Nicotine Addiction

I am going to give a few of my thoughts on the other issue here just because I can :) That is this health arguement christians use agianst smoking.

Health experts say that the following foods should be taken with caution as
they contain cancer-causing carcinogens (that same big "C" word that makes smoking such an evil health-wise to those who dont know what we are talking about):

Fatty meat and other high-fat foods
Saturated fats, commonly found in whole milk, red meat and dairy products,
palm and coconut oils.
Smoked and processed meat, eg. ham, sausages. Smoked food absorbs tars during
the burning process. In turn, tars contain cancer-causing carcinogens.
Barbecued and deep fried food because they contain chemicals called Polycyclic
Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) that increase cancer risk.
Salted food eg. salted vegetables, salted fish.

"It has long been known that cooked red meat contains cancer-causing
heterocyclic amines, which form as the meat is heated. But a surprising report from the National Cancer Institute shows that oven-broiled, pan-fried, or
grilled/barbecued chicken carries an even bigger load of these carcinogens
than does red meat. And the more you cook it, the worse it gets. A well-done
hamburger contains 33 ng/g* of the carcinogen PhIP, and a well-done grilled
steak has about 30 ng/g, but grilled chicken reached fully 480 ng/g
(Rothman, et al. Cancer Research Vol. 55, 1995: 4516-9). . . .

It is said the carcinogens in one piece of barbequed chicken are equal to smoking one whole pack of cigarettes, that would mean smoking (b-bquing) chicken is more 'evil' (as it pertains to health) than smoking tobacco. Then our fruits and vegetables are sprayed with dangerous chemicals in the many countries, and so few out of millions even blink about that 'evil' they are injesting.

Further, this is just a partial list of common HARMFUL DRUGS: (PRESCRIPTION,or OVER-THE-COUNTER) that are known to be a real or potential danger specifically to the liver (cant live without your liver) ...

Acetaminophen (Tylenol-do not take in
combination with alcohol-very hazardous)
Alcohol
Adrenocortical steroids
Amphetamines
Amoxicillin
Amyl Nitrate (severely toxic to immune system,
stress on liver and cardiovascular)
Anabolic steroids (may be capable of causing
liver tumors)
Antidepressants
Antidepressant tricyclics
Antithyroid drugs
Atenolol
Aspirin
Aspartame (deadly drug)
Barbiturates
Benzodiazepines
Birth Control Pills (oral contraceptives)
Caffeine (coffee)
Cigarettes
Cocaine
Contraceptives
Corticosteroids
Ibuprofen (Motrin)
Marijuana
Penicillins
Prescribed stress management medications (nerve pills)
Salicylates
Sleeping Pills
Sugar (highly addictive chemical)
Testosterone (may be capable of causing liver
tumors)

[Edited to add: "I believe the earth is full of medications (herbs as stated in Gen 1:29) that God made, and it is a very corrupt age when many of these have been demonized (wonder if satan had something to do with that lie?) while man made drugs have been substituted which have horrible side effects" - taken from http://www.blessedquietness.com/journal/theworld/marijuana.htm
- You may want to read this authors message - I dont share all his views, and you likely wont either, but its thought provoking, which is full intent of this post, so please nobody holler at Chad that i`m over here in the health thread promoting drug use]

Drugs drugs drugs, which are good which are bad?
Christians swallow the above man made drugs by the handfuls, quite confident they know the list of which drugs are bad...tobacco, weed, and all those nasty street drugs. Yup, everybody knows that!
So lets sit back and stuff our faces with that yummy barbequed chicken, (why not even make it more toxic and deep fry it the southern way) and top it off with a nice sugary treat, and lets not forget the
soda pop. Now lets pop a pill or too (but only the good drugs of course) to counteract the effects of the chemicals now flowing deliciously thru our blood streams, and lay back in our easy chairs, and launch a lecture at the nearest smoker, about how hes not glorifying God with his body, and hes a big bad
sinner in need of deliverance.

Now I could toss a non-contexual verse in here for fun and say, "to him that
knows to do good, and does it not it is a sin" and any christian who reads
this will have to instantly and drastically change thier diet or else, but
they would only have to read the scripture as quoted above from 1Ti 4:3 to
refute that. It is our very nature to always defend our 'sacred cows'...christians will do it to the very letter of the law, not missing one dotting of the "i" or crossing of the "T" when it suits thier beliefs.
Funny how "nothing", really only means nothing, when we like the idea of nothing.
Heres an ode to the 'pick and choose the ones you like most' truths of christiandom.

