Acts 18: 12-17

Now we see Apostle Paul in a city in Greece called "Achaia" for Jews had made a attacked on Paul right after we had just read in verse "9" where God told him not to be afraid in "Corinth" which was The Capital at that time. Now The Jews have launch a attack on him and bringing him to the Roman "Proconsul" to court, in front of "Gallio". and he said; you Jews have anything concerning The "ROMAN" government this man has broken ok, but he has done nothing against The Roman Government, So get out of here! And they left and "GOD's" People, jump on 'The Sosthenes [Crispus] right out side The Court and beat him up! And The Roman [Governor} did not say a word and he didn't care what those religious Jews diid!! Paul had not done any thing against "The Roman Government" to The Jews and they attack Him and "Sosthenes", Crispus, the synagogue ruler, who took Paul in and his entire household believed in "THE LORD" and many The Corinthians who heard him believe and were baptized;

Note:

Demons and the devil are real and crafty And he knows who the real Children of GOD are, For The Real Children of GOD has A mark on them and The devils and demons can see who they are. And when you "STAND" on The WORD of GOD, The Devil and the demons are going to Attack you with all their might and you are going to get wounded big time, InOrder to detour you next time. Because The Demons are going to get Mad, and That is one of "GODS" promises for A TRUE Child of THE LIVING GOD! and you will feel The PAIN. [it will seem, like others are "Bless" and you are Curse"] not so, But your reward will be great At The Reward Ceremony in Heaven" for that is what Heaven was made for! When all of The creatures of Heaven will look on, when your Father will place great Honor upon you because of all the evil and hurt and pain you endure by denying yourself and standing on "The Very "WORD of GOD" even when the Religious people "Spiritual stone you and "Spiritual beat you up"! [where there is no doubt but as plain as a "Little Child's toy'.]

Acts 18: 12-17 NIV84
12While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews of Corinth made a united attack on Paul and brought him to the place of judgment. 13“This man,” they charged, “is persuading the people to worship God in ways contrary to the law.”

14Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to them, “If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you. 15But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law—settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things.” 16So he drove them off. 17Then the crowd there turned on Sosthenes the synagogue leader and beat him in front of the proconsul; and Gallio showed no concern whatever.

Note: there are many times The Church will do more damage to the People of GOD much More than The Government will ever do.The Church with turn you over to The Government and demand your DEATH! and The Government will try to set you Free!

The Roman Government Tried To Set Him Free.
John 19 BSB
11Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed Me over to you is guilty of greater sin.” 12From then on,Pilate tried to release Him, but the Jews kept shouting, “If you release this man, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who declares himself a king is defying Caesar.”
So it was yesterday so it is today. But only Cloak in "deceptions". You cannot see it, "But GOD Can":pensive: and He will repay. For our Father is not "Jesus" nor is he a man.

Romans 12:19 KJV
New King James Version
Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.:pensive:

{whosoever mistreat you, whether male of female. sister or brother, they will not go unpunished, just do not "Avenge" yourselves. He knows them and he knows what they have done behind your back.

and if anyone has had loving and God fearing parents and had sisters and brothers, You know if you have been the oldest you know what your mother or father did to you if one got hurt. My little brother have never saw me do anything wrong, he never saw me smoke a cigarette or drink any kind of Alcohol or Beer or wine or Whiskey or anything wrong. And we both did wrong but he never saw me do, or curse or any bad thing, My Mother warn me, he will try to do what every I did. And if he gets hurt I am coming after you!!!! my mother meant Business! because she told me I was Tough! Whosoever spare the rod "HATES their CHILD" God does Not LIE, GODS LOVE IS NOT A FEELING! GOD LOVE IS DOING WHAT IS RIGHT IN THE EYES OF "THE GOD ALMIGHTY" and NOT MAN!!!!!!
Christians telling you, I do not whip my child because the government says so!!! it is against The LAW, But in the next Breath "we should obey God instead of the Government! " Nothing But big time cloak "HYPOCRITES"

CHRISTIANS DO NOT LIKE ME!
Your children are so well mannered! I put that rod on their behind, They will not be robbing your Mother or father and raping your grand mother and shooting up the Schools and killing little Kindergarteners. I bet you that much. You tear that behind up early! And put the fear of God in them Quick!

