Once truly saved, always truly saved

I think the poll is a bit flawed. God is the One who does the saving and Jesus said that out of those God has given Him, He will not lose ONE! So once God saves you, you are always saved.

However, many who claim to be believers and are not make the confusion that I think initiated this misunderstanding. There are those who espouse that it is 'faith' simply to mentally ascent that Jesus is Lord and then you can live how you please and even be an atheist and still get into heaven. These people are of course wrong! Those who do this will be among those that say "Lord, Lord..." and He will say depart form me I never knew you.

However, it's not 'what' you believe when you die, but WHOM you believe in and those who endure to the end will prove that they are not only saved, but those that God has preserved in salvation the whole time.

So, once saved always saved only when TRULY saved! (Which is why the Bible tells us to examine ourselves to make sure we are in the faith).

wow...so you are saying that we need to be constantly askingfor forgivenes? I mean i sin literally all day! so if someone was in a fight or partying or doing anything that the bible says is wrong and they die right there n the spot and they will go to hell? even if they were a christian....that is harsh.

If you are a a born again Christian, you are a new person, usually born again Christians do not sin as much as they used to before their rebirth. Whenever one of God's children sins, because of Jesus, we have and will always have a chance to repent and ask for forgiveness for our sins. Remember repent means to turn away, Jesus will surely forgive us and cleanse us form all unrighteousness. There is no such thing as a Christian dying on the spot right after sinning without first ever having a chance to repent, without first having the Holy Spirit bring it to our attention and our need for repentance and forgiveness. That wouldn't be grace and mercy from God. Jesus Christ talks about the lost sheep, a lost sheep by the way is not an non christian, otherwise Jesus Christ will call them a goat or a wolf or something like that, look at matthewMat 18:12 How think ye? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go unto the mountains, and seek that which goeth astray?
Mat 18:13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth over it more than over the ninety and nine which have not gone astray.

Christ is known as the shepard and his followers are known as his sheeps. Christ is the saviour and Christians are known as the saved. All Christians are sheeps, so lost sheep is the same as lost Christian. I hope I am able to show you that these two verses are talking about already saved Christians. Now look at verse 13, it says "IF" NOT "WHEN" Jesus finds that lost sheep. Many false teachers who believe in Eternal Security, or Once Saved Always Saved will tell you "when", trying to say that its a guarantee for a once saved christian to turn back to Christ. Thats a lie! Anyways back to my point, what I am trying to say, Jesus always tries to bring back his lost sheep, his disobedient children, because they are in danger of hell fire.
Now you ask how do someone knows they are saved, well, I know I am saved because I have accepted the Jesus as Lord and Saviour couple years ago and ever since then I have been following and listening to Him, and abiding in him with the help of the Holy Spirit, and whenever I sin, which is rarely(and should be for all Christians) the Holy Spirit brings it to my conscience and move me to repent and ask for forgiveness. You see I know to my heart that I love the Lord and want to please him, and because of that I know I will obey him and try not to sin, he will never let me die without ever having the chance to repent for all my sins and ask for forgiveness, but I have to make that ultimate choice. Non Christians do not have these privileges, we do, because we are under Grace! I have my security of salvation by walking in the Spirit, abiding in Jesus, I do not have my security in a doctrine(OSAS).

If a Christian constantly sins without repentance, and continues to grieve and disobey the Holy Spirit and refuse to repent for his sins....even though the Holy Spirit urges him to do so, then God will eventually give that Christian up to his or her reprobate mind. And when that Christian dies and never turned back to God, he or she will not enter heaven but hell.
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 because that which is known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse:
Rom 1:21 because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves:
Rom 1:25 for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another, men with men working unseemliness, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was due.
Rom 1:28 And even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; Rom 1:29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30 backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that they that practise such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with them that practise them.
Rom 2:1 Wherefore thou art without excuse, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judges another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest dost practise the same things.
Rom 2:2 And we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against them that practise such things.
Rom 2:3 And reckonest thou this, O man, who judgest them that practise such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Rom 2:5 but after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up for thyself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Rom 2:6 who will render to every man according to his works:
Rom 2:7 to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life:

Rom 2:8 but unto them that are factious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, shall be wrath and indignation, lets look at the wrath of God and what it says about the non Christians and the disobedient Christians
Joh 3:36 "The one believing [or, trusting] in the Son has eternal life, but the one refusing to believe the Son will not see {the} life, _but_ the wrath of God ABIDES on him." lets see, every human being are born sinners, therefore we were all born with the wrath of God upon us, and if we do not accept Jesus we will not have everlasting life, we will have eternal punishment. wrath of God = eternal punishment. So when a Christian gets saved, the wrath of God is removed from them and if they are not saved then the wrath of God REMAINS (abides) on them. so john 3:36 are talking about the saved and the unsaved.
Eph 5:6 Let no one be deceiving [or, misleading] you* with empty [fig., foolish] words, for because of these [things] the wrath of God is coming upon the sons [and daughters] of disobedience. This letter was written to Christians only, not only that, since every Christians had once had the wrath of God removed form them, then the wrath of God will need to COME UPON then if they are being disobedient to God! Notice the bible didn't use "abide or remain" but used "comes upon". The wrath of God cannot come upon a non christian because it is already there. So let me explain it again, any Christian who live in disobedience to the Lord, they are in danger of Hell fire, or the wrath of God!!!

Rom 2:9 tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek;
Rom 2:10 but glory and honor and peace to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek:

Please read your bible!!!!

Question: "Once saved always saved?"

Answer: Once a person is saved are they always saved? When people come to know Christ as their Savior, they are brought into a relationship with God that guarantees their salvation as eternally secure. Numerous passages of Scripture declare this fact. (a) Romans 8:30 declares, "And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified." This verse tells us that from the moment God chooses us, it is as if we are glorified in His presence in heaven. There is nothing that can prevent a believer from one day being glorified because God has already purposed it in heaven. Once a person is justified, his salvation is guaranteed - he is as secure as if he is already glorified in heaven.

(b) Paul asks two crucial questions in Romans 8:33-34 "Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died more than that, who was raised to life - is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." Who will bring a charge against God's elect? No one will, because Christ is our advocate. Who will condemn us? No one will, because Christ, the One who died for us, is the one who condemns. We have both the advocate and judge as our Savior.

(c) Believers are born again (regenerated) when they believe (John 3:3; Titus 3:5). For a Christian to lose his salvation, he would have to be un-regenerated. The Bible gives no evidence that the new birth can be taken away. (d) The Holy Spirit indwells all believers (John 14:17; Romans 8:9) and baptizes all believers into the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). For a believer to become unsaved, he would have to be "un-indwelt" and detached from the Body of Christ.

(e) John 3:15 states that whoever believes in Jesus Christ will "have eternal life." If you believe in Christ today and have eternal life, but lose it tomorrow, then it was never "eternal" at all. Hence if you lose your salvation, the promises of eternal life in the Bible would be in error. (f) For the most conclusive argument, I think Scripture says it best itself, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39). Remember the same God who saved you is the same God who will keep you. Once we are saved we are always saved. Our salvation is most definitely eternally secure!

Tricky question.

Hello Folks,

Gosh this a really tricky question to answer. I've waxed hot and cold on this one for years. I first believed that a Christian could lose their salvation if they didn't maintain a certain standard before God. Then I started hearing people say there's no way a Christian can lose his salvation, and I suppose if they have faith towards God that is a reasonable conclusion.

Then I heard a Christian could walk away from God and his salvation never to return to it, I think this view possibly has some credence. There does seem to be a point of no return from man's side of things. That is were Jesus, God the Father, eternal life, Heaven, hell the devil the whole thing becomes entirely meaningless to them and they have no interest whatsoever. Once they have reached this state it is impossible for them to return to God, they are beyond helping themselves.

In other words, someone in this state needs someone moved by the mercy of God in intersession, a real prayer warrior to stand in the gap and pray for them. Other wise they might be lost for all eternity.

PS I post this as my own personal theory, not something set in stone.

Blessings,
Tonyb

Yes I agree with you there tonyb. One can walk away, thats where the fight comes in daily. We are in a battle everyday, some people out there cannot handle it. But what I think and this is only me speaking now, during the tribulation period, I think God will give people a second chance.

Even some of Jesus' disciples walked away, as they found it too hard.

Joh 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
Joh 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
Joh 6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Joh 6:64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
Joh 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
Joh 6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
Joh 6:67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?

We need to walk with God daily. Temptation will always be there, its how we handle it, deal with and overcome it. Jesus struggled with it too, I was in a scripture last week, which made me realise that the the devil tempted Jesus, more than once.

Luk 4:13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

This is why he told us to stay in prayer a lot and not to sleep.

Luk 13:22 And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
Luk 13:23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
Luk 13:24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Luk 13:25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
Luk 13:26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
Luk 13:27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
Luk 13:28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
Luk 13:29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
Luk 13:30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

I believe that it depends on what you believe when you die. If you're an atheist and then believe on Jesus an hour before you die then yes I would say you are on you way to heaven but if you die believing there is no God well....you will go to the other place. There are many verses that have already been qouted so far like the ones Sade used in her post.

Sin is sin, there is no worse sin because all of it branches from the root Sin which is disobedience. If you are sinning than that means you are diobeying God because he told you not to do that.
God knows your heart when you die, he knows where you stand with him. He will know whether you are worthy enough to go to Heaven. You can sin and you can backslide. So for those of you that say once saved always saved, does that mean someone could go out and get saved then they can do whatever they want? God gives the choice to follow him. If you sin, repent and move on. If you keep doing the same thing over and over again then you are going against God's will. You have to follow the path God has set out. In the end God will choose who is worthy enough to enter the Gates of Heaven and who is not.

By grace...

Hi Faithwalker,

Nobody is worthy, salvation is by grace through faith and that is not of ourselves it is a gift of God. See Ephesians 2:8-9. But not only is the initial act of salvation, when someone is born again by grace through faith, all of the Christian life thereafter is by grace through faith. In effect we can have no works of our own at all.
In Isaiah 64: 6 it says, All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; in other words they stink.

There's a beautiful song that speaks of a Christian who tried to please God by their own self effort and ended up with nothing of there own basically, at least nothing of worth. It goes:

God of Grace, I turn my face
To you, I cannot hide;
My nakedness, my shame my guilt'
Are all before your eyes.

Strivings and all anguished dreams
In rags lay at my feet,
And only grace provides the way
For me to stand complete.

And your grace clothes me in
righteousness.
And your mercy covers me in love.
Your life adorns and beautifies,
I stand complete in You.

Hi everyone,

i seem to be getting diferent replies to this questions...or i am just not understanding which is VERY likely too! lol

Once you are saved you will go to heaven. is there anything that can change that? take the poll please!

thanks!
Krista

Once saved always saved..........Absolutely correct.......Providing you stay saved and following Jesus.

I once became exasperated with my life and failers and sincerely asked the Lord if He could just throw the book of my life away, and if we could start all over again...I got an immediate reply..."I cannot do that, for your salvation is in it, and I take you for better or worse...that's how much I really love you." humbled and alive, I felt soooooo loved :)

Once saved..... Saved for eternity.....
You have stepped into eternity the moment you gave your life to Jesus. It is an awesome mystery.

You might find yourself doing all sorts of nasty things. It won't take away your salvation. But it will temporarily take away the JOY of salvation.

Salvation is permanent..... if one has really met with the Savior.

But the joy of your salvation.... the key is in your hand. Follow Him. Take His yoke upon you. Let Christ live. Die to sin... live in the Spirit.

It does not matter how many times you backslide.... all it takes is a genuine heart of repentance. God is not bluffed by false pretense. He stares you in your face. He can see through you.
I encourage all those who read this. Keep short accounts with God. Settle your mistakes as early as possible. The devil might try to make you doubt your love for God. But nobody can snatch you from God's hand.... once you are in Jesus.

God bless you all.

We are called to work out our salvation daily.

Passage Philippians 2:12: NIV

Shining as Stars

12Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,

God bless  :rainbow: :rose:

Okay, I hear that angle, but let's flip it a bit. Nicolek, once you receive salvation, you have entered a spiritual relationship with Christ, a love relationship. Matt. 22:37 Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. As in a natural relationship, yes there are ups & downs that come, however this is relationshipis parallel in the fact that you want to please/satisfy the one you love. In prayer, ask the Lord to show you His love for you. God will open up & reveal Himself to you, if you are willing to come to Him(James 4:8) God knows exactly where you are, what you understand, & how you feel. He has given you a measure of faith to believe Him with(Rom. 12:3), & through faith you were saved(Eph.2:8). Put your effort into prayer(Luke 18:1), fasting(Isa.58) & Study of God's Word(2Tim 2:15, Prov.15:28) & God will lead you into a deeper love, & a stronger faith. We don't serve God in fear; we serve Him in love, & honor. I agree with some of the viewpoints previously stated, but I felt the leading of the Lord to bring out the fact that this walk, is a walk of love. I pray this has helped a little.

I think once you accept Christ you are saved! BUT...if throughout your life, you turn away from Jesus and God, reject Him...and believe and idolize other things...then you are no longer saved.

I think the key to salvation is believing that Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. If you do not believe that, then you are not saved because the only way to the Father is through Christ Jesus.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

Yes when we accept Christ we are saved

Romans 8:1-2
1.Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,2.because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 10:9-10
9.That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10.For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that
you confess and are saved.

.....................BUT...................

But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. Romans 6:22

We are called to be holy..

Colossians 3: 5,8-10
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry

8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator

James 2:14-17
Faith and Deeds
What good is it if a person claims to have faith but performs no deeds? Can such faith save him?Suppose someone is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Yes we are saved by our faith but the scripture says faith without deeds is dead.
We are saved instantly when we confess him as our Lord and savior, but holiness ,we have to work on daily.

If we follow this, we wouldn't have to worry about going to hell, that's my thought.

I think that God has a list of people who are going to be saved in the end. That is what I think on this topic hope it helps

I believe if you truely get saved by God, you will always be saved. But I do believe there are some people that think they are saved when they are really not. The question isnt once saved always saved, its "if" saved always saved. When God does something, I believe it is forever. It is not us who save ourself but him. Praise God.

I agree with Cody2 and I like the way he said it. Many in that day will say, "Lord, Lord,"

And He will answer, "I never knew you."

This is a response used by many OSAS when trying to support their doctrine. But it too is not supported well by scripture. In the end many will turn away from God. Paul addressed many times those who are part of the Church(ekklesia) and warned them of deception and being drawn away. The writer of Hebrews and the Apostle John also addressed the believers with the same warning. There is no such thing as uncondition salvation according to the scriptures, no matter how much we would like it to be, it just isn't.

Here is a prime example of my thought concerning the Kingdom of God, you want to know what God says about salvation or anything else for that matter, read the whole book. Don't just read the scriptures you find in the concordance but rather pray and ask the HolySpirit to reveal the truth concerning the subject and He will open up your understanding and reveal scriptures to you. Many of the parables that Jesus taught reveal the truth concerning enternity, but without the HolySpirit's teaching we are left to our own understanding which is found lacking.