Paul the apostle of Christ says in 1Co 4:6 "Brothers, I have applied all this
to Apollos and myself for your benefit, so that you may learn from us not to
go beyond what is written."

I`ve been told more things are a "sin" in my life than you can shake a stick
at, and my answer will always be, what does God say about this thing you call "sin"?

Ok I better understand what you are saying, and the apology is accepted. I have been taught that being addicted to anything is a sin, and for me, being addicted to anything interferes with my relationship with Jesus, so I consider it a sin... for me, since God knows I could be doing things better. It was not right of me to speak for everyone if I did do that... I dont feel like going through all of the posts, I'm running short on time. When I become addicted to something, i tend to become dependent on it and my mind is focused on it instead of God, if you were in my situation would you see that as a problem? I do, so i ask God to help me with it. I personally know many people with similar problems. And I am going to do my best not to contradict my psychology with Christ's teaching. That's why I'm going to attend a seminary school for counseling rather than a public university where views may conflict. Out of curiousity, what were your views when you thought smoking was a sin and why did you think that... and then please tell me what made you change your mind.

"So lets sit back and stuff our faces with that
yummy barbequed chicken, (why not even make it more toxic and deep fry it the
southern way) and top it off with a nice sugary treat, and lets not forget the
soda pop." Question: Is there a difference in moderation and addiction? If a person were doing this everyday, it would not be very healthy and sounds like you would be describing a glutton. If there were healthier options available it might be a test of self control, a fruit of the spirit. Would regular exercise lessen side effects from some of these things? Our body is a temple and is to be kept in shape. If you gorge one night on a special occasion in gladness with what God has given us, fantastic... But God wants us to exercise self control... hence moderation. Could smoking be done in moderation? For some yes and some no. It might be wise to pray about it and ask God if it's right for you or not.

And if I'm missing something, keep working with me because I want to know the truth on these topics too. Along the way I will have disagreements and you will too but this is a great place to learn about them. I want to get more knowlegdable with scripture too, maybe you have some tips on understanding the bible for me. I've been using gotquestions dot com a lot, what do you think of that website? and what it has to say about smoking and addiction and stuff like that?

I wish I could undo telling you about how I quit. I didnt expect it would turn into this.

Chinaski please do not feel bad in sharing your experiance. I for one loved seeing it because it reminded me of when I quit ( I told the story)... So dont feel bad :)

Vince your hunger for understanding I fully see and thats a very good thing. Everyday it seems I need/ have to learn something different. Knowing the mod team like I do we are all more than willing to help and instruct and show you scripture.

Oh and Coconut whewwho sister.... I just love your writing.... thought provoking..... it shows how we quickly paint our selves in a corner. (legalism) Oh and I have had that shaking stick pointed at me a few times too...:omg:

Bobby, it is as Paul said in 2Co 5:13 "So if we were crazy, it was for God; if we are sane, it is for you." (good letter to read on the subject at hand btw)

I am going to try to get around to answering the questions you had for me sometime today Vince, it may look like i`m here because I dont always sign off, but in actuality it can take me all morning just to finish one post (between being busy and my thinkin problem lol)

I hope these responses (written amidst a host of distractions) will make sence...

"I have been taught that being addicted to anything is a sin "
Attachment to ANYTHING causes (fear of loss or obsession for material things_ and yes its causes us to fall short(sin) because we actually believe we HAVE to do something (slavery)... this kind of hopeless feeling brings shame upon our image, and then guilt, fear and then anger... all of which produce unpositive behavior) = THE CURE is this: ALWAYS believe that you are FREE from the law of sin(fallin short) and death(negative matter), that you have FAITH to do ANYTHING... and then you will no longer view your self-image as weak and feeble and in bondage to material things!(lust of world),

"and for me, being addicted to anything interferes with my relationship with Jesus"
Since Jesus spirit was free ex. drinking wine without guilt or rebellion... unlike Pharisees who instituted many laws to make man feel shame if he didn't WORK!, his view of sin is right ( sin- unable to perform with faith) I can do all things. ex. kick any habit.