The church says do not fear GOD so the killers and the rapists, the
thieves, the liars, the police, the \Politicians, The Government, The Warlords, The Generals, The teachers and all genders do not Fear :THE GOD ALMIGHTY,
Because The Church Told The Whole World God Is No One To Fear!!!!!!!!

So they are going to kill your mothers and fathers They are going to kill your children and Grand children They are going to kill your brothers and sisters because the Church has told them GOD LOVES YOU JUST AS YOU ARE!

You can sleep with anybodies husband, wife , little child ,whether boy or girl it does not matter, GOD is a good GOD he will not send you to hell and There is No Lake of FIRE that you will suffer through out all eternity! So it is ok To kill for we all are going to heaven or he
will place you into non existence. The people of This world will get what they want, they do not want God to RULE over THEM! "The Restraints" are coming off!

Give the people what they want.

And everyman did what was right, in their own eyes

Acts 18: 18-28 NIV84, KJV
It seems that in this latter part of this chapter of this historical act of the Apostles "Apollos" is very Interesting leading up to verse 24. Him in "Ephesus" and Then on to how he wanted to go to "Achaia" and the brothers also encouraged him to. For they even wrote to the brothers in "Achaia" to welcome him. For He was a very Learned man, and He knewThe Old Testament very well that He could teach and Show those "JESUS" in The Old Testament and "he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus "Accurately" though he knew only the baptism of John. But "Priscilla and Aquila" invited him to their home explain to Him "The Way" of God "more" adequately and went on to "ACHAIA" and when he got to "ACHAIA" "He Vigorously refuted The Jews in Public DEBATE!:eyes::eyes: and those of today would not dare even debate about "Jesus Christ" behind close doors let alone Speak and debate in Public! But they say they are just like "Jesus Christ" for they claim to be a christian, by their own private interpretation, yet they deny HIM, behind close doors and would not Dare debate in Public, Vigorously!

And they hate those who do!:pensive: and you can tell, by the fumes they expelled! and they think, that GOD cannot tell:pensive:

And so many think that they will not hear these words eating them up "for their worms will not die" But these very words will constantly be gnawing on them throughout all eternity.

King James Bible
"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Acts 18: 18-28
18And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow. 19And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. 20When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not; 21But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
22And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.

23And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
24And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. 26And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly. 27And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace: 28For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
Acts 18:28

New International Version

Acts 19: 1-10
1While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when a you believed?”

They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

3So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”

“John’s baptism,” they replied.

4Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues b and prophesied. 7There were about twelve men in all.

8Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. 9But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. 10This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.

(Act 19:13)

* The roving Jews, 'took upon them', in their capacity as exorcists, to use the name of Jesus, in their attempt to exorcise evil spirits from a man. The words, 'I adjure you', is the formula used for casting out a demon. To get control over a demon it was necessary to know its name (cp Mark 5:9) or to invoke the name of a superior power or spirit. So they used the name of Jesus, for they had heard Paul preach in His Name, and undoubtedly saw the miraculous works which God had performed by his hand in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

* What is impressing itself upon me are the words used by these men, 'We adjure you by Jesus Whom Paul preacheth'. This action of theirs was self-chosen, they were acting on their own volition, and when they used the name 'Jesus', they followed it with the words, 'Whom Paul preacheth', which seems to put distance between themselves and the Lord Jesus Christ: they did not acknowledge His Lordship, or acknowledge Him for themselves, using His name only by proxy, 'Whom Paul preacheth'. It just comes across so disrespectfully.

Acts 19: 21-41 NIV84

I am going to point a few things out here, for this section alone is a very interesting and it is a sure snap shot of todays arena for my point of view.
You can see that Apostle Paul, sure enough, cast "Riotings" in this city for throughout Asia Minor he was known as A Rioter of peace and always disturbing the peace. now The City call " Ephesus" was a Greek city loaded will all kinds of Greek Gods and Goddesses and Greek Churches and throughout Greece they made a lot of money, Greek employments in making all kinds of "Greek Paraphernalia" which as and is more Prevalent today that brings in "Millions and millions" of dollars from the Pockets and purses of "Christianity' especially of Profession black women who worship More Greek GODs than that of Jesus and

