Ms Honeybare:

1) Thanks for the response.

2) Thanks for pointing out my typo; sorry!
3) Yes I understand your thinking more now, thanks.

4) Not badgering; was just the theme of the thread, I guess.

God bless you richly.

Farouk, I simply felt it was not going to be pleasing to Father to go in and have either a tattoo or to get a piercing. Father knows my weakness, so because He knows me better than even I know myself, I simply trust Him and obey. Adornment is a weakness I didn't know I had, and one that could trip me up and cause sin to come into my life.

I have shared this before, and perhaps it will help you to understand better by sharing it with you. In my past, and even shortly after I was saved, I had a weakness for other men besides my husband. I could not understand why this continued to happen, even after my commitment to Christ. I prayed about it, and the Holy Spirit spoke to me and told my why. In my spirit, I heard, "If you don't want to be tempted, then don't be a temptress." I immediately realized I needed to change my wardrobe and started to pay attention to what I was wearing, not to cause distraction, you know?

Not that having a tattoo, or another piercing would be wrong, but for me, it was a distraction from my focus on getting to know Father better. Also, I had recently become a donator to a Gospel for Asia missionary, and it hit me in that respect also. My money should be spent sending someone to win souls, not wasted on something as vain as a tattoo or piercing.

I am not trying to say others should think in this same way at all. What they do with thier bodies, and with their money is entirely up to them. It's just what Father spoke to me personally, that is all I can say. Do you think this was foolish, Fourok? Why do you keep badgering me about it? Sorry, maybe that is not your intent. By the way, it's HoneyBare, not bear.

im gonna make a confession here.

i have tattoos. then one day as someone was ministering to me they said God didnt want me to do that anymore. i was talking about getting another tat. i asked where in the bible does it say it. later God showed me this scripture...

Lev 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

any marks is a tatoo. now as far as piercings, well i got to make another confession about my past. i always thought piercings was not wise cuz they could get ripped out in a fight. so i never got any. so if it is wrong i never got or didnt get a rebuke for that. plus i just dont like/want and piercings.

e:

What do you think of a tattoo (or jewelry) with a faith based design?

Take care.

If we look at this closely, we can see were instructed to basically not be of, or do the things of this world. Now we gotta look at what the "world" see's or uses piercings/tattoos for and what they signafy.

When we look around town, movies, prisons, etc. Piercings/tattoos can be a cultural thing, they can be a rebelious thing, they can be a status thing, and they can be something to signify an affiliation(gangs, prison, etc. Or many like to feel the pain ( masacists, emo's etc.) But if we look at it closely we see the so called world considers tattoos/piercing are related to basically things that many fear, or more often than not bad things. With that in mind, and hopefully all groups covered, my question is. 1. When has someone thought of Christianity when they heard/seen a tattoo or piercing? I have not personally, but im in no position to assume or judge anyone, as we all should be. But rather, when we hear of tattoos/piercings the majority of us invision either cultural people, bikers, gangs, rebels etc.

Im opening this discussion cause its very, very hard to tell who is who, and/or why they have these things on theyr bodies. And would like anyone interested to think and discuss this further, and look at what these things signify and how the Lord God views it and then how the world views and uses it.

I know im being more of a reporter type in this discussion, but i believe subjects of this type and manner are more and more popular as is the crowd and wave of how things are these days, and i would like more of use to educate ourselves with scripture more. (Even thou i have none stated sorry.) Not tryin to offend but help.

I agree, there are important elements to what you say. The world is at enmity with the Christian on his or her faith pilgrimage.

But take for example the Old Testament practice of bondservants piercing their ear if they wanted to serve willingly instead of being released? Ps 40 and Philippians 2 have this as part of the background, in relation to the perfect servant. So I find it hard to say categorically that for a man to pierce his ear is inherently wrong, even though today's customs might not relate this directly.

Or take for example a lady whose ex-bf's name is tattooed. She is converted and wants to put the past behind her, and chooses to have the tattooed word 'Bill' made into another word such as 'Bible'. Again, I would find it hard to say it is wrong in the circumstances.

Dear Beloved,

I would like to knwo if to live as most of Young people are now doing with wearing piercing in their bodies is a sin or not. Since into the Ancient Testament, we read GOD forbidding His peaople (Israël) to use it. Leviticus 19:20 and Jeremiah 16:6 and Deuteronomy 14:1.

They are from the world and Romans 12:1-2 forbides us to follow their way. So, what is the position for Christians?

Personnaly, I approve of the GOD's direction in the Ancient Testament for, Jesus Christ never changed (Hebrew 13:8).

Shalom !!!

The spread of the 'gospel' in the days of the Early Church rested upon the shoulders of the Apostles at the first. 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel etc"

Mat 16:15. Mat 26:13. Luke 20: 1.