"God knows I could be doing things better"
We always could and do through applying knowledge).

"When I become addicted to something, i tend to become dependent on it and my mind is focused on it instead of God, if you were in my situation would you see that as a problem? I do, so i ask God to help me with it".
GOD helps us when we express faith and declare "all things are possible"(ex. quitting or not... but still believing) so i only smoke cause i want... NOT cause i HAVE to (this is slavery to the lust (strong attachment) to flesh. This kind of attitude would relinquish the idea that you smoke because some uncontrollable force FORCES you to do it... this is NOT true since many people by FAITH have quit smoking.... even those who don't listen to Truth.

"Is there a difference in moderation and addiction?"
One can moderately perform any action.... but is it done because he wants or because he feels strong serious attachment?(strong desire(lust))? Addiction is only an issue if one BELIEVES he CANNOT control what he does... someone who smokes moderatly may still think this way... but out of fear of losing control only does it occasionally. However, if someone MODERATELY (to be determined by him) performs any action with FAITH then his "conscience" is not slaved to obssessiveness... it is pure because it has relinquished the past and future only to ENJOY his natural desire of spirit... all things are lawful... but only for the man who believes... this is because man only feels good if he does things of his OWN WILL.

"If a person were doing this everyday, it would not be very healthy"
Health is another thing to consider... if you feel GUILTY or SHAMEFUL about not being healthy... or ANYTHING for that matter... your "conscience" cannot experience LOVE JOY AND PEACE for it is bound by a law you CREATED in your own CONSCIENCE... this manifests itself as a less than perfect man... because of lack of FAITH in God.)

"and sounds like you would be describing a glutton"
Ossesiveness to food... also deep attachment to fleshly desire which leads to anguish if one feels they are enslaved and NOT FREE). Feeling NOT FREE is the total opposite of feeling as though you are a SLAVE to desire... and you CANNOT have FAITH to overcome when you feel trapped, and enslaved to law(any boundary which the MIND has created) - NOTE: I speak of every INDIVIDUAL moment, because this is how man REACTS to his present existence: what he BELIEVES each MOMENT is how he PERFORMS... either with effortless ease and faith in the image of GOD, or with doubt... fear of loss... anguish... and eventually depression (a feeling that one CANNOT overcome their obstacle of doubt... the worst state there is.(real bondage).

" If there were healthier options available it might be a test of self control, a fruit of the spirit."
There are always healthier opions available..(in our country anyways) but should we always eat the BEST foods or ingest the BEST of everything... no we dont HAVE TO ... but we CAN if we have a pure conscience and perform these things with JOYFULNESS and THANKSGIVING.... even if we dont always choose the best options... there are many things we COULD do... but the man that thinks he SHOULD or MUST or HAS to has created LAW. IT is law that killeth the spirit(conscience) because it disallows our minds from doing what we DESIRE: natural, unharmful...and PERFECT desires that GOD gave us from birth.(ex. loving, happiness... etc)

"Would regular exercise lessen side effects from some of these things? Our body is a temple and is to be kept in shape If you gorge one night on a special occasion in gladness with what God has given us, fantastic... But God wants us to exercise self control... hence moderation"
The man who cannot control himself... has not developed FAITH enough to perform in SPIRIT: (NATURAL LAW that shows us what we possess internally and secondly, LEADS us to perform LOVINGLY JOYFULLY FREELY ).

"Could smoking be done in moderation?"
Yes, but not for the man who believes he cant. The image of GOD will only believe GOD's ultimate truth that we are FREE to perform in spirit, following our HEART.... ONLY if one is willing to ACCEPT that NOTHING man touches, tastes, or sees... is sinful (less than perfect)... BEING PERFECT is BEING NATURAL... and not striving to discover what GOD has already given... PEACE and JOY to LOVE the blessings of the earth ... and DISCOVER for himself that ALL THINGS ARE FREE.(except those who dont THINK they are) ----. Why should we PRAY to GOD for an ANSWER the SPIRIT already has given us?...( that its natural to desire things that do not destroy (non-loving) and that we are INDEED FREE) .

