Running!

thank u evry1 for your help! im back running, with no sores on feet (yay!), new running shoes, water in my system, and getting fitter evry day!! thank you evrybody for kindly offering your help, much appreciated :D:D

hello again everyone, um, im bak running, but i keep gettin stiches! plz help!

stitches r mainly cuz u have eaten/drunk something prior 2 doin the running... if u get a stitch while u r runnin, place ur hands on ur head, an start joggin.. it should remove the stitch...

thank you aimz, i no about the food, but i think where i went wrong was drinking, cus i drank a bottle of water b4 each run thnx :)

yea, 2 much water b4 running is bad... try takin little sips of fluid throughout the run... that might help a lil bit

Running is good fun. Although they always make me the representative long distance runner for my school, which can get annoying as I end up running loads of times in a month alone. All I can say is once you get in the habbit of running, keep that regular workout otherwise you won't get used to it. As for stiches, ignore them if you get them.

hi ruth thnx for ur reply, yeh runnings kool, but i think its more a matter of time now. it was rli easy in the holidays, but now in term time i hav no time rli, and hockey training and matches mean i tire meself out so i cant run wen i get bk from skool, so the only time i can run is the weekend, which is kinda awkward cus i hav work to do...i reckon my fitness is gud enuf atm and will get better towards the tour, as we do lots of fitness trainin in skool.
do u participate in team runs then? and i found sum help on stitches on the net so thnx for ur reply
woah that was a bit long sorry to bore u all!
Tim

What do you mean by a team run? My school has a sports team, and the school enters us into different competitions against other schools. I have no other choice but to participate, as once you are in the school team you cannot leave and they'll give you a hard time about it. Though I enjoy being in the school sports team, and I like running and playing stuff like netball and basketball's alright.

heya timmy...

thought i might change my response 2 ur "stitch question"...

origninally i sed dnt drink water cuz it'd cause a stitch... but now i change that 2... if u get a stitch, it is due to the LACK of water in ur muscles, an so u need the water or liquid gels to refuel ur resources... so yea.. i was wrong.. hope this helps...

How did you find all that out?

Ruth

it dusnt matter how u find it out ruth, the main thing is to drink sips of water through the day, and stop drinking at least 1 hour before the run, to get it all into your system, if u drink lots of water straight b4 running, u end up with a stitch, because they are caused by organs pulling on the diaphragm, so if u drink water b4, ur organs are heavier, so u get a stitch rli easily, or so ppl think on the internet, it seems reasonable, another thing is to hav a routine which u r used to, and find out wot works best for u, hope that helps

O.K, thanks you guys I didn't know all that. Do you know if it is the same with any type of drink, or does it only apply to water?

Ruth

it wud be the same for anything yes, including food as well, glad to help, after i got helped!

keep it kool

if you drink orange juice, soda, or any acidic drinks before you run it is posisble that you may get cramps..

however side stitches are caused i believe by muscle spasms in the diaphragm...
so therefore the best way to prevent these is to keep steady breathing while you're running, try not to "huff and puff" as they say.

also it may be because you are not getting enough oxygen..
pretty much you must drink alot of water to replenish your muscles, and make sure to take steady breaths while running.

hope that helped a little..

oh wait, i think somebody already answered this hahaha, oh well, i guess you can use my information too... :shade:

I'm an avid runner/jogger for a long time now. Always stretch for like 10 minutes before you run. Always do a warmup before you start to run (like a 5 minute walk to start). And always do a cool down after (like a 5 minute walk) and then stretch again for 10 minutes after. This will keep you from injuries and from being too stiff.

Keep on Running!

Love, Peace, & God bless,
Leana Jo

Well, spelling is important. It can make you look totally unschooled or schooled. It also can clarify your thoughts and help you to take the time to think through your ideas.

i have been running for just over 6months now and i am running between 10 and 15 miles in one go, i started running short distances of 2 miles about 4 times a week then slowly built on that once i could run 6 miles i varied my runs i would run on 6 miler a week and 2 shorter runs and one fast short run, this is for long distance running also a helpful excercise is what we call "phart LEGS" where you walk then sprint as fast as you can then walk etc, helps build overall speed.