The gospel in that day was the answer to all the longings of the human heart..........The gospel is still the answer to all the longings of the heart today.....

In Acts 19:2. Paul asked the question...........Religeon is not enough....you must meet Jesus. People should not rest until they have had such encounter

All else will fall away.......when you 'really' meet Jesus

Well said, Stephen. I had a change of heart on the way to get another tattoo; it was life-changing.

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

It really depends on the motives of the piercing, the type of tattoo. There are some Christians who have had bad tattoos from their past life covered with a less offensive one or had them removed. It is all vanity, everything we do is vanity, getting hair styled, or colored, the conditioner we choose, the perfume or cologne we wear, the color of clothing, our shoes...

If you are going to live by the law, you have to live by all of them....and we know where that will get you.

Just because someone looks silly with 5000 earrings and tattoos to me, does not make them a worthless or bad person. A little scary maybe...God knows the heart. I have seen so many young people 'prejudged' right out of turning to the Lord by self righteous busy bodies, that is much worse than a piercing or a tattoo, and it cannot be removed if they lose out because of it!!

Ms Veracity:

After all, I'm fairly sure you have your ears pierced, right? (And it wouldn't be unusual for pastors'/elders' wives to have rings or studs in their ear piercings, even 2 sets maybe.)

But it's the spirit of the thing. We need to concentrate on the inward and spiritual, and if we have the inward and spiritual emphasis right, then the outward should take care of itself.

No, I don't love the tatoos I have, but I only have two. I'm actually normal looking as far as this world goes. They are very discreet. I really always thought tattoos on a woman were sorta "tacky" and so the decision I'd made to get another one was for wittnessing purposes. But, then I had a change of heart, thank goodness.

I think they will be all washed off when I get to heaven, don't you?

My Dearest Beloved,

I agree with you to change, I mean to keep clean your body, the one GOD our father in heaven created as it must be, ok?

However, I do nto take for guilkty those who have tatoos on them but GOD created us with nothing on our bodie and we need to be models in all into the GOD's will. [HIGH-LIGHT]1 Corinthians 10:31[/HIGH-LIGHT].

Shalom!

I don't see why some Christians make such a big deal over Tattoos and piercings, I have both, does that make me any less of a Christian ? No.

You're exactly right - No, it does not. I also have tattoos (I took out my piercing recently b/c of a a surgery and just never put it back in), and I also don't feel as though it makes me any less of a Christian. As a matter of fact, at work (A Christian based not for profit hospital), I've met many people who lived their life by the word whom also had plenty of tattoos. None of these people ever thought that I was any less of a Christian for having mine.

So are you planning any more? (faith related design, etc.) or are you done being needled?

Take care.

In my mind there are plenty of things that I'd love to get tattooed, however, at this point, I have to put my son's needs before my own needs (or wants for that matter). And in this economical climate, there isn't much money to spare on non necessities. But, yes, in the future I'd love to get more. I will probably be very Alaska cliche and get the Ursa Major somewhere (most likely the top of my foot) and I've always wanted to get a phoenix being reborn out of his ashes. I've always thought the phoenix was such beautiful symbolism. There are plenty of other thoughts floating through my mind, however, I don't think I would get anything faith related. All of my tattoos remind me of a different time in my life, I don't think I need a tattoo to remind me of my relationship with Jesus.

I see; I guess that Alaska's tattoo and piercing parlors are feeling the effects of recession, too...

So though you'd love to get more tattoos later, maybe the piercing side of what parlors do is finished as far as you are concerned? (Actually I think former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has more that the 'standard' 1 hole each side...but that's another story...)

(You are right about your son's wellbeing as a top priority: keep praying!)

I agree with you dear friend.

All who follow Jesus have righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.......Such is unique and cannot be found apart from following Jesus....... and knowing Him.

Folks today are piercing....painting....and all the rest....and longing to fill the void in their life.......

I am bothered, continue to be bothered, by the picking and choosing amongst the laws in the Old Testament. Were they all abolished? Were some abolished and not others?

Some of the laws that appear 'odd' are based on common sense. Sew a new piece of linen together with a new piece of wool and see what happens when they get wet and then dry out.

Most of the dietary laws are based on protecting health. Pork and shellfish can kill if not prepared properly. Fowl that hold down their food with one foot are carrion eaters and often infected with dangerous bacteria.

The law against homosexuality was needed to protect a desert-dwelling tribe with a high infant mortality rate.

Resting one day in seven makes good sense, with or without a religious law to enforce it.

So if Jesus canceled the law, which part of the law did he cancel? How can we know? We hold up the Ten Commandments as still valid, but what of the other six hundred and three laws found in the Old Testament? Are they all invalid? Are some still to be obeyed?

How do we know which is which?
