh doesn't play gentle games of giggle and joke, but is deathly in its attack against the spirit, wanting to rule over self and others for pride and arrogance, for division and attention, for all manner of worldly lusts, which are both sinful and vain
brothers and sisters, these things ought not to be
let us proceed in love and put the priority and passion into defending the gospel preached unto you, if indeed you have heard and received it, and let the light of the glory of God in Jesus Christ the Lord be your only stimulation and reason, your judgement in matters such as these
put aside all filthy communication and conduct, let your speech be seasoned with salt, not pride or self or venom or despising or shame
be not ashamed of the gospel
defend it and live it
it is beautiful just the way it is
there is no need to hide behind any makeup, be it in conduct and words, in doctrines and teaching, in body and expression
if we would only ever present ourselves as the living sacrifices we are to be if we are to be found at His coming,
if we would only ever desire the truth to only ever be spoken or else hold our tongue, then as living stones, we may be presentable as the glorious Bride to the One Who has washed us and cleansed us and sanctified us and called us and redeemed us, Who looks upon the heart and not upon the outward man
can we dare to live a life that imitates our King
can we be so brave as to say no to perverting the Word for selfish promotion and can it be at all possible that if we do, we will find little or no need to indulge our faces in a covering that is just not us
Eve hid with Adam
why?
the Body is Christ
the reality is Christ
it's who you are in Christ that matters, not what you look like
does the body of Christ need improvement
all things are not profitable so why do them?
brothers and sisters, Jesus is Lord, whatever your response might be to the original question and your reply to others posts, uphold only the truth, forgetting personal opinion, and build each other up in truth
it appears here in this thread that a lot of people use verbal and intellectual make-up for their responses, trying to beautify what amounts only to their personal choice, and perhaps prove how vain and self indulgent the wearing of make-up can be
if that is sin, so be it
who are we trying to please?
what do the scriptures say?
perhaps the only scriptural endorsement for anything close to make-up is the anointing of your head when fasting
is that why so many wear make-up and approve of it?
Moses covered his face after spending time with the LORD
again, is that why you choose to cover your face
if you work in a funeral home it is the dead that are prettied up with make-up
not so you Christians
you are alive, living lively stones
let your confidence be in Christ Jesus the Lord and cease from being swayed by the world and dear brothers and sisters, sisters and brothers, use not worldly arguments to back your cause
the replies here in this thread (and others too) are no different from the same style and content that the world produces, the flesh that lusts against and wars against the spirit
don't make up excuses for doing what you do and never to impress others or win their attention
either do it or don't but speak only the Word to one another, edifying and building up
try a little fasting and a drawing near to the LORD and see if you find your reasons reasonable and valid
do it again
and again
the things of this world will grow strangely dim
be not divided and put on charity
1Corinthians 1:25-31
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
I encourage you all to read Romans Chapter 8
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Romans 8:7