of The GOD the FATHER in Christian Churches. who are praise by all organizations for the Greek God whom they serve and dedicated their lives even into All Eternity by oaths and bow down knees with hoods over their heads with lit candles and strange tongues like language in the name of their Greek GOD. And I Lie Not And These Black Pastors Do Too! And at the same time claiming Jesus is Jesus! and christianity are praising these "Infidels" and they got the nerve to call me a devil while they are praising people who are worshipping devils and Demons with bow down knees and talking in Tongues with a Black hood over their head! they running the whole country in the White House, and all the other houses and they can lie.

American Standard Version
And they will deceive every one his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves to commit iniquity.

Sodom and Gomorrah, look like a family picnic compared to these people.

Acts 19: 21- 41 NIV
21After all this had happened, Paul decided d to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia. “After I have been there,” he said, “I must visit Rome also.” 22He sent two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, to Macedonia, while he stayed in the province of Asia a little longer.

The Riot in Ephesus

23About that time there arose a great disturbance about "The Way". 24A silversmith named Demetrius, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought in a lot of business for the craftsmen there. 25He called them together, along with the workers in related trades, and said: “You know, my friends, that we receive a good income from this business. 26And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that gods made by human hands are no gods at all. 27There is danger not only that our trade will lose its good name, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited; and the goddess herself, who is worshiped throughout the province of Asia and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty.”:eyes: {She divine alright]

28When they heard this, they were furious and began shouting: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” 29Soon the whole city was in an uproar. The people seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia, and all of them rushed into the theater together. 30Paul wanted to appear before the crowd, but the disciples would not let him. 31Even some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, sent him a message begging him not to venture into the theater.

32The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most Of The People Did Not Even Know Why They Were There:laughing:. 33The Jews in the crowd pushed Alexander to the front, and they shouted instructions to him. He motioned for silence in order to make a defense before the people. 34But when they realized he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison For About Two Hours: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

35The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: “Fellow Ephesians, doesn’t all THE WORLD KNOW that the city of Ephesus is The Guardian Of The Temple Of The Great Artemis And Of Her Image, Which Fell From Heaven? 36Therefore, since these facts are undeniable, you ought to calm down and not do anything rash. 37You have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed temples nor blasphemed our goddess. 38If, then, Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a grievance against anybody, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. They can press charges. 39If there is anything further you want to bring up, it must be settled in a legal assembly. 40As it is, we are in danger of being charged with rioting because of what happened today. In that case we would not be able to account for this commotion, since there is no reason for it.” 41After he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.

Those Greek worshipper of Greek God And Goddesses they got today they are judges lawyers, Doctors, Dentist, and Police Captains!! Black men are scared of their own wives! And they got y'all in their Targets too! Yes they do, and you going help them. How The Mayor of The City married to another who is The Police Chief. I going to sit down in chair and wait for "Jesus", and stay out of their way!

'And after the uproar was ceased,
Paul called unto him the disciples,
and embraced them,
and departed
for to go into Macedonia.'
(Act 20:1)

* What comes to my mind, @PloughBoy, is the truth that:-

'... God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, ... ... ... ' (1Cor. 14:33a) :pensive:

* Yet for all the opposition, and the confusion caused by the population, the name of the Lord Jesus Christ was still magnified, and the word of God still prevailed.

Praise God!

So true and I do know that I know of Nothing that he have not define, is there only one creator of All things and definitions it there be any if it had not been a law I would have not known law.

is it not strange that we can define when God is good and when he is bad, one might say, Killing Pharoah and all the babies in Egypt the 1st. born was good on God's part and all the horses and all the kings men the fathers and mothers but on other occasions if some one dies or are murder by armies that was the devil is it not strange how we decide.

These going before tarried for us at Troas.
.. And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread,
.... and came unto them to Troas in five days;
...... where we abode seven days.'
(Act 20:1-6)

Hi there,

Paul has many fellow-helpers on this journey it seems, Luke among them of course. His plans being changed by circumstance by a Divine hand: Luke remains with Paul, while the others go before to Troas, Paul staying at Philippi until after the days of unleavened bread, before sailing on to Troas. His chief purpose being one of 'exhortation', among the believing companies visited on-route.