I will follow this up with scripture ... (Gods Word being the sole authority, not mine, or gotquestions.org ;) (tho thats a great website)

The Bible, like any other book must be read in context, (using the same five "w`s" rule that applies to all literature) I cant stress that enough, because statements taken out of context are the reason for so much confusion about what the authors are saying, and makes it look like they are contradicting each other all over the place.

I`ve tried to pull a few more scriptures together to futher explain my responses...

Gal 5:19 Now the works ( work is only done in striving.. this is opposite of Spirit(I am) and faith because it is serious... attached.. and not carefree "be careful for nothing"... if people did not care they would not work, rather perform with effortless ease (pure spirit impulsion/ inspiration) of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity(an impure conscience, shaming), promiscuity, idolatry(bowing b4 objects(matter and not spirit), witchcraft(harnessing dark lie power), hatred, rivalry(rioting of anger), jealously(attachment to flesh or world), outbursts of anger(slave to emotion of conflict), quarrels(attachment to argument), conflicts(fighting the love spirit), factions(clicks' that intimidate... lust for ungained power), envy(attached to someone elses temporal property so that you wish theyd lose their blessings), murder(hate so strong you destroy the body), drunkenness (stupor, uncontrollable, attachment to being "out of your mind"), rioting, and things like that. I am telling you now, as I have told you in the past, that people who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (LOVE, JOY, PEACE)

These people are ruled by their wild obsessive, serious, careful, and strong desire for things that will "fade with the grass" (temporary material) They are addicted to an Illusion... (A LIE THAT HARM WILL GET THEM IF THEY DONT BECOME SERIOUS AND BELIEVE "EVIL"(a dark lie and punishment) will overtake them... THEY HAVE NOT FAITH in these moments. Why is there War and Fighting (both WITHIN(conscience/flesh's thoughts) and WITHOUT(world))?? James says why...

Jam 4:1 What is the cause of wars and fighting among you? is it not in your desires which are at war (these desires he tells is not good... its desire for greed, gain, power, and not faithful desires of the spirit which choose to love based on no earthly gain) in your bodies?

Jam 4:2 You are burning with desire, and have not your desire, so you put men to death; you are full of envy, and you are not able to get your desire ( attachment to desire (or lust of flesh and world and pride) causes man to fight because he is ANGRY that he has no FAITH to be at PEACE with contentment... and have things by FAITH not by FORCE... man cannot force the will of the spirit(because it is carefree and effortless... and does NOT FIGHT... its natural as the TREES that do grow and the NATURE of our existence surrounding us), so you are fighting and making war; you have not your desire, because you do not make request for it (By having faith to get all things! and goodness!).

Jam 4:3 You make your request but you do not get it, because your request has been wrongly made, desiring the thing only so that you may make use of it for your pleasure.

Jam 4:4 O you who are false to God, do you not see that the friends of this world(an accomplice to an illusion which shall pass... these people are stuck in the past... and worried about the future because they have made the temporal world a close friend... when in all reality... it dies all the time... and so do the man made laws with it. However SPIRIT lives FOREVER inside the children of God, and his seed, and attachment to this BELIEF is the SPIRIT's way of leading us to all good things and frees us from fear of FAILURE and not being GREAT and GLORIOUS and BEAUTIFUL... just as NATURE does so perfectly (with ease... and not struggle) are not God's friends? Every man desiring to be a friend of this world makes himself a hater of God (Because he desires things which he cannot possess eternally... and this brings evil in his heart... anger, frustration, war, etc.... BUT GOD... is not working... the SPIRIT is like the wind that blows where the DESIRE to blow is.... if we ever resist this EASE of SPIRIT and FAITH we become HATEFUL... and against the NATURAL LAW OF GOD--- SPIRIT (the ever flowing ebb of pure conscience: free from guilt, shame, doubt, anguish... its FREE TO DECIDE, and FREE TO LOVE.

Jam 4:5 Or does it seem to you that it is for nothing that the holy Writings say, The spirit which God put into our hearts has a strong desire for us?

Reading a little further...But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against (about) such things (Man did not make these laws... the spirit created them... because they are natural and not forced (fought after)....(walk in the spirit you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh) if one has faith to recieve them.. and recieving is as simple as surrender to the heart's pure desire given by God - attempting to live in the peaceful, blissful state of just being - GOD's nature - I AM. and this is peace. just being. not being full of care.). Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. JUST AS JESUS DID, when he relinquished man made laws and followed Spirit fully!! This kind of power is true power... because when ALL MATTER IS GONE... SPIRIT still lives... and the man who can accept this... will only see Spirit law as his GUIDE. So be it.

In reading the above verse in context with the verse I gave you from Gal 5:19, you can see what the works of the flesh are that the author is saying must be crucified (PUT TO DEATH, BY following Spirit). Obviously this is not telling us the flesh wont desire anything but Christ. That could not be, for then those belonging to Christ would never even thirst for a drink of water, let alone have any other fleshly desires (LIFE IS A GIFT NOT A PUNISHMENT... although those who think it is a punishment... go about to punish it back... But the Spirit DOES NOT perform this way)

1Th 4:3 For it is God's will that you be sanctified: You must abstain from sexual immorality; each of you must know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not with passion and lust like the gentiles who do not know God; and you must never take advantage of or exploit a brother in this regard.(unloving) For the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as we already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to impurity but to holiness.

1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's

Jam 4:5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

Can you see how these verses tie in with Galations 5:19? Since scripture clearly tells us holiness has nothing to do with what we put in our bodies, or the washing or preserving of it as the scripture says, the passions and lusts must be these same works of the flesh in Gal 5:19 we already read about.

Heb 9:9 This is an illustration of the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered could not make the conscience of the worshiper perfect, since they deal only with food, drink, and various washings, which are required for the body until the time when things would be set right.

Col 2:20 If you have died with Christ to the basic principles of the world, why are you submitting to its decrees as though you still lived in the world? "Don't handle this! Don't taste or touch that!" All of these things will be destroyed through use because they are based on human commands and teachings. These things have the appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion, humility, and harsh treatment of the body, but they have no value against self-indulgence.

In other words, I might not smoke or drink, or touch certain foods, or I may exercise religiously, or I may watch my diet religiously...making sure this "temple" is fit as a fiddle, it does nothing for me spiritually...except to make me "look" more spiritual.

Pauls says: " though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day." Again, Gal 5:9 tells us what God doesnt want to find in this, "temple", "body", or "inward man." I can only conclude then, that addiction is nothing, a huge problem for the flesh perhaps, but having nothing to do with the Spirit. To me that is like saying the man or woman who suffers from say, depression has a spiritual problem.

As I understand it, sin is unbelief. Read everything Jesus said and did, and you wont find him walking around saying "you are a sinner"...but he always looked for faith. Of all the people who come to him for help, he sent most away without so much of a word more than "your faith has made you whole." ( Strange how Jesus looks for faith in mens heart , and we look for sin.)

A sin is committed if a person believes a certain truth, then doubts that truth and acts on his doubt.
If a person's faith allows him to act, and he does that act in faith, he will be happy.
If a person's faith allows him to act, yet he condemns himself with guilt, doubt, punishment or fear on the act, he will be unhappy. If it is not of faith, it is a sin.

Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

I know I am a great sinner, every day I have to ask for Gods grace, (unmerited favor) and forgiveness because my flesh prevents me from fully believing what the Spirit expressly says. I let myself worry, I let myself doubt...(flesh warring agianst the spirit)

I think our constant need for grace is why Paul admonished us in Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith...I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: ...trust in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 1Ti 6:11-17

that's an interesting post. thanks for taking the time out to write that and future posts. Returning back to gotquestions, what can you say about their belief?
I recommend this site to my friends and family and even strangers I encounter because I learned a lot from it... however, if smoking is not a sin, and they say it is, then am I falsely being taught? I use this website because I don't understand scripture entirely too well and I have a hard time finding a lot of things in the bible that I may be interested... for example end times, or war with Israel, or any other random thing. So I ask, what do you have to say about this answer, and do you think i should keep recommending this site to people?

Question: "What is the Christian view of smoking? Is smoking a sin?"

Answer: The Bible never directly mentions smoking. There are a couple of principles, however, that definitely apply to smoking. First, the Bible commands us to not allow our bodies to become "mastered" by anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12 declares, "Everything is permissible for me" - but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me" - but I will not be mastered by anything." Smoking is undeniably strongly addictive. Later in the same passage we are told, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Smoking is undeniably very bad for your health. Smoking has been proven to damage the lungs, and often the heart.

Can smoking be considered "beneficial" (1 Corinthians 6:12)? Can it be said that smoking is truly "honoring God with your body" (1 Corinthians 6:20)? Can a person honestly smoke "to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31)? We believe that the answer to these three question is a resounding "no." As a result, we believe that smoking is a sin, and therefore should not be practiced by followers of Jesus Christ.

Some argue against this view by pointing to the fact that many people eat unhealthy foods, which can be just as addicting and just as bad for the body. As an example, many people are so helplessly addicted to caffeine that they cannot function without their first cup of coffee in the morning. While this is true, how does that make smoking right? It is our contention that Christians should avoid gluttony and excessively unhealthy eating. Yes, Christians are often hypocritical by condemning one sin and allowing another...but again, how does this make smoking honoring to God?

Another argument against this view of smoking is the fact that many godly men have been smokers, such as the famous British preacher C.H. Spurgeon. Again, we do not believe this argument holds any weight. We believe Spurgeon was wrong for smoking. Was he otherwise a godly man and fantastic teacher of God's Word? Absolutely! Does that make all of his actions and habits honoring to God? No.

In stating that smoking is a sin, we are not stating that all smokers are unsaved. There are many true believers in Jesus Christ who smoke. Smoking does not prevent a person from being saved. Nor does it cause a person to lose salvation. Smoking is no less forgivable than any other sin, whether for a person becoming a Christian, or a Christian confessing his/her sin to God (1 John 1:9). At the same time, we firmly believe that smoking is a sin that should be forsaken, and with God’s help, overcome.

You are surely going to be the death of a coconut vince, namely me, LOL kidding!
( Chad hosts that website I think)

Seriously, i`ve been to that website many times myself and probably agree on the most part with the teachings found there, and theres no reason to quit using it because of conflicting views over a few issues. Thats likely to happen no matter what website you were using, or what teacher you may be listening to.

Put your complete trust in God, and His Word, let His Spirit be your guide, and all others merely commentators in your quest for truth :)

Dear Melinda, You are not alone in this struggle. I just wanted to share something with you in hope that this might help you. About 3-4 monthis ago, I watched Jessie Duplantis preach a sermon so speciall that I layed down my cigarettes, after 36 yrs. of smoking, once and for all. The name of the CD is Encounter of the God Type. It is the most powerful sermon that I have ever heard. After praying for a very long time that Jesus would take these cigarettes out of my life, I finally laid them down for the love of the Lord. I don't want to say to much about the CD and what it's all about because then I would be ruining it for you but trust me sister, the CD is powerful and I believe you will also lay those cigs down. I will be praying for you. Love, YSIC Kat aka Whozangel

We can only ask for Gods help on this one. With His help, He got me off prescription drugs, I was on them for 7 years and totally addicted. I was so convinced, if I didn't take those tables, I wouldn't have a good nights sleep. (these tablets were for panic attacks).

Well God showed me different and I have slept very well since and my panic attacks have gone. But I do remember to thank Him now and again for helping and assisting me in beating that addiction.

I have two more addictions, diet coke and smoking. These last few days, smoking has been on my heart too, so with Gods help, I need to conquer this one next.

I hear you on smoking being on the heart.Im trying, praying desperately to quit and seemingly to no avail yet,I have utmost faith that my prayers will be answered, its just real hard not knowing how or when.I feel like a failure when I try my hardest and fail, and also feel that I didnt leave it in Gods hands. But I also feel funny on the days that I say just let the Lord handle it and not apply any effort.

The bad part of smoking is knowing that Im sinning willingly, addicted or otherwise is really no excuse.I just stay frustrated because I dont know what to do,stay calm or just go gung ho eveyday.Failure for me is more spiritually devastating for me because I feel like since I cant seem to quit then I really dont love and want to serve God,Leaves a person feeling empty and seemingly stripped of the Holy Spirit.

.Anybody else that feels like this dont let Satan fool you into thinking that God has given up on you,he will hit you with deception when you are at your weakest.may the Lord be with you on conquering you addictions.

I recognice myself in about every point you made here. You put to words exactly what I am going trough. I really needed to read this. Thank you.
God delivered me from this a few weeks ago and took away all my cravings. Due to me beeing generally stupid I managed to start smoking again however. Since then I have tried quit like 4-5 times and the starting over a few days later.
