I have noticed every election year, there seems to be a major outcry in the death of a black man.

2020 - George Floyd
2016 - Freddie Gray
2012 - Trayvon Martin, Rodney King.

It is somewhat suspicious that the US media only calls these out on an election year.
It is also somewhat suspicious that the media rarely calls out cops who are beaten and shot.

Why do you say refund the police is crazy? Redirecting funds towards social services, education, health seems to fall well short of lunacy

In the last two states I have lived in...
We now sell Lotto, Powerball, and MegaMillions, lottery tickets...
We now have opened gambling casinos.
We now sell legalized marijuana.
We now have a number of highways with (HOV) high occupancy vehicle lanes, we charge to drive in these under most circumstances.
We now have toll roads and toll bridges for highways that were free for years.
We have raised property taxes (almost doubled in the last 10 years)...

I am told these things brought over 2.2 billion dollars in revenue to the this state alone.

All the taxes and proceeds from this money was going to go to social services, education, and roads.
The schools are further in debt than ever.. (despite a lot more people doing home schooling)
The roads are in just as bad a shape as they always were (despite a lot less people driving)
...and we have more people than ever living out on the streets (homeless)

The only thing that seems to change is the politicians keep voting themselves raises. In the meantime..

As far as social services... a good deal of this money goes to placed like planned parenthood (abortion clinics).
We are also giving WIC cards out now for free marijuana. (to help those who can't afford it).
Some of this is pretty close to lunacy.

That money doesn't have to be spent badly though does it? Community nurses, parenting classes, job skills training, youth clubs, entrepreneurship. Conflict resolution, community building, drugs awareness, peace building, citizenship participation, healthy living classes, diversity awareness - those could all have a positive impact. It needs imagination and the commitment to action.

None of those appears to me to be worse than the way George Floyd was murdered.

I use many news sources, and I keep my critical faculties with all of them.