My mind is stayed on the word, 'exhortation': for that word is used also of the Lord Jesus Christ, in (Luke 3:18):- 'And many other things in His exhortation preached He unto the people.' The word means to intreat, and is translated elsewhere,' comfort', 'consolation' and 'entreaty'. Exhortation is spoken of by Paul as a gift of the Spirit in Romans 12:8. on a par with prophecy, or ministry. So it must not be undervalued: for all is done to the glory of God.

In 1 Thessalonians 2, we are given insight into the form that this exhortation took, and the manner and spirit in which it was executed, for it tells us that it is possible to perform exhortation out of deceit, uncleanness and guile: but Paul assures the Thessalonians that the spirit in which he and his fellow-workers performed it, was not as men-pleasers, but God (Who tries the heart, and therefore our motivations), the content of the exhortation was the truth of the gospel of God; Therefore he did not use flattery, or covetousness, nor sought glory for himself, or burdened those he ministered unto, but was gentle, giving of his very self: behaving justly, in holiness and unblameably toward those to whom he ministered.

Paul said to Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:13, ' ... ... be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine ... ... .' What a high bar this standard reaches, doesn't it? For it is God's service that we are engaged in: whether we wait at table, or minister the word, all is to be done to the glory of God.

May His Name be Praised!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

'For ye have brought hither these men,
which are neither robbers of churches,
nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.
Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him,
have a matter against any man,
the law is open, and there are deputies:
let them implead one another.'
(Act 19:37-38)

Hello again,

When reading Acts 19, the verses above caught my eye. and gave me food for thought. For when Demetrius the silversmith stirred up the people (19:24-28), because of the potential of loss of earnings on his part, at the preaching of Paul: he said truthfully, that Paul preached that, 'they be no gods, which are made with hands.' This resulted in uproar out of religious fervour among the worshippers of the goddess Diana.

The Townclerk, in an attempt to bring order said the words, quoted above, concerning Gaius and Aristarchus, whom, he said, had not blasphemed the goddess Diana, nor sought to cause damage to their churches. It was this fact which resulted in their release from custody. This gives an insight into the manner and spirit in which these believers ministered. They did not pour scorn upon those who worshipped the goddess, neither did they speak against the goddess itself, but instead spoke the truth concerning idols made with hands, and delivered the truth of the gospel message.

There is much that we can learn from this in our dealings with those of other faiths, isn't there? To confine ourselves to witnessing to the truth of the gospel, and not seek to undermine or discredit the teaching of the prophet or idol they worship which will only stir up religious fervour and indignation. For it is the word of God, that will not 'return unto (Him) void'

'So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth:
it shall not return unto me void,
but it shall accomplish that which I please,
and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.'
(Isa 55:11)

Praise God!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus

'As for Saul, he made havock of the church,
entering into every house,
and haling men and women
committed them to prison.'
(Act 8:3)

'But the Lord said ... ... ... he is a chosen vessel unto Me,
to bear My name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for My name's sake.'
(Act 9:15-16)

'And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord,
.. Who hath enabled me,
.... for that He counted me faithful,
...... putting me into the ministry;
Who was before a blasphemer,
.. and a persecutor,
.... and injurious:
...... but I obtained mercy,
........ because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant
.. with faith and love
.... which is in Christ Jesus.
...... This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation,
........ that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners;
.......... of whom I am chief.
Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy,
.. that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering,
.... for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on Him
...... to life everlasting.
Now unto the King
.. eternal,
.... immortal,
...... invisible,
........ the only wise God,
be honour and glory for ever and ever.
Amen.'
(1Tim. 1:12-17)

Praise God!

