Is speaking in tongues necessary to be saved?

It never ceases to amaze me how non-Pentecostals claim to be authorities on Pentecostal faith and worship.
1Cor 13:1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

Hi Waggles. Not a salvation issue more of. How can we hear prophecy the tongue of God?

Possibly the non-Pentecostals they look to the foundation of the law found alone n Isaiah 28 spoken of revisited as a testimony against them in 1 Corinthians 14.

David said in the Psalms if they destroy the foundations of the doctrines what can the righteous in Christ do?

1 Corinthians 14.:21 in the law (Isaiah 28) it hath been written, that, `With other tongues and with other lips I will speak to this people, and not even so will they hear Me, saith the Lord;' so that the tongues (prophecy) are for a sign, not to the believing, but to the unbelieving; and the prophesy [is] not for the unbelieving, but for the believing

God Wants to Help His People, the foundation of the doctrine of the law revisited in 1 Corihtinans 14

(Isaiah 28: 9-13 The people say, “Who does he think he is trying to teach and explain his message to? Does he think we are babies who were at their mother’s breast only a very short time ago? He speaks to us as though we were babies:“Saw lasaw saw lasawQaw laqaw qaw laqawZe’er sham ze’er sham.” So God will use this strange way of talking, and he will use other languages to speak to these people.
In the past he spoke to them and said, “Here is a resting place. Let those who are tired come and rest. This is the place of peace.”But they would not listen to him. So the Lord’s words will be senseless sounds to them:“Saw lasaw saw lasaw.Qaw laqaw qaw laqaw.Ze’er sham ze’er sham.”When the people try to walk, they will fall backwards. They will be defeated, trapped, and captured.

21 in the law it hath been written, that, `With other tongues and with other lips I will speak to this people, and not even so will they hear Me, saith the Lord;'

22 so that the tongues are for a sign, not to the believing, but to the unbelieving; and the prophesy [is] not for the unbelieving, but for the believing

Joh 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Jesus referred to being born again (born of the Spirit) to a "well of water springing up into everlasting life"

Joh 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Joh 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

This is NOT being born again as Jesus said those who already believed on him "should" receive. Not that they will, but that they should receive. This is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. There is a big difference between a well springing up to everlasting life to a flowing river.

Speaking in tongues is not a requirement for salvation, but if one is not baptised (filled with the Spirit)
The power needed to accomblish the will of God would be very hard indeed. You shall receive "power" after the Holy Spirit has come upon you.

Living water, flowing water does represent a well springing up to everlasting life . It is contrasted with stagnant or gall, poisonous water like that of salt water . Salt speak of judgement .

Living water represents the gospel, the living abiding word. The gospel work of the Holy Spirit.

It is shown in Deuteronomy 32 in four ways .Drops as rain, distill as dew, small rain and showers to represent the baptism of the Holy Spirit not done with human hands.

Deuteronomy 32:2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

Green as with tender herb or grass is used throughout the scriptures to represent the born again believer.

Again contrasted against judgement

James 3:12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh

Tongues, the living word always represent prophecy the doctrines that fall, . Never senseless sounds. . they do not promote born again growth .

The new tongue the gospel follows after the unseen work of the Holy Spirit . It as the power of God can cast out the spirit of judgment . and if a believer would be under the teaching of false prophets referred to the poison of serpents .It will no affect them

Mark 16:17;18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

The sign spoken of in 1 Corinthians 14 spoke against of the spirit of judgment . it does not support clanging brass symbols, brass also represents the spirit of judgment.

Revelation 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

Joh 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Yes, Amen :)

As a minister I run into this situation a ton, or situations that relate to it :)
To answer the question directly, NO...you do not 'have to' speak in tongues to be saved.
BUT,
it SURE DOES HELP in your Christian walk!

1) So, to get through the "are tongues even for today" premise, I propose the following link :
Scientific Study on people talking in tongues
The link goes into quite some detail but the 'bottom line' is that those in the study 'can't understand how anybody does it' (talks in tongues..) because 'the sound that comes out of their mouth' DOES NOT come from the part of the brain where speech originates

2) Next, the following link has a lot of info but it also has specific further info on the details of 'speaking in tongues, how to ask for the gift of tongues, etc. etc."
Christian Resource Blog

Last, I realize that 'tongues' is a 'hot topic' in Christianity but as a minister I feel I "MUST" use every rooftop ["platform"] and proclaim the stuff I feel the Lord has taught me, to help folks [you know... the 'job' of a minister..to "help folks" :) ]

I don't know where you stand whoever is reading this post on "where we are in God's timetable' BUT..I think all would agree that the 'world stage' is SURE getting ramped up for some big things coming...

??

. . . and Jesus said , in Acts 1:8 " But ye shall receive POWER, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth"

. . . and Peter said in Acts 2:39 " The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

There is a big time spiritual war going on all around us and more and more of Gods people will simply need the "power" Jesus spoke of..in order to 'finish their own individual races the Lord has given to each of us..'

***

Lord, I pray in Jesus name you let this post go far and wide to help spread your Word and eliminate questions and confusion about the topic !!

Let Gods LOVE permeate this website !!

Amen ??

Tongues and prophecies ceased a long time ago. They were gifts given during the laying of the foundation, the foundation was finished being laid a long time ago.

1) Although you do not need to speak in tongues to be saved...the experience of speaking in tongues is STILL VERY much alive today. You see, God is STILL building His Church and He has not stopped that process . . . whatsoever !

The link previously given has numerous demonstrations of folks SPEAKING IN TONGUES, now, "today" . . .

Speaking in Tongues TODAY

Watch the video in the link.

They scientifically show that tongues does NOT come from the area of the brain that dictates language

2) And, in a 'word', If nothing else:

"For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." -Acts 2:39

Jesus is quoted here as saying that 'the promise' is for as many as God is calling . . .
. . . even those 'afar off' . . .

So, UNLESS God has 'stopped' calling people to Him...then the 'promise' is why folks still speak in supernatural tongues

Those that are far off were about the Gentiles. It is about how the Gentiles being able to be saved too.

I don't get persuaded by what people claim if it goes against the teaching in the Bible. I check every teaching out by the Bible, and tongues has ceased.

God already laid the foundation, He has already testified to the message, and tongues and prophecies have ceased, just like the scriptures say.

It matters not what you think - God has given the world in these last days a powerful Pentecostal revival the same as He did in the beginning.
I pray in tongues everyday as do all my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.
My church also operates the voice gifts of the Holy Spirit - tongues, interpretation and prophecy.
The other six gifts of the Holy Spirit are also readily available to the Spirit-filled church in abundance.
And scripture does not teach that these gifts have ceased nor does scripture teach that disciples can no longer pray in the Holy Spirit.

You know that no one can add to the scriptures, and that everything we are taught must line up with what the scriptures say.

The other six gifts of the Holy Spirit are also readily available to the Spirit-filled church in abundance.
And scripture does not teach that these gifts have ceased nor does scripture teach that disciples can no longer pray in the Holy Spirit.

I can prove with scripture that what I am saying is the truth.
God’s truth keeps us close to Him and Jesus Christ, not false practices where people fool themselves into feeling closer, such as with fake tongues.

Matt 24:35 "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away."

His words: And these signs shall follow them that believe; in My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; etc............. Mark 16:17

So who should we believe? Jesus or you?? Sounds like the Church of Christ stance on tongues. At all costs they've ceased because we don't have that ability!!!! They preach another
Jesus that didn't mean what He said!

Jesus' words don't pass away, and he says tongues and prophecies will cease.

That is to his Apostles. There are also no more Apostles.

I don't belong to any sect, only to Jesus Christ.

I responded to this thread for those who may be still trying to figure it out.

Listen to and watch the video/dtudy on tongues I have already linked to twice, on this thread.

The kingdom of God consists not in words but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.

Watch the link :)

God bless ALL !!

I only go by God'w written Word in the Bible.

Jesus' words don't pass away, and he says tongues and prophecies will cease.

You are correct tongues used to edify the Body of Christ will cease as well as prophecies, after the kingdom reign begins. However, the new creature within a born again son of
God speaks in an unknown tongue unto God, his Father, in private, even though he/she may not understand it yet.

Your use of WILL cease is dependent on when that spoken word takes effect. You say already. I say not until the reign begins. So we can agree to disagree??

No.,

Share the scriptures on this with us please.
1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