'And upon the first day of the week,
when the disciples came together to break bread,
Paul preached unto them,
ready to depart on the morrow; continued his speech until midnight.
And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.
.. And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus,
.... being fallen into a deep sleep:
...... and as Paul was long preaching,
........ he sunk down with sleep,
.......... and fell down from the third loft,
............ and was taken up dead.
And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said,
.............. Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
When he therefore was come up again,
and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while,
even till break of day, so he departed.
................ And they brought the young man alive,
.................. and were not a little comforted.
And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul:
for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot.
And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.
And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios;
and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium;
and the next day we came to Miletus.
.. For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus,
.... because he would not spend the time in Asia:
...... for he hasted, if it were possible for him,
........ to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.'
(Act 20:7-16)

* 'And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:'
(Act 19:11)

'And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.
And when they were come to him, he said unto them,
Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia,
after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,
Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations,
which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you,
but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks,
repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.'
(Act 20:17-21)

'And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem,
not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city,
saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
But none of these things move me,
neither count I my life dear unto myself,
so that I might finish my course with joy,
and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus,
to testify the gospel of the grace of God.'
(Act 20:22-24)

'And now, behold, I know that ye all,
among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God,
shall see my face no more.
Wherefore I take you to record this day,
that I am pure from the blood of all men.
For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.'
(Act 20:25-26)

'Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock,
over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers,
to feed the church of God, which He hath purchased with His Own blood.
For I know this, that after my departing
shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Also of your own selves shall men arise,
speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
Therefore watch, and remember,
that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears'
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of His grace,
which is able to build you up,
and to give you an inheritance
among all them which are sanctified.
(Act 20:28-32)

'I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel.
Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak,
and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus,
how He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him,
Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more.
And they accompanied him unto the ship.'
(Acts 20:33-38)

--------------------

* Paul said, 'I have not shunned to declare unto you all the council of God' (v.26).
Paul had declared to the Ephesian church all the council of God that he himself had received. Yet there was more yet to come, which Paul would receive by revelation from the risen Lord (Acts 26:16), and make known both in person, and by means of the written epistles he would write as, 'The Lord's Prisoner'.

These are, the epistles to the Ephesians, Philippians, & Colossians, 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon; which were all written during that period. Making known the further truth of The Mystery, revealed through the risen Lord to Paul, concerning the church which is the Body of Christ, of which the Lord is it's Head. This further truth rests on the foundational truths of Romans 5:12-8:39.

'And it came to pass,
that after we were gotten from them, (the Ephesian Elders) and had launched,
we came with a straight course unto Coos,
and the day following unto Rhodes,
and from thence unto Patara:
And finding a ship sailing over unto Phenicia, we went aboard, and set forth.
Now when we had discovered Cyprus,
we left it on the left hand, and sailed into Syria,
and landed at Tyre: for there the ship was to unlade her burden.'
(Act 21:1-3)

'And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days:
who said to Paul through the Spirit,
that he should not go up to Jerusalem.
And when we had accomplished those days,
we departed and went our way;
and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children,
till we were out of the city:
and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.
And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship;
and they returned home again.'
(Act 21:4-6)

'And when we had finished our course from Tyre,
we came to Ptolemais,
and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.
And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed,
and came unto Caesarea:
and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist,
which was one of the seven;
and abode with him.
And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.
And as we tarried there many days,
there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
And when he was come unto us,
he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet,
and said, "Thus saith the Holy Ghost,
So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle,
and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles."
(Act 21:7-11)

'And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place,
besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.
Then Paul answered, "What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart?
for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem
for the name of the Lord Jesus."
And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying,
"The will of the Lord be done."
And after those days we took up our carriages,
and went up to Jerusalem.'
(Act 21:12-15)

* This reminds me of the well meaning words of Peter, and the Lord's response in Matthew 16:21-23:-

'From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto His disciples,
.. how that He must go unto Jerusalem,
.... and suffer many things
...... of the elders and chief priests and scribes,
........ and be killed,
.......... and be raised again the third day.
Then Peter took Him,
.. and began to rebuke Him,
saying,
"Be it far from Thee, Lord: this shall not be unto Thee.!
But He turned, and said unto Peter,
.. "Get thee behind Me, Satan:
.... thou art an offence unto Me:
...... for thou savourest not the things that be of God,
........ but those that be of men."

* The Holy Spirit was warning of what was to become of Paul at Jerusalem, but not in order to prevent him from going there. Paul had received his instruction from the Lord and was walking in accordance with it. He knew that imprisonment awaited him for the Holy Spirit had told him in advance, and yet he would not allow that to dissuade him from proceeding on the course set before him. Like our Lord Himself, Who knew He must be about His Father's business, so Paul knew that he must obey the instruction he received from His risen Lord.

* May we also be of the same mind, of the same spirit. For His Name and Glory's sake. Amen.

Acts 21:16-40:-

'There went with us also certain of the disciples of Caesarea,
and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus,
an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.
And when we were come to Jerusalem,
the brethren received us gladly.'
(Acts 21:16-17)

'And the day following Paul went in with us unto James;
.. and all the elders were present.
.... And when he had saluted them,
...... he declared particularly what things God had wrought
........ among the Gentiles by his ministry.
And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord ..., '
(Acts 21:18-20a)

' ... and said unto him,
.. 'Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe;
.... and they are all zealous of the law:
...... And they are informed of thee,
........ that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses,
.......... saying that they ought not to circumcise their children,
............ neither to walk after the customs.
What is it therefore?
.. the multitude must needs come together:
.... for they will hear that thou art come.'
(Acts 21:20b-22)

'Do therefore this that we say to thee:
.. We have four men which have a vow on them;
.... Them take, and purify thyself with them,
...... and be at charges with them,
........ that they may shave their heads:
and all may know that those things,
.. whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing;
.... but that thou thyself also walkest orderly,
...... and keepest the law.'
(Acts 21:18-24)

'As touching the Gentiles which believe,
.. we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing,
.... save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols,
...... and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.'
(Acts 21:25)

'Then Paul took the men,
and the next day purifying himself with them
entered into the temple,
to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification,
until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.'
(Act 21:26)

'And when the seven days were almost ended,
.. the Jews which were of Asia,
.... when they saw him in the temple,
...... stirred up all the people,
........ and laid hands on him,
Crying out, "Men of Israel, help:
.. This is the man,
.... that teacheth all men every where
...... against the people,
........ and the law,
.......... and this place:
............ and further brought Greeks also into the temple,
.............. and hath polluted this holy place.
(For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian,
whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)
................ And all the city was moved,
.................. and the people ran together:
.................... and they took Paul,
...................... and drew him out of the temple:
........................ and forthwith the doors were shut.'
(Act 21:27-30)

'And as they went about to kill him,
.. tidings came unto the chief captain of the band,
.... that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.
...... Who immediately took soldiers and centurions,
........ and ran down unto them:
.......... and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers,
............ they left beating of Paul.
Then the chief captain came near,
.. and took him,
.... and commanded him to be bound with two chains;
...... and demanded who he was,
....... and what he had done.'
(Act 21:31-33)

'And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude:
.. and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult,
.... he commanded him to be carried into the castle.
...... And when he came upon the stairs,
........ so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers
.......... for the violence of the people.
............ For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, "Away with him."
And as Paul was to be led into the castle,
.. he said unto the chief captain, "May I speak unto thee?"
.... Who said, "Canst thou speak Greek?
...... Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar,
........ and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?"
But Paul said," I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus,
.. a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city:
.... and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.
...... And when he had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs,
........ and beckoned with the hand unto the people.
.......... And when there was made a great silence,
............ he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying, ... ... ... '
(Act 21:34-40)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

* Oh my! What a storm of opposition Paul met, didn't he? He didn't have to wait long for the prophecies which had been made concerning him to begin to come to fruition. Beginning with the believing Jews, who because zealous of the law, were angry with Paul; having heard biased reporting concerning him. The Elders, having heard his own report, concerning His ministry, had glorified God on the basis of it, and the fruit that it bore; but were concerned that the fervour of these believing Jews, who would want to congregate to hear him, could result in him coming to harm. So they arranged a means whereby he could silence his accusers, by showing that he was indeed one who, as a believing Jew himself, observed the law, and walked uprightly.

Yet it also provided opportunity. God would take care of Paul, as He had taken care of Jeremiah, and the other prophets of the Old Testament, in the face of violent opposition; all Paul had to do, was to trust and not be afraid, and speak forth the truth of the gospel that had been committed unto Him, as opportunity presented itself.

We have been given many precious promises, in Christ Jesus our Lord; and we too must trust and not be afraid, but walk forward resolutely, believing, that what God says He will assuredly do. :)

May His Name be Praised!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris
